03-08-2007 - Sox vs. Rockies
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) He'd have to keep it up almost to 40. I doubt HOF, but he may get his number retired. He's going to end up 2nd in career Sox homers by a ton. Considering his heroics in the World Series, I'd think there's a great chance that he gets his jersey retired.

2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) Yeah, we lost again today. I guess everyone knew it was inevitable before gametime and just bothered not to create a thread. I listened on the radio, and it just sounded bad. Especially late. Spring Training games for the White Sox these last few seasons haven't been the prettiest of sights. Lumsden pitched two scoreless innings against us. -Contreras: 4IP, 5H, 6K's, 1BB, 1WP, 2ER -Massest: 2IP, 1H, 2K's, 1ER -Aardsma: 1.2IP, 2H, 1K, 1BB, 2ER -Oneli Perez: bad. Real bad. You'd think he never retired a single hitter after these last several outings. Anderson with a poor 0-4 game today. Aardsma continues to be my leading candidate for player who doesn't deserve to be on the 25 man roster.

3/6/07: Rockies @ White Sox
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) You realize you can not win. JV sucks and should be released. This is the same as everyone berating Garland. Many people do not understand what 200 IP means they'd rather have the Mark Prior beautiful 82 IP and ESPN highlight game wrapped around DL stints. The guy is solid and solid costs about $13M a year at least. He gave the Sox a nice, real nice home town discount. This adds some starting rotation cost certainty for this and next year and for that Javier Vazquez gained a ton of respect in my book. Jon Garland is the most underrated player on the Sox over the last 2 years.

Sox Lockup Vazquez to Contract Ext.
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) losing his as a FA with no compensation? Sounds good to me. I thought we were stockpiling young arms for a reason I guess this is another nail in Buehrle's coffin I'd rather have Javy at 3/33 than Buehrle at 3/45.

3/6/07: Rockies @ White Sox
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) If Gil Meche signs a 5 year 55 million dollar contract and we get Javy for 3 years 34 million. I would say thats nice work by KW. Yep, I don't mind that contract at all. Even if he puts up a 5 ERA, he's still giving you innings. In today's market, that means 10 mil per year.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Is there a reason why they keep mentioning what Erstad did 7 years ago like it holds any f***ing merit? I like Erstad, but I have the feeling that Ozzie and Hawk are going to make him sound like the second coming of Ty Cobb. I just hope he's not the White Sox version of Jeff Blauser: once a Cubs killer, always a Cubs killer.

3/6/07: Rockies @ White Sox
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) I've said this many a time and I don't see how it can really be defended. KW put all his eggs in the Anderson basket, trading away one of the top young outfielders in all of baseball (30-30 potential) as well as another starting CF all to clear way for a player who can't even beat out Luis Terrero for a roster spot. What a complete disaster. The disappointing this was that many people were aware of Anderson's holes while in the minors. His swing/approach at the plate is just brutal, and I can't see how he'll ever be a consistent hitter in the majors.

3/6/07: Rockies @ White Sox
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) I think Brian already has his plane ticket to Charlotte while Terrero is looking for at apartments in Chicago. That would be such a disaster. Terrero is a bad baseball player....at least Anderson can contribute defensively. If Anderson gets sent down to AAA, it further enhances the claim some of us have made that the Javy trade was the worst one in club history.

3/6/07: Rockies @ White Sox
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but in today's Tribune, Ozzie said that Erstad will be batting up in the order and playing somewhere in the field no matter what. When you add that to the fact that Ozzie said that Pods is his starting LF, no questions asked, you get the feeling that Anderson is going to be a platoon player at best this year.

OFFICIAL 24 RETURNS THREAD
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) I'm pretty sure it has been renewed but I doubt they have any idea where to go with the story. But the show has some great characters. Bellick, T-Bag, and Kellerman are each great characters. IF anything, Lincoln is the most boring person on the show. Couldn't agree with you more on the three best characters. If anything, I think a great twist would be added to the show if one of the brothers dies.

