  1. Guy sounds like a winner beating up 61 year old security guards. What an intellectual!
  2. You want to take TT off the rankings, fine. I'll take Fresno State off the rankings, afterall they played powerhouses such as Weber State, New Mexico State, Utah State, Idaho, and San Jose State. You can say any numbers are skewed as about 90% of college football teams play a very weak early season schedule. Vince Young had the best pass efficiency in college football, and actually put up better passing numbers than Jay Cutler. He also put up 42 less rushing yards for his career than Reggie Bush. Is he a polished passing QB? Hardly. But he's shown the ability to check down receivers and even find his tight end. He's also shown a wonderful ability to take what the defense gives him. When USC backed off of the line to stop the pass, he beat them with his feet, when they stacked the line, he found receivers. My favorite attribute of his besides his leadership and charisma, is his ability at 6'5 235 pounds to make defenders miss. That will help him with his health, as he doesn't take many full body shots because he's quick enough to adjust right before the hit.
  3. Texas schedule: OSU 5th ranked D, Kansas was 11th in the nation in defense, Oklahoma 13th, TT 30th, Colorado 41st, Missouri 50th, Baylor 63rd. USC schedule: Arkansas 34th, Fresno State 38th, Oregon 44th, Cal 46th, ND 75th. USC also faced 7 defenses ranked 86th or worse. Granted, USC probably helped skew those numbers, but its still pretty clear which team faced the better defenses all year long.
  4. Funny stuff, Rashad McCants 16 points at the half, and doesn't play a single minute in the 3rd. Minny up 12 at the half, and now barely up 3 after 3.
  5. Awesome, what a great mentor for Rashad McCants in Ricky Davis... :banghead
  6. You are correct thedoctor... http://texastech.scout.com/3/recruiting-grades-code.html I just found that link about a week ago, I could have used that for the past 5 years.
  7. The Steelers aren't quite as enamored with Antwan as other fans seem to be. He's proven this year that he's not a #2 receiver in the NFL, he was much better as the 3rd option behind Hines and Plax. He's a solid punt returner, but nothing special. Doesn't take what the other special teams give him, always trying for more, even at the cost of field position for his team. He does well with the trick plays, but the Steelers will target someone like Reggie McNeal later on if Reggie struggles at the combines with his passes. McNeal, Brad Smith, or stompy Vick(yuck) will likely be possible targets for the 3rd, 4th, 5th round if they are available. With that said, I would like to keep Antwan around, and draft a big WR in the 1st two rounds to compliment Hines. But with the re-signing of Hines, Casey Hampton etc lately, I don't know how much cap room will be available.
  8. They obviously watched way too much of Christian Laettner ;-)
  9. Fun stuff, BC ends half on 26-6 run to take a 42-30 lead over UNC at the half. Went from up 9 to down 9 in less than 6 minutes, ah what fun freshmen can be.
  10. You are a Porsche 911! You have a classic style, but you're up-to-date with the latest technology. You're ambitious, competitive, and you love to win. Performance, precision, and prestige - you're one of the elite, and you know it.
  11. That's ridiculous that Texas Tech is within one game of being in 2nd place in the Big 12.
  12. No idea on Downs, but I would think Gonzaga would make alot of sense. He could help replace Adam Morrison, similar type player if he fully develops. In some terrible news, the Boston College basketball bus hit and killed a pedestrian today in Chapel Hill on their way to practice.
  13. Penn State is putting up a dominant class again this year. Pat Devlin 5 star QB switched his verbal from Miami to PSU yesterday, then PSU picked up a 4 star DT, and a 5 star OL today. Also, strong rumors that Vidal Hazelton, one of the top 5 players in the country, and current USC commit, is seriously thinking about switching to PSU as well. Amazing what a commit from Derrick Williams last year did for PSU, he made it cool again to play for PSU.
  14. Micah Downs leaving Kansas... http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/13700764.htm Dad says he's going "home". Wherever that may be. He's lived in Washington, Las Vegas, Missouri and a few more places. Kansas people were shocked with this transfer, even though he wasn't getting much P/T.
  15. Here is something interesting from the UCLA Bruins message boards. This story was posted on Bruin Nation: "The story has been going around today that ESPN the Magazine has "outed" former ESPN personality and recruiting guru Tom Lemming as a Notre Dame shill. The excerpt comes from an article on Rivals top 10 player and all-everything cornerback Myron Rolle, a highly regarded player who is also making a name as one of the most well spoken and articulate 5* recruits to ever come down the pike. And it reads as follows: "Tom Lemming is a huge Notre Dame guy," Myron says. "He kept saying to me, `You know they have a great coaching staff. You know Charlie Weis is Mr. NFL. You're an academic guy. That place is for you.' Then he killed Florida State. He said, `You're stupid if you go there.' Um, okay. Thanks." The article is raising eyebrows across the internet, which surprises me, because outing Tom Lemming as a Notre Dame shill is like outing me as a guy who likes cookies. Lorenzo Booker made exactly the same accusation (about Lemming, not me), but he didn't have a 4.0 GPA, and he was going to FSU and enough people were able to write it off as "typical loudmouth Seminole ... probably got @#%$ 'cause Lemming dropped him in the rankings.""
