  1. The more I think about who we'd have to trade in the event of an actual firesale, the more nervous I get. Hopefully we just play better from here on out and even if we come up short on making the playoffs, we play well enough to convince JR and KW to keep the core together.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Teams do this all of the time. It's called buying low. It brought us guys like Jim Thome and Jose Contreras off of the top of my head. Indeed, and if you have a high payroll like we do, it's a great way to get talent without having to give up much. It might not have worked out well with Rios and/or Peavy, but it's much better to be the team in the position to get the talent instead of a team like the Pirates that loses it.
  3. Cooper seemed frustrated with Peavy's ability to get going today on the radio. The good news is that the scar tissue broke up now instead of down the road, as that could have been a more significant setback if it took place when he was in the rotation. I'm thinking by end of May, he'll be in rotation and by mid June, hopefully at 100 pitches. I'd take that!
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Now is the chance to be an expert by figuring out why the team will turn it around. Anyone can point out the problems, the fun is figuring out what no one else sees. So I am not surprised that fathom would start this thread. I am surprised he hasn't contributed more meat. That's what I was hoping to read. Read this three times, and still don't understand what you're trying to say. And if you're saying that anyone could point out the stuff I said, I highly doubt most people would list stuff about Will Ohman looking better, etc. and most people probably had turned off the game before seeing Dunn's compact swing for a double.
  5. Funny thing is I'm completely serious with this. Kinda clicked with me when watching the Twins have Holm and Tolbert have to bat in the 9th inning against Gregg. Also, as much as I get down on Peavy, it looks like he still has a chance in a month or so to start contributing to the big league club. That's better than what we thought we'd hear 48 hours ago.

    2011 TV Thread

I've enjoyed the recent Year of the Quarterback specials on ESPN. The Locker/Cam/Tyrod Taylor documentary is interesting, especially with the combine episode next week.
  7. Even I am tired of seeing new thread after new thread claiming the world is ending. With that said, there's actually some light at the end of the tunnel in my opinion. They are: - Quentin is swinging the bat great, and Ozzie was very proactive in moving him into the 3rd spot - Dunn had his best swing in two weeks tonight - Rios with 3 hard hit balls is more than he had in the last two weeks - Sale's fastball reached 98 mph - Ohman has turned it around since his first few games
  8. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 04:18 AM) I would agree, but the Twins fans are saying the same thing about watching us -__-. I sure hope Cleveland remembers that they are supposed to be bad soon. Cleveland's pitching won't hold up. I'm still not concerned with them.
  9. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 04:14 AM) White Sox baseball is comedy this season. After watching the Twins bat in the 9th today, I don't feel as bad about things. We're obviously playing terrible right now, but it's better to be 6 games behind Cleveland than it would be the Twins/Tigers.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) What pisses me off about this is that when Jereme was a junio and hit the half court shot to end Paul's high school career, Brandon was man enough to walk into the Waukegan locker room before getting on the bus and hugging Richmond and congratulating him on the shot and game. Took a man to do that. Just shows Jereme is a ass and I'm sorry for ever defending him when he was in high school. I'm still thankful that Ahmad Starks hit that ridiculous shot in order to knock out Richmond from the state tourney.
  11. BTW, tough call for Ozzie tomorrow. He wanted to get Rios a day off, but he'll have to decide whether or not to get Rios back on the field after having his best night in two weeks.
  12. He hit the ball hard 3 times tonight. Hopefully he builds off of that.
  13. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:36 AM) Hahaha Ranger getting testy already.. Is he still saying it's way too early to worry?
  14. Chad Qualls must really hate the city of Chicago.
  15. Best way to put it is we're just playing like a very bad baseball team right now. If you start thinking of players who have played well for Sox, really I'd only say Quentin, Danks and Santos (and Konerko as of 48 hours ago). You're not going to win when you have so many players underachieving.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:11 AM) per Merkin: the white sox have trailed for the last 51 innings. at some point you just have to laugh I blame the thread saying it could only get better.
  17. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:07 AM) Nothing. I stopped reading there. It's April. It's 7 games. They were going to lose 7 this year, it was just a matter of when. We heard the same thing after 5 and 6 games.
  18. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) Plus, many players seemed to find some extra life in their career when going to texas/working with Jaramillo if you follow my drift... NO WAY!
  19. Sale's fastball was strong tonight! Between that, Rios with two good swings, and Dunn making contact twice....it's a moral victory!
  20. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) Who is the best hitting coach of all time? I'm serious who is it? Drawing a blank? Though so. If they mattered you'd be able to tell me. According to answers.com, Charlie Lau is best hitting coach of all time. Jaramillo and Milt Thompson are considered two of the best.
  21. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:59 AM) You said said it was! And this is another reason why b****ing about hitting coaches is stupid. Fans don't know or see the work they do. Hell it's very possible he's telling hitters everything he possibly can and they just don't want to listen. and then you fire him and see if maybe someone else relates better. I hate the argument that hitting coaches don't matter. If that's true, then f***ing fire them all and hire Brooklyn Decker to be the hitting coach.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:57 AM) If not, I'd settle for Ozzie completely going ballistic in the locker room; throwing over the food table, calling out the veterans. Something. Or Jerry Reinsdorf publicly ripping into the team. How the hell is this happening with our payroll? Seven in a row?? Ozzie completely ripped on the bullpen...and we haven't won since. Even the Captain looks like he's just going through the motions.
  23. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:52 AM) Yeah, Beckham never adjusted to the league and has continued to suck. Oh wait. In Walkers ChiSox career, they just have not had good young hitters come through the system (Beckham really is the first). Hitting coaches don't really matter. That's why b****ing about the current one is pointless exercise. Who knows if this is true. Fields had a dynamite rookie year with regards to power, and then the next year, looked like he'd never seen a fastball in his life.
