  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) Didn't realize that Hernandez had a 1.37 ERA in his last 7 starts. That's dealing. And of course, our odds are what, 36% of seeing him two series in a row like this? Hey, the Cubs get to face Wesley Wright in two series in a row!
  2. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) Is Kotsay REALLY hitting line shots all over the park and getting robbed? I don't watch all the games from Europe but this sounds like a Hawk and Erstad love affair part deux That was easily the hardest hit ball he's had. Hawk's been overreacting about some pretty routine ground balls and fly outs by Kotsay lately.
  3. Someone needs to tell Pierre to stop f***ing bunting! He's so pathetic at it, it's insane he keeps trying.
  4. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Carlos Torres can throw strikes....he just has lousy stuff. His control was awful at times last year with the Sox, and he recently walked 6 in a game in the minors.
  5. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) LaRoche and Werth would be rentals and do little to keep the team competitive in the long term, which would be one more hole to fill in the offseason besides PK and AJP. Baustista is a fluke akin to Richard Hidalgo and will get too big of raise for his career level or production, Scott is a DH who could not even handle 1B last season for the O's and his production is outside of its norms this year as well so there will likely be some cooling off by him as well. Whole different era when you're comparing Bautista to Hidalgo.
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Well if he can't make the transition to AAA how is he suppose to hit ML pitching? I wish him well, I'm just saddened by the likes of him and JorDanks, both were suppose to be stars. Jordan Danks was never supposed to be a star.
  7. As I said at the time, Fukudome had agreed to go to the Cubs a few weeks before it was even announced. The whole "wanted to be the first Japanese player for the Cubs" was just a PR move. I know this because the Cubs had actually hired two Japanese translators for full-time positions two weeks before the deal was announced, and they were told they'd have a Japanese player on the roster.
  8. No thanks on Fukudome. He wears down way too much after the first few months....and let's not talk about how he does facing LHP. His AB last night to end the game = priceless!
  9. I'm a huge fan of Eibner, and it stinks we didn't have a supplemental pick to take him. He would have been a great 2nd pick. Also, it seems that the Sox would have taken Grandal if he was there, as was reported the day after the draft. I can't stress how cool it was to see KW say no to Loux due to his elbow issues.
  10. Still not throwing his curve for strikes, if he's throwing it at all. It's such a mistake to just annoint him after a mop-up inning.
  11. Santos to Arizona makes a ton of sense with their bullpen issues and need for a possible closer in the future.
  12. What's intriguing is that the Nationals have a fascination with Edwin Jackson, so getting Arizona involved might make it easier for the Sox to make a deal. Basically, Arizona's asking price for Jackson would be lower than Nats price for Dunn.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) It really does, but I see the stuff of a #2 to #3 starter in the AL. Whether he makes it or not, who knows. He has really nice velocity, good movement, and 3 quality pitches. I think he's got the ability and he appears to be a pretty smart, level headed guy. I'll take my chances with Huddy. Have you honestly seen a good slider from him though? I sure haven't. As I keep repeating, he has a plus change-up though that will really benefit him.
  14. Hudson will end up being just fine. He might struggle the rest of the way, but he has impressed me with his ability to make the hitter miss. It's not like he's getting hit hard by big league hitters. There's a few mechanical adjustments that need to be made, and hopefully he gets confidence in his slider. He's going to be a huge part of this franchise going forward.
  15. Some great insight about the draft on tonight's show. Sounds like KW was dead right on B. Loux and his injury issues. Sounds like with the first pick, out of the 6 possible players they were interested in, it was Grandal, Eibner, Workman, Loux, and Sale. KW was very interested in making Eibner a 2-way player.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:47 AM) I remember hearing that the M's had an issue with the health of one of the prospects and the Yankees wouldn't switch him out for another guy. Yes, but that was only a cover for backing out cause Texas agreed to finally give up Smoak.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:44 AM) There was talk on Sunday Night Baseball that the Angels traded for Haren so they could now move him to another team in exchange for a bat. Since Haren is signed til 2012, I don't think thats the case, but just throwing it out there. That was Bobby Valentine that said that....and he's a moron. Angels did this move not only for this season, but for the next few years.
  18. Shack, you know I love you, but the turning point in the Lee negotations was when Texas decided to include Smoak. Smoak was thought of higher by the Mariners than any other prospects they could have possibly received.
  19. Seriously, how f***ing stupid can the Cardinals play? Holliday was tagging instead of scoring easily on a single with one out. Yadier Molina is freaking terrible with the bat this season, as well. Can't believe he was voted to start the ASG.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 03:42 AM) Some are going to stroke that 2005 title until they're 6 feet under. We're not some kinda top-flight organization because of one title in the last 90+ years. I said it earlier today, but if the Tigers acquire Dunn, and the Sox get no one...the average fan will go into meltdown mode.
