QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) A third helping of Sandy Alomar Jr. Can anyone confirm the report that Mrs. Everett was looking at real estate in Chicago again?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) His game calling is very overrated. He is no better defensively than Widger, and offensively he will not continue hitting .323. He will hit .220-.240 with the Sox with little to no power, and the guy doesn't walk at all. He's brutal at this point in his career. One positive is that he's good at making contact. That could help against the Twins lefties, etc. Before freaking out about how awful Alomar is, we should all remember how terrible Widger was playing. However, I will be livid if we gave up anyone decent.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 04:47 AM) Eh, okay. Sticking with the Orioles, guess who's back? The great Fernando Tatis. Reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated. I don't like bumping anything before my time, but, for fun, here ya go. He's been gone so long that there's hardly any mention of him in the history of Soxtalk. Hurry to your waiver wire before it's too late!!! I saw him in the minors, and he has shrunk so much. I wonder why that is? Also, Brad Radke announced he'll retire after this year.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) He is hitting .323 this year including a .500 spot against lefties. I could care less if he is 70, if he can put the ball in play fairly once and a while and call a decent game, he is an upgrade over widger. Yeah, we just went from a terrible back-up to a very bad back-up. One of the most underrated players on the Tigers this year has been Vance Wilson. He's had a ton of big hits for them, and he calls a very good game. M. Redmond has also been a tremendous back-up for the Twins this year.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) its a back up catcher, they play like once a week. More than half of his ABs the rest of the way will be against the likes of Santana, Liriano, Sabathia, and Rogers.
-
Good news....the Dodgers were 1-12 when he started this year.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I don't even think its an upgrade. Alomar is done. What's with KW's fetish of acquiring guys named Alomar during the season? Sandy has hit alright this season with no power, but he always tails off, and you might as well have Carlton Fisk's statue behind the plate. Yep, I agree it's not really an upgrade. Oh well...lets hope this isn't the only move we make.

I'm sure he'll crush Santana on Tuesday night.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Per Rongey, it's Sandy Alomar Jr. Ugh. We better not have given up anyone good for him.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Gerald Laird would be a fabulous back up, he is a damn good hitter. Why would Texas get rid of him. With everything going on between the teams, I can't imagine us trading with them. Also, from what I've heard in the past, the Rangers have asked for a lot in return for Laird.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Sal Fasano was on the DL for Philly and was DFA'd yesterday. He can hit an occassional bomb. Maybe KW is working on a bigger deal with big fat Sal thrown in. He looks like the guy that Wild Thing K'd at the end of the game in "Major League". The Chicago native has bad knees, FWIW. And I'm with you...please no Sandy Alomar. He needs a cut-off man when someone tries to steal against him.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) I am not sure, but I was thinking Roberto. Ah yes, that would make a lot more sense. For some reason, I've felt all year that we'd end up with either Roberto or Torres in our bullpen. I also think that the only way KW will trade McCarthy is if it's for a player with years remaining on their contract (Tejada, Crawford, Willis, M. Cabrera).
-
BTW, isn't it fun to discuss trade possibilities coming off of a win?
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Also, might as well throw this in here, but apparently Levine interviewed Kenny today and Levine asked him if there is a chance that on August 1st we'd be talking about Linebrink, Soriano, or Hernandez. Kenny responded to that by saying "I'm looking for something bigger than that". Hernandez, as in Livan? I think the two possible bigger acquisitions would be Tejada or Crawford.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Like has been said here before, I don't think any of us will forget the feel good story that he was last year. Thanks, Chris. His bases loaded walk in Game 3 of the WS was breath-taking.
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Widger's a great story, but like Politte, he hasn't carried his weight on the squad. I hate to see the guy go, but we really need some help. Absolutely. Thanks for your contributions last year....but last year is over. I think AJP's recent struggles make the need for another catcher even more obvious.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) Other than two bad innings (Yes, I know they still count), the starting pitching has been very good the last 6 games. We just need to avoid (Javier especially) those 4 or 5 run innings that have been killing us. I completely agree. Our offense has been the downfall in the last week. Even with the big innings, they still kept us in the game against very good hitting teams.
-
Ozzie just said that KW is looking at getting someone to help our offense, as well as a back-up catcher. From what he said, it sounds like we're close to making some trades.
-
The "Sunday" lineup really sparked us today. We didn't hit the ball very well, but we capitalized on our opportunities. Excellent job on the field by Ozzie today.
-
NASTY STUFF! On the field, this might have been Ozzie's best managing of the season.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) I'm a huge mark for Thornton, but there's no reason not to let Garland finish it off. Sure there is. Blalock hits .100 pts less against lefties. Thornton dominated him last night. A shutout would have been great, but a win is more important right now. Also, I believe Blalock has done a lot of damage vs Garland in his career.
-
Great start by Garland today!!! Hopefully Thornton will come in and throw strikes.

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) honestly gload should get the start tomorrow night, jermaine needs a night. I think he's fine...he's just facing a pitcher that he's struggled against this year. He's hit a few homers off of Radke lately, keep him in for tomorrow.

Wow DJ...wow!

Dye is 0-5 with 5 Ks vs Padilla this year.
