White Sox vs. Royals......Goin for the Series
fathom replied to letsgoarow's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) I understand your point that there's nothing Ozzie could do to improve the performances of his starters, but he could have made adjustments to other facets of the team that would have lead to more victories: starting BA in center more often, Mack in LF, and his poor use of the bullpen and Cotts, Riske and Politte. I disagree. Ozzie's reluctance to ever pull a starter early has done nothing to help the fatigue from last year's inning toll and the fatigue they've had this season. It's amazing how bad the starters have been considering there's only been one DL stint between all of them this year. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) 2 out of 3 to the Yanks in Yankee stadium. We however have had 6 games against the worst 2 teams in the AL. And we are going to split them. f***ing pathetic. And we had to have gifts in all three games to eventually win them. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) actually reality caught up with them I still remember people calling me crazy when I said we needed to upgrade our offense at the trade deadline more than we needed to upgrade our pitching. There's only so much you can to do upgrade pitching, but there are a lot of offensive options that we could have looked into. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Guys like Rodgers, Moyer, Redman, whatever want right handers to pull their weak ass fastball on the outside corner to the SS and 3rd baseman. To beat this type of pitcher, either they have to make mistakes over the middle, or you have to go oppo on it. But going oppo would cause Gregs head to explode. How about the fact that Thome used to be a 2nd half player, and has been a disappointment in the 2nd half this year? Meanwhile, Frank Thomas is on a team notorious for being amazing in the 2nd half, and he's going nuts. -

QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Ozzie managed the same way last year. This year the pitching, for the most part, sucks. All of the adjustments in the world aren't going to change that. My grandma could have managed last year's team to a good record. Last year, he was more concerned with putting the best defense on the field. This year, it's opposite. Last year, he managed according to his gut. This year, he's all about match-ups. -

Am I allowed to say that this team has quit on Ozzie? Also, does anyone know what our record is since the comment made about Mariotti? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) How about the team. Can we worry about the team getting the W, I could care less which pitcher gets the W as long as we do. He was being sarcastic. -

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) It's sad. We've been saying this for about the last 5 months, yet he has still not made the adjustments. That's all the game of baseball is...adjustments...when you don't make them..you f***ING suck. Hence, the performance we've seen from the 2006 White Sox in the second half. That's actually a great point about adjustments. Ozzie's idiotic quotes in today's paper show just how stupid he is. We should thank our lucky starts every night that our starting pitching got on a roll in the playoffs. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) I disagree. You have to give them the chance at the W. Tom Kelly disagrees with you. -

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Hey, if the Sox can't win this game, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. They may still back into them, but that doesn't mean they deserve to be there. Now let's show we belong and win this freakin' game! It's almost impossible for us to back into the playoffs the way our schedule is. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Like clockwork, here comes the 5 runs. Between our crappy pitching staff, our goof of a manager who doesnt make adjustments, and our pathetic hitting this team is pathetic right now. I pray that Ozzie quits after this year. -

I really love a manager who's more concerned with his starter getting the win than he is giving the team the best shot to win. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) We keep firing a guy, and then hiring someone else from the minors that preaches the same philosophy. Its stupid. We'd just hire another buddy of Ozzie who would have no responsibility for his piss-poor decisions. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) just pitches around kong with full confidence that no one else is going to touch him. defending world champs. On the verge of finishing the season 11-8 against the worst team in the entire league. You have to love a lineup with your best player, Dye, has no protection in the 4 spot behind him. What's the chances of the typical Garcia 5 run start? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Next time we get a hitting coach, get someone from an organization that preaches OBP, and line drive swings. We keep dipping into our system that preaches swing for the fences. f***ing sad. It's fitting that our only run came on a homer right down the LF line by Konerko. -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) its a shock to me that we are still going to be in the wild card lead after today Yep, but with the way we're playing, we're not going to stay in front. Ozzie refuses to panic, which basically means there's no urgency. He must be the only one watching that thinks this team hasn't mailed it in recently. -

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Thome needs to earn his money and pick the Sox up right now. He can help the team the best right now by sitting out for another week, and not playing against lefties the rest of this year. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) BMAC has 125 innings and over a year of service time! He's not a AAA player. That's Freddy Garcia with his 88 MPH fastball and hanging curveball. The WC lead is out the window if it's not 3 or more when we head to the west coast. Dropping these games is inf***ingexcusable. Garcia, Pods, and Uribe sure seemed to have a lot more power prior to the 2005 season. I miss the days of Uribe having enough power to hit a homer to right center, etc. -
Tavarez made us look silly in that extra inning game by pounding our righties with sliders low and away. We should stack the lineup with lefties against him.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Didn't we win 9 in a row? Didn't we have 6 guys hitting over .300 for like 2 months? I hate when Hawk says we haven't had a good rhythm at all this year, because that's simply not true. -

I've never seen more hanging pitches in one inning than I did in the bottom of the 4th. I miss the days of posters saying that Garcia means to throw a high offspeed pitch.
