    Life as a New Parent

Thanks everyone! Truly appreciate it. We're in the waiting room right now. We're told it'll be an hour and a half to 2 hours. The hardest part so far was our baby didn't eat since 6am so he was really fuzzy half way through our 2.5 hr drive here. All that aside, after today we'll be waiting about 2-4 business days for his eye specialist to receive the report, study it, and then give us a call.

    Life as a New Parent

Update: Our son is now 5 months, 2 weeks old. His eye vision is not developing as his eye specialist expects it to. Tomorrow we are driving 2+ hours to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health so the MRI department can put our baby under anesthesia and do an MRI scan on his eyes and brain. I am a bit nervous but also optimistic. The past couple of weeks we have seen how our baby is able to track some objects that don’t make noise since his eye specialist thinks he’s only been tracking because of the sounds we make. Everyone, I am asking for prayers/good thoughts this way. I hope his eye specialist is wrong about this and that the MRI results show good results and perhaps he just needs glasses. This world, despite what we hear and see on the news and social media, is too beautiful for him not to see it with his own eyes.

    Job Thread

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 26, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) Good leadership recognizes it and rewards it, bad leadership just takes advantage of it. I've come to accept the notion that a big corporate environment (like the one I work in) can spend thousands on useless contractors and consultants but spend hardly enough on their employees.

    Job Thread

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) I'm looking pretty hard right now, I've been struggling with my leadership for a couple years but was hopeful I could transition elsewhere in IT under leaders who could develop me/offer leadership opportunities. It hasn't happened, and I just had a sit down with my supervisor where I asked for more responsibility/title as a team lead under him as someone else in IT got a similar title. It wouldn't require any direct reports and I said I didn't expect any raise for it, it would just be focused on giving me a more clear path on getting into leadership. Their answer was a blunt no (and my reviews/HR standing/9 box crap are all stellar). Pretty much I took it as a message of where my leadership actually views me. I feel like I'm on the same boat as you are right now. I'm the Lead Help Desk analyst for our support center but my supervisor is so busy with the Desktop team that he's given me all responsibilities for the support center (scheduling/staffing, reporting, supervising the staff, employee reviews, etc.) I go above and beyond with everything and I'm eager to always learn but man been in this spot for almost 2 years now. There hasn't been an official support center manager since the last one left 2 years ago and I've been holding my breath on that spot but I think I've overdone what I'm actually responsible for that management is content with how things are at the moment.

    The Pet Thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) How did it go with the vet? The vet gave me some hope. He said it could be lymph nodes but it could also be an abscess. He took a blood test and said it be a few days to get the results from lab and make a proper diagnosis. Another positive is my Schnauzer has not shown signs of fatigue, nor has he been vomiting or had diarrhea and has maintained the same weight for the past 2 months.

Has anyone had a dog whose lymph nodes have swollen steadily? I have a Schnauzer and he's about a year and a half. I have an appointment with the vet later this afternoon. Just reading and watching vids on this has made me a bit sick and not sure if anyone can give an enlightening story.

    Life as a New Parent

QUOTE (hi8is @ May 5, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) You no longer have a life. Congrats. In three years time, you will no longer remember what it was like to NOT have a child. And as you already know.... it's amazing... and maddening... and crazy... and beautiful. Ha. Thanks for reinforcing the having no life part. I've enjoyed it thus far. I think in about a month or so he'll start teething so that should be really fun.

    Life as a New Parent

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 3, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) My wife really wants the socialization aspect, and my cop cousin warned us off of home day care places (he gets lots of calls out to them for various issues). I think the couple of places we've checked out work out to about $6/hour. You can't beat that. The gf and I have been lucky so far that our employers have been flexible with our schedules. I work 6-2:30p and she works 4p-8p. It's worked out pretty well.

  12. Still too early to tell. Give it till the end of May to start labeling teams as sellers. I think most of us can admit we're surprised to be at 9-9.
