  1. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) BA can't really hit a curveball can he?? He can't hit much of anything against righties right now. He needs to be a lot more aggressive at the plate.
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) bad execution white sox. Did someone say execute the White Sox?
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) can't see Oz doing something that drastic, especially this early. I just don't know why everyone's treating Pods like he's a superstar. If he's not ready to hit yet this season, then put his ass on the bench. It's not like he's a game-changer, no matter what his condition is. His 1-19 with no power can easily be replaced right now.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Not for any extended period of time, no he can't. There's a reason he's a bench player. His career line is something like .270/.335/.400. Nothing is worse than when bench players are overexposed when they have to play more than a few times a week. I remember how much Graffy's bat speed used to slow down after more than 2 or 3 straight starts.
  5. Put Pods 9th, move Iguchi to the leadoff spot, and Uribe to the 2nd spot. I know it's early, but when you have someone swinging the bat as well as Thome is in the 3rd spot, it sucks to keep having an automatic out in the leadoff spot.
  6. At some point, you have to remove a guy from the leadoff spot who's just not getting the job done.
  7. Pods is as pathetic of a bunter now as he is throwing.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) ??? Are you talking about BAPIP or what? And, even so, I'm still not buying it. A low BAPIP would probably be due to guys not making good contact off of Politte. I'm just relaying the information about the statistic I've heard from a very smart baseball man. It very well could be BAPIP, I'm not sure. Good contact or not, Politte looked bad in the last 1/4 of our season last year, and his fastball looks even slower now. I'm all for McCarthy being our set-up man.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) That probably isn't true at all. Politte gave up the least percentage of line drives (of the 2005 bullpen) last season by a large margin. Guys weren't hitting Politte well at all last year. According to statistics based on balls put in play against a pitcher, Politte was the luckiest pitcher.
  10. While this thread is comical, it would be better served if the title of it was changed to read "This team blows"
  11. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) True. Politte just shouldn't be our go-to guy in the pen. I didn't have much faith in him in the 2nd half of last season and I certainly don't have any in him now. Here's the last time I'll write this: statistically, he was the luckiest pitcher in baseball last season.
  12. Last year, this team was hungry. Judging by Jenks and Garcia's body, they're definitely not hungry now. I never did understand how little our starters seemed to play in ST. I don't recall seeing AJP play once in the games that I watched. Hopefully, Ozzie will stop with the one-liners in the media, and sit down with KW and his coaches to adjust to the 2006 team.
  13. The problem is that Politte doesn't have enough stuff to K someone like Sweeney now. His velocity has dropped like 6 mph in the last two years.
  14. We need to use McCarthy to help us win games, and not just to get us by the middle innings. He's the best arm we have in the bullpen.
  15. Here's the biggest problem with our bullpen....some of the guys who are supposed to be our prime performers (Politte and Jenks) have not looked good at all this year. If those guys both underperform this year, the Sox have no chance.
  16. It's this simple...our relief core was our biggest concern all Spring Training, and they're 0-2 so far this year in close games.
  17. QUOTE(El Barto @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) f***!! How do they lose two straight to these guys? Their offense isn't significantly worse than ours. The additions of Grudz and Sanders really protects Sweeney.
  18. Well, if this stuff doesn't show the players it's not 2005 anymore, I don't know what will.
  19. If you want to trade a starter, get rid of Garcia's ass. McCarthy can be just as valuable of a starter as Garcia and his 60 mph fastball can be.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) fathom knows. As he showed at the end of last year....oh wait. Yep, how dare I predict that the Sox with a 14 game lead wasn't a stone cold lock to coast into the playoffs.
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) fathom knows. As he showed at the end of last year....oh wait. It's amazing that you come on here just in time to try and make excuses for everything. You can ask anyone in the chat....we were begging for Politte to stop throwing that offspeed slop on the outside.
  22. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) It was a slider/change down and away. What would you propose he do? Walk him?Grudz got a bloop hit on a good pitch and Sweeney hit a HR on a ball low and away. Exactly, cause we had thrown the same pitch about 5 times to him that AB. It's easy to look for that pitch when Politte has no fastball left.
  23. Cliff Politte....the luckiest pitcher in baseball last season.
  24. Two close games, two blown games by our bullpen. SUPER!