OFFICIAL 24 RETURNS THREAD
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Well last night Jack busted into Boris Badenov's den and did subsequently was captured. Moose and Squirrel should be on the way next episode for the rescue. Thank goodness no Morris sucking down Jack Daniels this week. Something is just not clicking this season. I know we talked about Prison Break last week, but I was real disappointed in the "shocking" angle they tried to take with the President and her family stuff. I'm not a big believer in the Jump the Shark syndrome, but that seems like a textbook situation.

Zook to McPhearson, Ellis: See ya
http://www.herald-review.com/blogs/marktupper/?p=349 Some pretty pathetic statements by Weber here. He has a lot of nerve discussing other programs being lenient. Every time this goof opens his mouth, he embarrasses the alumni of the school.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Aarsdma needs to be more than a one pitch pitcher. I hope this stead display of fastballs is purposeful. From watching him last year, this is basically what you get. He's not very good, and I'm shocked by the optimism some people have in regards to him because he put together a strong stretch against September call-ups in worthless Cubs games.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) I don't think the radar gun is off after watching Aardsma. 93, 96, 95 is what'd you expect from him. And that breaking ball needs work. It practically rolled up to the plate. The radar gun is right. Hill's usually in the 88 mph range. Aardsma is one of those guys who throws hard, but doesn't throw a lot of fastballs passed people. His biggest issue is that he overthrows his fastball way too much.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Gonzalez definitely needs to refine his control before reaching the majors. At least we have the lead in LHP with 90 mph fastballs.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) Ugh, he's getting down in the count to every hitter he faces. I still find it hard to believe he can be a reliever you bring in with men on base, etc.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 05:19 AM) And he said, "He's not f***ing Cy Young" in response to comments that he should replace one of the five with him and then went on to say that he's not as good as the other five RIGHT NOW. Javier Vazquez was horrendous at that point in the season when Ozzie said that. Greg, please tell me that you think that Ozzie disliked McCarthy. If you feel like Ozzie had no animosity towards him, then this argument is pointless. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 05:19 AM) There's nothing dumb about believing that Ozzie's handling of pitching staffs -- let them pitch their game, they are the Starters -- is generally a good thing and one to be strived for. It works when your starting pitchers are having dream seasons. It doesn't work when your starting pitchers are struggling and fatigued. Unfortunately, Ozzie didn't adjust to this one time last year. Between playing Mackowiak in CF and leaving the same few starters in for way too long, it worries me about Ozzie's ability to adjust to his team personnel.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Magglio started it, if I recall correctly. [insert rebuttal of "OZZIE SHOULDN'T HAVE REPLIED!" here] Ozzie didn't rip Politte in the media, or Cotts, or McCarthy in season. He didn't even really rip him. All he said is, "We might've made the playoffs if not for him" and it seems like something he said in passing. Not like he sat there saying, "McCarthy cost us a playoff return!" or anything. Yep, Ozzie never said one bad thing about McCarthy during the last year. Do you intentionally forget his rant about McCarthy not being Cy Young? And anyone that thinks Ozzie handled our starters well last year is just....dumb. How many times was he going to let Vazquez get bombed in the 6th inning? How many times was he going to let Garcia and/or Buehrle have their outings go from 6 innings, 3 runs to 6 2/3 innings, 5 runs because he tried to get them thru the inning in order to possibly get the win. Maybe it's better McCarthy isn't here anymore, because Ozzie's leash on him would have been so short.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 03:58 AM) Perhaps. I would counter that most of you who hate Ozzie or think he's a garbage manager are in the minority of Sox fans as any visit to US Cellular Field will attest to. Hell, I know a lot of smart baseball people who think he's one of the best at dealing with a pitching staff, mainly for his old-school approach. Please tell me we're not going to judge people by the reaction they get at games!!!! If so, then Scott Podsednik is the greatest player in history. Next thing you know, people will say that X player is good because his parents think he is.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) No, not context. Backpedaling later in the day. These aren't the 670 comments. I think anyone trying to defend Ozzie for not being malicious in his comments should listen to the interview. I read about the interview, but it's totally different when you hear it directly from his mouth.
