Sox @ Tigers, Quintana vs. Scherzer, 4/24, 12:08, CSN
Gameday has Q's velocity at 90 today...less than last year, correct?

Sox @ Tigers, Quintana vs. Scherzer, 4/24, 12:08, CSN
Q can't get the 3rd out today, but Sox can't get a 2 out hit. Bad combination.

Shocking that Iassogna made a ball call. How did the Sox get stuck with him and CB in back-to-back series?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) On the bright side, that is 96 pitches for Max, through 5IP. No way he should get past 6

Just can't get the big hit today.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) I am shocked nobody has moved ahead of him in minors. Have you seen our minor league outfield prospects? I'm pretty sure they combined for a lower batting average last year than Tyler Flowers has this year.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Jordan's step before his swing is too long. He's just not a MLB caliber hitter. I really don't get having him at the top of the order in front of your red-hot 3/4/5

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) Not even close. I am not a fan of Gordon anymore but this doomsday stuff is silly +1 Sale's health, Avi being out, finding a 5th starter have a significantly greater impact than Beckham over Semien.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Hawk will kiss his ass 24/7 no matter what. Cool, in 3 years, he can go to Japan and watch Beckham and Randy Ruiz play for the same team.

Tough match-up for Beckham in his first game back. With that said, he better be on a short leash this year.

With how awful the Tigers bullpen is, gotta keep working Scherzer's pitch count. Getting him out after 6 would be huge.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:07 PM) Tough luck for Hoffman this late in the season, my wild speculation regarding his injury is that his last start was basically an unofficial pro-day with so many scouts in attendance so he dialed it up and let everything fly to very positive results. However in the process he probably overextended himself which probably led to this recent soreness, my concern is whether he can consistently pitch at the level he did in his last start without risking serious injury. I've never been a believer in Hoffman and this really should scare Hahn & Co. off of him at #3. If Aiken/Kolek are off the board at #3 I'd probably go with Alex Jackson, I know our OF depth in the minors in a bit crowded but his swing and tools are too hard to pass up IMO. It's more that our pitching depth is horrible right now.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) He slapped a good pitch low and away right to where the 2B should have been playing. Silly to blame that run on choosing to not walk a guy in the 3rd inning. It's Miguel Cabrera...I wouldn't advocate pitching around anyone else besides him in the 3rd inning, even Trout. In that situation, he's just such a tough out.

When facing Scherzer, you can't give them cheap runs like this with bad defense and dumb strategy.

Sox @ Tigers, Quintana vs. Scherzer, 4/24, 12:08, CSN
Ugh, why are you pitching to Cabrera with an open base? Quintana struggling to get that 3rd out.

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) Sad part is that Farmer and DJ defended the plays saying they have no problem him going for it with 2 outs. Didn't see the play, but if he didn't go for it, would it have only been a single? In that situation, you absolutely let it drop for a single to avoid the runner getting into scoring position.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) What exactly happened to Conors hand? Did he get hit by a pitch? Field a smashed line drive? They probably should just DL him if it's been causing him pain for so long and he still can barely grip a bat.

2014 Draft class
If the Hoffman injury is serious, it could actually hurt the Cubs more than anyone. There seems to be a consensus top 4 right now, and then a big drop to the next tier of players. I still worry the Sox won't want to take a high school pitcher that high.

Bad news indeed on Hoffman, as I can't see the Sox drafting him now. Hopefully this puts Aiken/Kolek more in play, and not Beede.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
Semien doesn't hit Abreu-like blasts, but he has real good power to straight away LF.

Sox @ Tigers, 4/23, Rienzo vs. Smyly, 6:08 on CSN+
Pretty happy my heart didn't have to deal with me watching the 9th. Great win though!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 01:24 AM) There's a lot of people that aren't going to like Ale no matter what. His bat will be fine, no worries there. I'm a fan of his bat, but you can tell he's not picking up the ball at all at the plate. More checked-swings this year than any other Sox player I've seen in a month span.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 01:10 AM) All Sem does is hit go-ahead HRs. All 3 so far. And he has 13 RBI. On pace for about 100. All against lefty relievers.
