  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/11/11/lev...ebuilding-mode/ Wait, are we in a "rebuild" now? Sure seems like Levine spinning what Hahn said to fit his agenda for the story.
  2. Buehrle to the Cardinals makes so much more sense
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) Ok State won't make it either then, because the Big 12 doesn't have a title game anymore. If Ok St. or Baylor run the table, they will absolutely make it. Probably finish 3rd in that situation.
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Stanford moved up because 3 teams ahead of them lost, and looked bad in doing so. The only team they really passed was Florida, and it's not hard to see the logic, Stanford looked dominant against a weak opponent while Florida was lucky to escape a crappy team at home (if Vanderbilt doesn't pull a Jacksonville State with that punt I think they win). This isn't the first or second or even third time Florida has struggled mightily against poor teams, so I'm fine with where they are. The time zone excuse for justifying Stanford's lost is comical. To me, it seems like they just want to set up the "quarterfinal" game with ND/Stanford.
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) Florida needed a FG late in the 4th to beat Vandy at home. If it was a 23-21 type game then I may see your point but not when the final was 9-7. It just seems like some teams are being given the benefit of the doubt with close wins and others are being punished for it. I said the same thing last week, but looking bad and winning should hold more value than looking good and losing. Then when you do lose after looking bad in some wins (ie: Michigan St), that's when you should plummet in the polls. LSU dropping 7 spots just cause they lost at Bama seems extreme as well.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) What's so insane about them, is it because there are 1-loss teams ahead of undefeated teams? If people can accept 1 or 2 loss teams being ahead of Houston, then the same logic can apply to the others. Also, the committee is trying to rank the best teams, not necessarily the most deserving. I think they're trying to do a combination of both. It's hard to get a read on the Big 12 teams right now, especially Baylor. This will all work itself out though. Not quite sure why Stanford jumped up so much, and I hate seeing Florida lose a spot after a win while FSU stays the same after a loss.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) If the top 4 win out, things won't change. If Baylor or Okl St win out they will definitely make it
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) Just remember, they are still worthless right now. Last year's champion was ranked in the teens at this point. Yeah funny how pissed Big 12 fans are
  9. These rankings are insane. It's the year of a good lose being more valuable than a bad win. If the committee gives Stanford credit for losing an early start time, why is that game even played so early?
  10. Couple of thoughts: - after Lucroy's major concussion this year, I wouldn't give up much for him. He's one more concussion away from never catching again. - why would the Rockies want Q or Sale in an Arenado trade? If they give up Arenado, they're not trying to compete for the remainder of Q/Sale's contract. If the Sox wanted Arenado, it would have to be a 3-way trade with a team like the Red Sox.
  11. Simply put it's Chicago media trying to generate buzz based off of an obvious need for both teams. Did anyone expect them to say they wouldn't trade with the other.
  12. Hahn's comments today actually made it seem less likely they would trade with Cubs due to his 8 mile comment
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:57 AM) anyone other than him and russell, the deal would not be fair. Man are there going to be posters disappointed by the actual return they get for Q
  14. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) No it wouldn't be plenty. The Sox don't need to trade the cost-controlled Quintana, so if they decide to do it I hope they can do better than guys who bring the serious questions that Baez, Soler, and Castro bring. Soler just had an Avi-like year. Baez will never strike out in fewer than 30% of his plate appearances; he'll have to run a .340 BABIP to be special. We know all about Castro's issues. I know they're young but it's still all a bunch of question marks. I want an exclamation point somewhere in a package for Q. Those 3 have total cost certainty involved with their contracts. You go get a bigger name for Q, like Frazier, and you have no idea what you'll have to pay him in a few years.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) Historically when Theo has money, he throws around money. One of the players they're interested in that I really hope they don't get is O'Day. He'll dominate in the NL if he goes there.
  16. I've been wondering the last 24 hours if Renteria coming to the Sox increased chances of them going after Castro. Those two got along well in 2014.
  17. QUOTE (bruni @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 06:32 PM) That's not enough for Q. Really? Baez and Soler are MLB ready, cheap and have a chance to be special offensive talents. Castro is a 10 year younger version of Alexi with all the + and - that go into that mix. And you add in 2 pitchers to the young mix you have coming up through the system. Seems fair to me for Q plus Viciedo Jr. or do you somehow see better in other systems that would be available? Can't win if you can't hit, play D or manage. Maybe we make them throw in Davy Martinez to manage too! Yeah, that package would be plenty for Q, but it would never happen.
  18. Just about the worst call I have ever seen. Guy was probably 3 yards out of bounds for ten yards
  19. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) SIGN HIM AND BENCH HIM Cheap option to platoon with LaRoche!
  20. Not shocking news, and I won't be upset if they go in another direction. I guarantee it won't be Sanchez. If they do stay in-home, Saladino is the one they view as a potential SS.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) I would have put MSU ahead of ND and maybe even Alabama. Doesn't matter a whole lot though, if MSU beats OSU they'll jump over both. Yep, your post above about how a lot has to go ND's way to make it was very well written. If a team from B10 or B12 goes undefeated, they're definitely in.
  22. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Having the best win doesn't mean as much if all the rest of your wins are collectively far inferior, like I said Bama has 4 wins arguably better than MSU's 2nd best win, and they've at least looked dominate at times, where MSU hasn't. I get the no losses argument but to me nearly losing to Purdue is almost as damning as a loss, not to mention going down to the wire with Rutgers. How you win matters. To play devil's advocate, then why isn't ND being punished for needing a miracle to win at UVa? I agree with rock, it feels like Michigan St. is receiving too little credit for winning at Michigan. To me, the team that looked the most impressive in any top win this year was Florida destroying Ole Miss.
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 04:42 AM) Clearly the playoff committee doesn't disagree. And about your point, what if a team has 4 losses but has 7 top ten wins? They would have by far the best quality of wins, but they'd have no chance at the playoff. Clearly it does matter. What if two teams both have one loss, but team A lost by 1 in overtime on the road to the #1 ranked team, and team B lost by 25 to an unranked foe at home? Team B has beaten 3 top 25 teams, while Team A has defeated 2. Who is more deserving in that scenario? Also, I did address the wins, I said ND was 7-1 against the 14th SOS. But it will sort itself out anyway. If Baylor/TCU/Ok State/MSU all win out, their resume will be better than ND's. Not sure about Bama though. Bama is going to end up with best SOS if they win out. They are easily in if they win out
  24. Florida should be highest ranked one loss team. Oh well, it will all get shaken up depending on whether or not Baylor/TCU run the B12 gauntlet
  25. Whenever I watch, Snell looks like he doesn't belong on the court. With Rose being as average as he is, seems like the Bulls aren't nearly as talented as they have been.