  16. LA Times NCAA is going to start releasing their RPI info that they use on putting teams into the tourney, starting February 2nd. Even though its most likely not much different than other RPI sites, atleast we will see what they are looking at as well.
  17. I'm just so upset that he won't be playing against UNC both times this year... Mike Jones is an enigma to me. He was a Mickey D's AA, and is athletic and can shoot the lights out. Yet he's never gotten p/t at Maryland. Everytime I see him in the game, he's bombing 3's from all over the court. I guess his defense must be atrocious, that or his attitude.
  18. This is far from a revelation or anything, but people in general take sports too seriously. I get as pissed as anyone during a loss, or a bad call, and wish bad things upon the referees. But 20 minutes after the game and I'm calm again and feel like an idiot for my actions while angry. People just take it to far, and don't let things go. I can't imagine ostricizing a student because of the jersey he's wearing, especially coming from a teacher. Blaming it on "Ethics" class is just BS. I saw a little kid wearing a JJ Redick jersey at a restaurant here in Lubbock, and I just shook my head, maybe I should have thrown some paper at him.
  19. I heard Marc Stein I believe it was, state that this year with Kobe and the Lakers is alot like Jordan's early years in the league, when he had the freedom to do what he pleased and averaged over 35 points a game because of the lack of talent on the Bulls squads. It's amazing the Lakers have the record they do, and its solely because of Kobe's shooting. Nobody can stop him, and Phil realizes that. What will be interesting to me now, is to see if teams start putting all their focus on Kobe, and if Kobe's assist numbers go up accordingly. That to me will tell me if he's on Jordan's level. Otherwise he will still score alot, but his shooting percentage will go down, as will the Lakers. I haven't seen Kobe's ability to make teammates better in his career yet, but this second half of the season should be the perfect oppurtunity for that part of his game to come out, if its there.
  20. I have to admit, I've been a Kobe hater a long, long time. But I have to finally give in tonight, he's the closest thing to Jordan that we will see for a long time. He's a crappy guy, but damn, he's unstoppable on the court. He makes ridiculous fadeaways look like a free throw. I feel much better now letting that out. Next thing you know, I might admit JJ Redick is a great college basketball player, NAH.
  21. Awesome stuff, Steelers in the Super Bowl, now Carolina needs to take care of business. Jerome going back home for his final game, what a possible ending.
  22. And rushing for 5 yards two consecutive plays is 10 yards. Either way its a first down, and there's not enough statistic's available to show how exactly each 4 yards is gained. Some players like Jerome Bettis get 3-5 yards every down, but isn't a threat to break off a 30 yard run. Different offenses go for different styles, some offenses are explosive and want the same style of back, that can break off a big gain at any time. Others like the Steelers like to constantly pound the ball and look for the back to get 4 yards everytime and eat the clock up. You can be successful with both styles, but Carnell can dirty his nose and get 3-4 yards when need be, he breaks tackles very well.
  23. I have to disagree. Carnell averaged atleast 3.7 ypc on every down this year, the 3.7 was on 1st down, which is still pretty nice. But here's some stats which make me think he will be very special. On his 21st carry and on in games, he averaged 6.86 ypc, and half his games played he carried over 21 times. It would have been more without the midseason injury which really hurt his numbers as well. In the 2nd half of games, he actually gets stronger and averaged 4.7 ypc, including the 4th quarter where he averages 5.6 ypc. He actually carried the ball better on the road as well, with a 4.2 ypc compared to 3.9 at home. He also played his best against his own division, with a 4.4 ypc compared to 3.8 outside of it. If you have back that plays well against your division, gets stronger as the game goes on, gets it done on the road where audibles can be tough, and can gain almost 1,200 yards his rookie campaign, then you have something pretty nice. You play him on artificial turf, and he's lights out. He doesn't exactly run behind a great OL either, with guys like Dan Buenning, Anthony Davis, John Wade, Sean Mahan, and Kenyatta Walker leading the way. Not to mention the passing game didn't help him out, with the 8th worst attack in the league. I fully expect him to have a healthy year next year and run for 1,400+ yards.
  24. Bobby has been great, he's keeping totally to himself. Pat has decided to put his own voice in the media here now, and it hasn't been going to well. People here are hoping that with Pat, they will get Bobby's basketball tactic's, and a younger guy that can actually recruit a little without having the temper legacy follow. But all we have seen so far is a whiny brat. Will be interesting to see if the program ever decides to go in a different direction later on if this keeps up.
