  1. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Fields can be thought of as a toolsy player. Seeing as he is likely athletically capable to play a few positions. I don't mind parting with Fields however, if we can keep a 100% proven impact player like Soriano long-term. Exactly. Fields' stock will never be higher than it is right now. It's too bad the Nats have Zimmerman there already. However, I don't want to see both Broadway and Sweeney included in this deal.
  2. If we were to trade Pods and some prospects for Soriano (not named Fields or Broadway), I woudn't even be too upset if we couldn't re-sign him. That way, we'd be starting fresh with a new left fielder, and I highly doubt it would be anyone from our system. It's too bad we don't have any real "toolsy" outfielders in our system, as everyone knows Bowden loves those type of guys.
  3. This isn't a shocker at all. HR was notorious for being overly "friendly" towards female workers.
  4. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) At this point with how we are playing, it might not matter by this weekend if the Tigers get Soriano. We could be over 10 games out if we don't get our spiff together....which makes me want to vomit...A LOT. I've given up on the Tigers for now. They're playing just too damn good, and they've shown no signs all season of slowing down. The Twins and the Yankees are the main competition we should be worried about right now.
  5. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of pissed off people if Soriano ends up getting traded to the Tigers in the next week. So many people got their hopes up, and they never took a step back to realize how a trade like this would really work out for the Sox.
  6. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) I will disagree with you here. If a team can support a $100 million payroll, then I don't think you have a window. You should stay competetive every year. The window is based more upon other teams in our division, and their young players reaching their peak. We're not exactly a young team right now.
  7. QUOTE(rowand @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) anyone have what stark had to say on insider, it says on the headline he isn't so sure the sox are getting AS. Basically that Soriano would want about 5 yrs/65 million to re-sign. Also, sources tell him McCarthy and Fields wouldn't be in the deal. The Sox are definitely interested, but it's not close to being "extremely close".
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Worked last year. Exactly...and that was a hungry, overachieving team with nowhere near the talent we have this season. Last year, we needed to do little things in order to score runs, as our offense wasn't very good. Up until the last few weeks, our offense has been amazing. There's still hope, but it's kinda concerning to see the Twins playing like the Twins of old (great pitching, great defense, line drive hitting). When Jason Tyner looks like Rod Carew, you know things are going well.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) I trust that's adding enough to the thread pcullota. Excellent post
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) Are you talking about Sandy Alomar? If so, think bench coach. Yeah, I was referring to Sandy. With our current group of guys (for the next 3 years or so), he'd be a great leader of them. I haven't seen this mentioned, but Thome was saying in the paper how he just thinks Sandy is the nicest guy he's ever met, etc. Here's an observation I have about Ozzie....he's a much better manager when he has a group of scrappy players who feel like they have to overachieve to win. It might sound funny, but we might have too much talent this season for Ozzie to properly manage them. When you have this much talent, sometimes the best thing to do is just get out of their way and let them manage themselves.
  11. The Braves offense is sensational now. There's no way they're going to be sellers.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Won/loss record will never get Ozzie fired. He said last year he would quit if the Sox won the WS. I think he will walk away sooner than anyone thinks. The only way he gets fired is if he does something so stupid the Sox have no choice. I don't think he's lost the team, but these little tirades will eventually lead to that IMO. As unbiased as I can be, it wouldn't shock me if Ozzie is gone after this year. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not this team is winning or losing. I think that a certain person we brought in to the organization a few days ago could be the next manager of this team. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) What on earth could Jon have said? Southtown Sorry I actually got Michael Young out.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) I'm gonna go with what I was told on the matter. But thanks for your info. Are you implying that there's tension between Dye/Ozzie? Also, Cooper was on the radio, and he seemed rather pissed about Vazquez and his performances recently.
  14. Roberto Hernandez or S. Torres are much more likely than the big name guys listed above. Linebrink and Gordon have not looked good recently.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Don't know what is up with Cottsy lately, given up a couple of jacks, but before he was showing pretty good form, hopefully it's just a couple of bad games he's going through. Live by the high fastball, die by the high fastball. It's amazing he only gave up one homer last season throwing so many high fastballs. It would probably help Cotts lengthen his career if he can start developing a 2nd and 3rd pitch.
  16. Lack of game preparation.
  17. The Mariners are in the race for the AL West. Why would they trade their best player?
  18. QUOTE(kwill @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:02 AM) I have a feeling if we do get Soriano we will flip him again. Kenny is very good at filling holes and Soriano would create one, no matter how good he is with the bat. I think if he gets him he controls the market taking the Tigers or for that matter any other contender out of the market. I hear Seattle is very interested in Soriano, i wouldnt mind getting Rafeal Soriano and a couple good prospects for Soriano. How would acquiring Soriano create a hole? Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't see this "flipping" thing happening at all. How often does this really happen in baseball? KW sees his offense struggling, and Soriano is one of the best hitters in baseball. I think some people are making this more complicated than it has to be. Thanks dasox...I fixed it.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:38 AM) Anytime we play the game I think this team has a chance to win. Of course I usually deem things a loss anytime we go up agaisnt Johan, but you never know. It's amazing, but he's the only pitcher who I feel we have no chance against whenever we face him.
  20. Soriano fits perfectly in the leadoff spot with this team. We already have a great 3-4-5.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:45 AM) Absolutely hate this deal. MacDougal is going to drive us absolutely insane.
  22. The Pods/prospects parts made by night.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:16 AM) Again assumptions about what the Sox could and could not afford and what moves they would and would not have made to be able to afford Delgado. I say this respectfully, but DA is dead on with his analysis of the situation. He knows a lot of the behind the scenes stuff with the Sox, and he's correct in this situation.
  24. Why would we want Soriano at leadoff? Isn't a leadoff hitter supposed to only steal bases and bunt? I don't want a guy who can knock in runs and create offense when we're facing a tough lefty or a catcher who can throw.
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) He would have been a rental, you're assuming things. Frank Thomas was hurt in 2004 and the DH, and Konerko plays 1B. He was coming in in 2004 to take over at DH when Frank was hurt, but refused because of his no trade. Frank was signed for 2005, and Everett was back on the team already too. You're the one assuming, and not doing a very good job at it. Come on now DA, no reason for actual facts or logic.
