  1. Just reading brief summary and not reviewing any mock drafts besides top 10 picks, the player who jumps out at me as someone that KW and company might like and is ranked in the 50 range is Anthony Meo of Coastal Carolina.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) It's not trying to be tough. It's his overall attitude. You can't be a extremely competitive person when you want to be. It's who he is. The same thing that makes him want to pitch through problems is the same thing that makes him a Cy Young award winning pitcher and a pitcher who came back from an unprecedented injury. Was what he did smart? No. But all athletes that are at the very top of their profession tend to have this attitude. Did MJ sit out of a game when he had food poisoning? No. Why did he do it? It's because that was his personality. If he would have flopped in that game everyone would have ripped him for playing while sick and "not helping the team." I prefer this attitude to the "giving up" attitude of some players. But then again that type of player is not usually one of the best in the game. If MJ would have sucked against Utah and not told anyone until after the game that he couldn't shoot straight due to being sick, I would have asked "why the hell didn't he tell the training staff before the end of the game instead of hurting his team's chances to win".
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) That's pretty much how I feel about it. Question for the masses, should the Sox take a chance on any of these guys who have come up with injuries in the last month or so instead of picking from the healthy players? Could it be worth it in the long run? Absolutely you take a chance with someone who's stock has fallen due to injuries. If they haven't been injured yet, there's a decent chance most of them will be in the future anyways (Tommy John, shoulder, etc).
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 04:14 AM) so you prefer the type of athlete that, at the slightest pain just gives up and says I'm done? That's fine if you prefer an athlete with that type of attitude. I prefer the type that doesn't give in and continues to work at it. Pitching is a violent motion and pitchers always hurt to some extent. You get guys like Prior who can't deal with it and guys like Peavy who try to work through it. You can have Prior, I'll take Peavy. That's fine if he wants to pitch through the pain, but don't use it as an excuse if you start getting rocked. Plain and simple, he cost us the game today because he tried to be a warrior. That's pretty inexcusable after everything that's gone on with him the last year.
  5. Impressive win by the Heat...but I bet NBA wishes it was greater than a 2 point victory with the backcourt violation that will surely come into focus.
  6. Spolestra is definitely winning the battle of plays coming out of timeouts. Mavs have been a disaster in those situations.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:36 AM) So how come nobody is complaining about Dallas getting all the calls tonight? Indeed, except for the free 3 points that Miami got at end of 1st quarter.
  8. Mavs bench just killing them. Barea had a nice minute stretch, but besides that, he's been one of the Heat's best players.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:01 AM) He felt a "grabbing sensation" at first. He didn't try to pitch through something, he just didn't know if he was hurt. This is the type of thing where you're not sure what's wrong until it actually tightens up. Pitching through an injury would have been going back out there after that inning. He said he was trying to get out of the inning without using his leg. With all of the injuries he's had lately, he should have been smarter than trying to pitch with an ailment that could impact his mechanics.
  10. Maybe it's me, but seemed like an awful time to take Dirk out. Mavs bench continues to kill them in this game with terrible shot selection.
  11. So Peavy tried to pitch through the pain after the botched double play, and the result was he gave us no chance to win the game....AWESOME! That's not called being a grinder, that's called being stupid. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1007957.story
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 01:49 AM) How many of those leaves are there per year? Didn't Candace Parker miss a portion of the season due to being knocked up?
  13. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 12:48 AM) Trade him for Zambrano. Throw in Rios and Dunn for good measure. I'd trade him for Zambrano in a heartbeat, but Cubs would never do that.
  14. We held our WNBA fantasy draft the other day. The categories are ACL tears, pregnancy leaves and publicly coming out. I like my teams, got a lot of players with hyphenated names so we should be good with in-season pregnancy leave of absences.
  15. Barea has been barutal
  16. So did the NBA change the over and back rules without telling me? Blatant backcourt violation there before Chalmers three pointer.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Fantastic. You know he'll try to return a week earlier than expected, numerous people will praise him for being a fighter, and then he'll probably change up his mechanics to compensate for the groin strain and he'll aggravate something in his shoulder. He reminds me of a professional wrestler with all these freak injuries. I saw where he said he tweaked it in Boston. Well, I'm sure glad he spoke up and said something. Of course, as soon as he gets bombed by the Tigers in the 4th, he complains about it.
  18. Peavy's expected to miss at least one start, and DL stint is very likely. Damn San Diego and Toronto!
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) I'm no longer an Adam Dunn fan and I curse the day we signed him. You should start a pool about how much money we'll have to include when we trade him and Rios. I still don't see how anyone supports Kenny Williams.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Why Sox draft like s*** anyway............Maybe we can overreach 30 rounds again and draft another f***ing Williams or Guillen for no reason at all That's the scary part...our first round pick is only pick where it seems we're determined to invest the money we have to.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Deepest draft from a pitching perspective in years. Recent mock draft has Nats taking Alex Meyer in our slot. He'd easily be best pitching prospect we have.
  22. Just think tomorrow how Mr. Done cost us our first round pick.
  23. Oh Albert Pujols
  24. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) Sox lucked out against Boston big time at a time when they really needed it. That too
  25. Couple of bright spots today: Dunn's squared up two pitches, and Beckham seems to have found his power stroke.
