This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
fathom replied to johndyce's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Dunn contract was praised for being a great deal in contrast to the Werth/Crawford deals. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Jesus. I'm sorry I don't revel in the high-octane fun that is watching Peavy walk back to the dugout hoping that he doesn't break his ankle in doing so. It's insane...if it was someone like Carlos Zambrano who produced what Peavy has since he was acquired, people would be saying he was the biggest bust in Sox history. However, since they like Peavy and his "bulldog" approach, they're sitting around waiting for the Cy Young version of him to return (something he's said is likely gone for good).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he announced his retirement this year. We couldn't get so lucky

If there's a firesale, the people who will be dealt are Buehrle, Danks, Thornton, Quentin and Rios. Peavy might be the worst contract in all of baseball right now (up there with Zito and Soriano), and it's not likely teams would jump on Konerko and Dunn yet. Maybe it's me, but after looking at KW's awful trades of late, I'd be hesitant to see him wheeling and dealing so many of our core players. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 04:08 AM) Say what you will about the Indians, but these guys can mash. Choo, Sizemore, Santana, Hafner is definitely turning into a formidable middle of order.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 04:49 AM) No offense to anybody, but I can't believe all the threads that just don't care that we dropped yet another game, just because it's early and things will be fine. We sure don't have the one game at a time mentality on this message board. Where's the concern? This team is horses*** right now on a daily basis. Chris Rongey said yesterday that it's still early!

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 03:37 AM) I had no problems with the Peavy trade when it happened but I was scratching my head a little when Jake came back in Sept. 2009 because of the possibility of what ended up happening. We all have heard stories of pitchers hurting a foot or a knee and altering their mechanics and then boom-career over due to arm issues. I'm afraid that this may have happened to Peavy. There was no reason for Peavy to pitch in 2009. The Sox were already out of the race if not eliminated when Peavy made his comeback. For what, exactly did we need Peavy's services in 2009? Furthermore, when the trade was made I looked up highlights on mlb.com to see what we would be getting. I distinctly recall Peavy pitching at 89-91 with occasional pops at 92-93 with the fastball in September 2009. I knew he was favoring his ankle then due to the differences in velocity. Just as a reference, did Peavy hurt his left(plant) ankle? If so, then it makes sense. The the White Sox organization has mishandled their ace just as the Cubs did with Prior/Wood, and has destroyed a career in the process. They ruined Peavy just to show the fans that it was not a "dumb move mid season" They should have gone out at the time of the trade and told the fans that it would be like an offseason aquisition rather than a trade deadline move. Who knows if those innings hurt him, but I agree it was an absolutely ridiculous decision to pitch him at the end of that year.

Bulls played so stupid the final few minutes of the 3rd quarter.
-
Chad Qualls is such a loser. NL Central looks very mediocre so far, as Reds pitching is struggling as expected.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 02:59 AM) Trading for Peavy was a gamble that was worth taking. However, Kenny Williams actions since Peavy's torn lat are indefensible IMO. Can't trade Hudson, can't go "all in" counting on this guy to be healthy. The returns on his last 3 major trades (Swisher/Javy/Peavy) are shockingly bad. I'm obviously not an Ozzie fan, but KW deserves more blame than anyone for the mess this organization is in.

Be really nice if Sox call an audible and start the process of making Sale a starter.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 01:40 AM) Oh my goodness. f*** Peavy. They're going to have to do this thing without him. I'm no longer going to check this thread for any bulls*** updates talking about how Peavy is right on schedule. It's futile. This guy is toast. This is our payback for reveling in all Wood/Prior injuries. Padres sold us a lemon it appears. They had huge concerns over how his arm would hold up, and you got to give them credit for having the guts to trade the face of the franchise.

Focus should be on 2012 for Peavy. Seems this year is pushing it
-
Discomfort reason why he was pulled. Time to shut him down until after all star break. What an albatross this has become
-
Any updates on peavy? Let's hope we have contract insurance

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:58 AM) pierre, AJ (castro today), morel are really pretty big holes in this lineup... Rios
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) Shades of Mark Johnson and Royce Clayton at bottom of the line-up. Or Brian Anderson. It's the American League, yet we keep playing like NL teams. We haven't even faced any of the big boy lineups yet. This offense lived off of opening day the first week, but the last 7 games have been dreadful.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:55 AM) Why do we stink so badly? Bye bye, Ozzie. No way Jerry, as much as he likes u, is gonna let this continue through mid May. This team is so flat, someone's going to be the fall guy if it's mid May and we're 7-10 games below .500. I'm ready for Viciedo/Teahen to platoon in left and let Juan Pierre go play for the Chicago Little League squad.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) What a terrible player. But he's hitting .280!
-
Pierre is just killing this team. It's funny having Lillibridge, Morel and Pierre batting consecutively in the lineup. Smallball, yay!
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) Castro swing the bat! Seems he's done that a lot this year.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Every team in our division has a pitcher better than anybody we have, save the Royals (though will that be true next year?) I'd take Masterson over anybody in our rotation Who do the Twins have better than Danks? If you're saying Liriano, he's too much of a risk IMO.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) So you have no problem with benching Dunn but have no problem with Pierre playing because Ozzie 'won't bench him' People wonder why so many here hate this clown. He makes ridiculous decisions! Of course it's ridiculous, but expecting Ozzie to use his players wisely would be naive now.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 11:45 PM) Only idiot managers use the sac bunt. True, considering both runners would have scored on the double anyways.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) LOL? Yet Pierre can? It's Juan Pierre...Ozzie wouldn't have benched him for Barry Bonds in his prime.
