  1. Also, Ozzie's saying the same crap about not wanting just a DH http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,5832319.story
  2. Kotsay is swinging the bat very well? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4247016.story
  3. The thing with the White Sox is I have absolutely no confidence in their ability to draft and develop their own players. Maybe they're just cursed? With that said, we're going to have to get some production from guys like Beckham, Hudson, and Viciedo (signed, not drafted). With the way Peavy and Rios become very expensive in the next few years, and the huge extension Danks would need to stay, we will have to find some starters from within. The injuries in the minors this year has to really hurt KW's evaluation of their ETA in the Majors.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 02:00 AM) And how long have we been hearing about the farm system drying up? Every year it's the apocalypse is coming! There will be no talent left to trade! And then, a few guys come along and we suddenly have a few more pieces to trade. Needless to say that injuries killed the farm system this season.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) A move like this needs to be coupled with the end of the Ozzie era. It would be disastrous to handcuff a saber guy like Hahn with a field manager like Ozzie. At least Hahn and Ozzie get along. Supposedly they did not like each other about 6 months ago.
  6. I haven't had to say this in almost two months, but if Steve Stone has any connections with this team, he believes Rick Hahn will be the GM in the not-so-distant-future.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:51 AM) The reason the Angels were able to pull off this deal has nothing to do with their drafting. It has everything to do with their willingness to give up a starting pitcher who was an all-star two years ago. That deal doesn't get done if Skaggs isn't invovled, IMO.
  8. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) The Angels develop talent, they find the tools just like everyone else does. How many draft picks did the Angels have in the first couple rounds of this years draft? That's why they were able to make this deal for Haren. It's because they had 5 picks out of the first 40. They had no problem parting with the talent that they did because they knew more was coming in. The Angels for years have drafted and signed guys who fell due to signability concerns (ie: J. Weaver)
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I will be less of a White Sox fan the day Kenny Williams is no longer the General Manager of the Chicago White Sox. I am so tired of this nonsense about farm teams. Look around, people. Look at who the best-rated farm systems have been in the last 5-10 years and then look at what they have actually produced. The once amazing systems of the Angels and Dodgers, loaded to the gils with player after player after player. And where has it got them? The Red Sox are a very unique organization, and I often hope that we will model ours after theirs. That being the case, there are not a whole lot of other organizations out there that I would want our FO to try and replicate. I get where you're going at, and I'm kinda with you. Thing is, KW needs a farm system because that's how he makes trades. We don't contend for free agents and or hard signability/high reward draftees, so KW needs that farm system in order to make trades. Unfortunately, the farm system is pretty dried up.
  10. Carpenter almost gets tossed after a non called 3rd strike to Soto. I literally have the game on mute so I don't have to listen to Bobby Valentine. What a f***ing awful baseball weekend...and yes, if the Cubs win, that's 3.5 games they've made up in 4 days. Umpires making awful calls all over the place for the Cubs tonight...ugh
  11. The biggest reason our international scouting sucked for over a decade was for a portion of that, was the Wilder fiasco.
  12. It's not hard at all to scout/find talent. You just have to be willing to pay for it. It's no surprise that the Angels were easily able to pull off a deal like this, as they always spend in the draft/international market.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 12:39 AM) There's a team that would want him? There's tons of rumors that teams are frustrated that there's not a lot of good relievers on the market. If the Sox pay for some of Jenks' remaining salary, I think we could get some good prospects.
  14. I'm just going to sit back with my popcorn and enjoy this thread. I'll just say this: hard to project Sox as winning the AL Central when we're below .500 against AL teams this season.
  15. There's been some absolutely terrible baseball played by the Cardinals this weekend. The only thing that would be worse than a Cubs win tonight is having to listen to Bobby Valentine for 3 hours.
  16. Sounds like T. Skaggs will be the PTBNL
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Maybe, but he's worth his contract. It's actually a bargain for a guy like him. He is? He's sucked this year big time.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) I just had a Facebook convo with people trying to defend him for it. I've never talked to more boneheaded Sox fans in my life. The constant thinking that Thome is now a backup, even with a .920 OPS, and that Thome isn't on the team anymore so why are we even talking about this drove me f***ing crazy. Those same fans probably listen to the Score and think that what's being said on there justifies their belief about the DH-by-committee.
  19. Anyone stop to think that Sox didn't acquire Haren cause it would have been too much money to have him in the rotation along with the other main 4 next season?
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) WEell, I guess that's the ole ballgame. A's with one big inning whch seems to haunt the Sox recently in their loses. They can't seem to get out of the bad innig without least 4 runs scoring Great point, the big inning has been killing the Sox. It's definitely what we had avoided during the 25-5.
  21. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) 4-5 Post ASB. Nice. 4-6
  22. Awful....we sucked on this road trip. Ozzie letting Jones face Wuertz when he had Omar and Kotsay on the bench was one of the top 3 bonehead managerial decisions by him on the season.
  23. Wow Beckham, you f***ing sucked today. One of the worst all-around games of the season.
  24. Awesome managing Ozzie. Wuertz might be the worst match-up for Jones in all of baseball.
