As that great earlier post shows, he doesn’t throw enough pitches just off the plate. We all saw that when he missed the zone, it was by a ridiculous amount. No one will swing at a breaking ball that bounces before the plate, no matter how much spin it has.

Rosenthal confirms in his notes column today the Astros are interested in Hendriks. They tried to sign him and Treinen, so they obviously are looking to spend on the pen.

He had similar base running issues in the minors as well. Also I noticed today that he seemed to say he struggled playing deep due to the shift. As we saw, he acted like he never saw a ball hit the lip before. Hopefully he takes hundreds of ground balls this offseason as if he’s back in the shift for a lefty. We should see huge improvements there.

I’m more concerned with the lack of burst on the bases. I don’t think he’s going to be an awful base runner, but it doesn’t seem like he’s going to be a plus-plus base runner like advertised. Same goes with the defense, and that’s why his value to me is a lot lower than some on here have for him.

I think it’s more he’s far and away the most expendable of the major league core guys, and that someone like Wong or C. Hernandez would give you similar if not greater production.
