Viciedo got a meatball, and continues hit fall towards the lower 200s.

They have to get Nieto more at bats. Flowers is so overmatched.

Way to go Beckham! Ausmus with a terrible inning here.

White Sox vs Tigers
Nieto has a really good eye. As he gets more at bats, he'll likely start squaring up some of these pitches he's fouling off.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw 1m @brettaustin_3 saw you fav'd my tweet. Any thoughts? Disagree? keithlaw @keithlaw · Jun 10 Karsten Whitson, Brett Austin, and DeAndre Smelter all could have had $1M+ in 2011 and didn't sign. Austin might get half. Other two get zip Smelter has the chance to make good money as a receiver in next year's NFL draft.

Screwball action on that change-up

White Sox vs Tigers
Was there any talk on the broadcast about playing the infield back when Cabrera was on 3rd earlier in the game? Seems like the Sox made it way too easy for Hunter to get the job done.

Avila got away with blocking the plate there. Eaton is safe if he can slide directly to the plate.

If we're competing in mid-July
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 09:26 PM) Honestly I don't want to see any pieces added unless they are salary dumps where the Sox are only sending B-C level talent in the deal. That or just straight waiver claims. The rotation isn't nearly strong enough to warrant going all-out for this season. That's why it would have to be moves that are designed to help the 2015, 2016, etc. White Sox as well. If you can go get a strong hitting LF that has a few years left on his deal, then by all means....trade away. One of the good things about having a mediocre farm is that there's no one you should get too upset about if they're traded.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) I hope it is an expensive and long term deal. Theo talked last offseason about not paying for what people have done in the past, but what they project to do in the future. Masterson losing his velocity seems like someone he would want to avoid.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw 2m The White Sox have essentially put an upper bound on what they can give Carlos Rodon by signing picks 2-10. Which makes me more confident than if they had only signed a handful of 2-10 picks

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) Ah the talk of the Cubs signing Lester and Masterson next offseason is already beginning. Not surprising at all. I bet they get one of them. The funny thing is they've done an incredible job the last few years of signing pitchers to 1-year deals (Maholm, Feldman, Hammel). It's the long-term Jackson deal that has overshadowed those moves.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread
As I said a few hours ago before the recent signings were announced, the Sox have to believe they're in a great position to sign Rodon for them to lock up everyone else in their first 10 picks.

If we're competing in mid-July
I was thinking today that the 3 biggest positions where they need upgrades heading into next year are likely LF, C and SP. If they acquire someone this season, hopefully it's a player that has at least another year on their contract that can play one of those positions.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) Updated 1 (3): Carlos Rodon, LHP, /$5,721,500 2 (44): Spencer Adams, $1,282,700/$1,282,700 3 (77): Jace Fry, /$726,000 4 (108): Brett Austin, $450,000/$485,400 5 (138): Zach Thompson, $363,400/$363,400 6 (168): Louie Lechich, $40,000/$272,100 7 (198): Jake Peter, $203,800/$203,800 8 (228): John Ziznewski, /$162,100* 9 (258): Brian Clark, /$151,400 10 (288): Jake Jarvis, $141,300?/$141,300 - Assuming that this is full slot since this is a HS player 14 (408): Bryce Montes de Oca, /$100,000 So they basically signed 2-5 at slot value given Fry and Austin combining to equal their 3-4 slots now. I find it hard to imagine a situation where the Sox sign Montes de Oca. As for Rodon, it would seem he will be getting in the 6 million range if he signs.
