QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) I think they're more on the "they need to show up in order to support the existence of the franchise" level. I have not heard anything relating to the franchise being in trouble. Isn't Roger Dorn still the owner? Anyways, for those saying we haven't ripped their attendance, that's false. The second game of the season, there were a handful of posts amazed by the lack of fans in the stands.

And if you have one during the 3rd week of the season, who knows how many more you'll have the rest of the year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) Especially with how young that team is, I don't think that's foolish at all. They have the luxury of playing for time and pretty much expecting to get better, not worse. And even if they struggle this year, with Wainright out, the NL Central is totally winnable for them. Like I said, I felt they overachieved last year. Everyone was concerned about the innings Leake and Wood threw, and they probably would have been wise to invest in a set-up man instead of Masset.

Liggins would likely lose playing time next year anyways, so why not go when he has some pretty good buzz after how he did in the postseason? He's someone that never liked school anyways, and had thought about leaving school a few times. -
This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Twinkie fans did not like the Mauer signing?? I'd hope they wouldn't...way too much money for someone that had already had some red flags due to injuries. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) If you were a Reds fan, would you have traded last season's Central win for the possibility of better pitching this year? Obviously not, but it goes to show you that if you have a "dream season", which I believe they did after all their ridiculous comebacks, you better capitalize in the postseason and go far. Also, I thought it was foolish of them to go into this year with basically the same exact team they had last year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Who would the Indians be forced to trade in the next year or so if they got too expensive? Carmona or Choo? They're pretty much stuck with Hafner and Sizemore for the time being, right? They were in serious discussions to trade Carmona last offseason. I'm not really worried about Cleveland though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) And most importantly, what does their attendence look like? I didn't know they were all in this season and telling their fans that they need them to show up in order to support the record organizational payroll.

I can't take credit for Trayce. I'm a bigger fan of his brother as a basketball prospect. Good to see Mitchell picking it up, but disappointing to see Danks struggling so much.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 05:53 AM) No s***. The Player's Association should be able to sanction managers like that. Their pitching substitutions should be handled by a court-appointed guardian. Reds pitchers already look gassed as compared to last season. That was quite predictable.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:04 AM) No, I'm asking you not the thread. What team and what manager makes those moves that wins games. You said it's out there, I just want to know who I should be thinking about. Scioscia does a great job handling his bullpen. I was so impressed by his proactivity in pulling his lefty reliever prior to facing Pierre on Sunday. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) I wouldn't say a heartbeat. But I'd definitely think about it. I'm not making excuses for Alex. But I feel he was mishandled prior to this year. On a team as bad as the Royals, he should've been given the chance to f*** up over and over and over again until he got it right. Sorta like Matt Wieters. Wait, I forgot he's no longer playing 3b. Maybe not a heartbeat, but I have huge doubts over Beckham's mental capacity to be a .300 hitter. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) Gordon Beckham for Alex Gordon is on the table? What do you do? Let's keep in mind Alex Gordon is a whole two years older than Beckham. Make that trade in a heartbeat -

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) I blame the manager for the team failing at fundamentals. Even today, Rios took a bad route and dropped a sure out that turned into a double, Konerko got picked off, Gordon f***ed up a double play. This team's defense has been lacking all season and it's really simple things that should be stressed. The outfield dropping flyballs is not on Ozzie. If those overpaid busters can't catch a ball, then they should bench themselves. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:17 AM) So if you adjust that, the players haven't performed well at anything. Hard to put that on the manager and a few bunts. The players we have aren't very good right now and it's about time to realize that they are at fault. Losses make a manager look bad and wins make you forget they even exist. I said the same thing earlier about how good pitching/hitting makes managers look better. Ozzie's lineups have been fine this year, it's just the overuse of bunting seems to be out of control. The two huge mistakes he made with our pitchers was pulling Buehrle last Monday and then not letting Crain start the 9th last Wednesday (a game that seems to have deflated the team). -

Hey, I was all for hoping the offense struggled cause of the great pitchers we faced, but we looked awful tonight. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:12 AM) feel bad for Dunn. Dude was hitting the ball pretty hard before his appendix revolted. Hope he gets his groove back soon, we need someone's bat to pull the rest out of this funk. But the only team I'm looking at in the standings is losing again tonight, so that makes the slump easier to swallow. They'll snap out of this. And that's not just blind optimism. You're going to be big fans of the 2011 White Sox. Give it more than just 16 games. Why does it feel that I'm the only person who thinks the Tigers have the most talent in the AL Central? -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:11 AM) Neither, it's the managing. The hitting and pitching will at least come around. Good hitting and good pitching can hide 99% of managerial issues. It's when the hitting and pitching are struggling where you need to steal games, and I think Ozzie is poor at that. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:09 AM) Biggest problem on this club, the hitting or pitching? Hitting, not even close. In most of these games, they're not even hitting the ball hard. Dunn and Rios have hit maybe 6 balls hard all season, and most of Beckham's outs have been pathetic. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) I'm starting to think it's a leadership problem in the clubhouse for several bad seasons in a row. Lots of people in the media believe the man to blame for bad leadership almost went to the Dodgers via free agency. Considering Buehrle and Konerko are the only two constants for the players (along with AJ), I think you'd have to look at Ozzie and see if maybe there's a disconnect. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) At some point your players have to put it together. The pen has imploded, and the lineup has gone cold. One run out of this lineup is a joke no matter what night it is, even with a bunt or two. The 3,4,5 hitters on this team need to f***ing hit the damn ball and the rest of the guys need to slap some singles. I'm not sure how anyone in baseball could have managed a win with the performance by our offense today. Sucks for Danks who is having a stellar season. Yes, the offense is slumping, but giving up outs isn't going to make it any better. The bunt has failed so much already this year, it's time to try something new.
