  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) Having Danks be hurt and struggle early this year really hurt the chances of that. With Danks, the Sox should give them their best and last offer for a contract extension this offseason. If he says no, then you have to trade him. You can't afford to let him go to free agency, as the Sox will be outbid for him and honestly, getting two draft picks doesn't mean much to this organization.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) If I were the Yankees this offseason and he were a FA this offseason, there's no reason at all not to offer him $100/6, and that's $16.6 million. And that's why Danks should have been traded to the Yankees or Rangers at the deadline this year.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) I wouldn't be shocked at him getting that if he hits the open market. Then you wish him the best. He's not a 17 million dollar pitcher to me. 14 is the max the Sox should go.
  4. Lillibridge's swing is just awesome right now. Needs to be playing more than he has, as he's dangerous.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Ummm....why would a struggling franchise pay John Danks $17 million a year? That's crazy. No way Reinsdorf will do that after this season...they'll trade Danks, Quentin and possibly Thornton (depending on where Sale ends up). He's not going to make 17 million a year.
  6. Something I was thinking about is that if you know you're going to have to go into next year with The Three Busts, you better try like hell to upgrade at 3rd base. Seems like LF will be De Aza/Lillibridge, Rios in CF, and Viciedo in RF. Catcher is AJP/Flowers, with Konerko at 1B, Alexei at SS, and Beckham at 2B.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) So at least one other person is with me! I pull him, and hope he can rebound next week. It's not like we can skip him with Stewart in the rotation as well and Humber being a question mark. The biggest complaint I have with how Sox have handled Peavy this year is they treated him like Mark Buerhle instead of trying to steal a few games they could skip him in, etc.
  8. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) seriously 3 guys who have been with us their whole careers (besides Carlos short zona stint) and who are likeable and play hard that we can't keep because of 3 pigs with no ties to the organization. disgusts me Whoever the GM is will have to try and unloaded at least one of the three busters for another bad contract. I can't see anyway you allow all of them back on the roster next year. Fans already hate them enough this year, and that's with a few remaining likable vets on this team. I just can't wait for Peavy to be our Opening Day starter next year because of his experience.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Did no one else notice this? or did osmeone post it while I wasn't here this morning? It was in another thread I think, while Ozzie also said Viciedo isn't a clean-up hitter at this point
  10. If Rios was allowed to use one of those aluminum bats that college baseball used a few years ago, do you think he'd be able to hit the ball out the opposite way?
  11. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) I am sick of watching, listening to and reading about Jake Peavy. If he is the reason we don't resign Mark I will be very unhappy. It's setting up to be an absolute PR nightmare for the Sox this offseason when they either can't bring back Buehrle or have to unload two fan favorites in Danks and Quentin while maybe the two most despised Sox players of our generation in Dunn and Rios will be making 33% of the payroll. As for Peavy...don't even get me started on him. The entire AL Central should send a fruit basket to the doctor that salvaged his career.
  12. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Anyways, Rowand and Tejada were DFA. Let's bring Rowand back! Where is Crede? Find Crede and reunite the 3 Stooges. Why are teams so dumb when evaluating players
  13. If Juan gets on, you think Ozzie will have the next batter bunt?
  14. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) what the hell is going on Peavy 5.64 ERA as a starter...how bad was Navarro with the Sox?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) GMAB fathom. Hudson for Jackson was terrible. Jackson for Stewart still looks promising. Unless you're saying you can judge everything from Stewart on 3 starts. After all, judging Dan Hudson based on 3 starts worked great. Stewart is not impressive at all to me. Anyway you slice it, going from Hudson to Stewart is awful. They were talking about this on the radio today as well, so it's not just me saying this.
  16. Congrats Jake, you're now the second worst starting pitcher in the AL. I can't wait to hear him blame this on his relief outing so far.
  17. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 06:24 PM) Only Williams could find an ace with his arm about to fall off - literally. The fact the Sox even got Peavy told me everyone else knew something was up because the Sox don't outbid other teams for true quality players. I've said this before, but it's just a dagger to know how close the Cubs were to getting both Peavy and Dunn.
  18. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) Peavy - Bust Dunn - Bust Rios - Bust KW is on a phenomenal streak. Hudson for Stewart looks just lovely as well
  19. Peavy now safely the third worst starting pitcher in the AL after Lackey and Burnett.
  20. Peavy must have thought this is a playoff game. BUT HE'S A GRINDER!
  21. Just think, we're watching the highest paid pitcher in Sox history on the mound. What an absolute joke he is. He needs to go back to the NL and go back to whatever routine he used to do.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) Why not? Seriously. If he's good enough to be in the lineup, he's good enough to bat 4th. He's been hitting better as of late too. Wait, what? 10 for last 57, with probably 7 of those hits being flares or bad defensive plays.
  23. It's going to be interesting to see if Ozzie talks crap about all of his haters (Kenny, members of the media, etc.) when he leaves. All I know is that he better not tarnish the 2005 team by talking about more off the field stuff like he did with Jenks.
  24. I'm fine with Flowers getting more time off, as he hasn't looked all that good the last few games. Against someone like Verlander and Scherzer, I would rather have AJP getting the at bats.
  25. Viciedo isn't a number four hitter but Rios is according to Ozzie makes me cry in my sleep
