  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Anyone who wasnt actaully watching the game should not comment on how Thornton pitched. He looked VERY good. Tony....I didn't see him pitch, and I my comment was in regards to THORNTON being on the mound. Rather, I thought it would be a good situation for Cotts to try and get the final 3 outs of the game. He hasn't had a lot of experience with that. I do like that Ozzie kept Thornton in to face Granderson though. Politte vs Granderson has already backfired once for us.
  2. You know...as a south suburban resident, I've always liked Curtis Granderson.
  3. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) He pitched extremely well. Same could have happened to Cotts. Yeah, but if Ozzie wanted to give Cotts some closing experience, this would have been a perfect situation.
  4. Quick question....why Thornton and not Cotts? I don't get it.
  5. QUOTE(heirdog @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Anyone worried about an inexperienced bullpen guy like BMac getting overused a la Cotts and Adkins in 2004? They were pretty good all season until they just hit a wall in August. Could that happen to BMac pitching multiple innings every other day? There's one huge difference between McCarthy and the Cotts/Adkins version of 2004. McCarthy is good, and he has the command/stuff to get MLB hitters out consistently.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) K, now its time for Optomstic Tony. Its amazing that we scored 13 runs, 15 hit outburst in Comerica, and our LF and CF have zero hits. Just imagine when they do start to hit. O ya, and Anderson cant field. :rolly BTW Tony, I've been saying for a week now that I can't wait to see what will happen once we start to get more production from the 9/1 spot. I think it's great that we've found a way to win this week with such liabilities at that position. Also, I think Anderson is a fine fielder. I figured that since he dropped that ball yesterday....maybe I could just get by with the comparison.
  7. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) ozzie is very walter matthau-esque (coach buttermaker)... nice comparison Eagerly awaiting someone to compare Jon Garland to Tatum O'Neal's character.
  8. It's amazing that even in a 13 run, 15 hit outburst, Pods and Anderson combine for.....zero hits. I feel like this is the Bad News Bears outfield. We have one very good hitter (Kelly Leak = Jermaine Dye), and then we have two other guys who can't hit or field.
  9. I have a feeling that Ozzie is going to use Cotts to try and close this game out.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) Jamie Walker k's aj, it hasn't happened yet but it will. Were you thinking about the terrible AB he had last year against Walker during the last week of the season?
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Chris, IMO, is better than Farmer. I've never liked Farmer. He seems like he's bitter about a lot of things. I'll give all the announcers credit though....at least they're not Ron Santo. I think I'd rather chop off both of my legs than have him announce for my favorite team.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) DJ is pretty good. You can tell he works hard, and gets better every year. I think it's a case of Singleton's ability makes DJ looks better. It's like if we brought up Jerry Owens, and he had 2 hits and a steal in his first game. We'd be proclaiming him the next Rickey Henderson....just because we're used to Pods struggles right now.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) Well we have a first for the season. BA and Scotty reach back to back. Not to be a stat geek, but it happened on Saturday against Sisco.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) 5-15 posts it will be said. so far he is a one year wonder, he has a 5.0 ERA, we should trade him now, he is a soft tosser, he walks alot of guys, and his contract is a bad one. Here's the only thing I will say about Garland....I would have liked to seen him get traded just cause he had a ton of value this last offseason.
  15. QUOTE(heirdog @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) Pujols and Rolen Guerrero and Anderson I'd take Thome and PK over Vlad and Anderson.
  16. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Ozzie likes to get pitchers their wins. Maybe Ozzie thought it was a little more important to get Jon his first victory under his belt then the off chance they might blow this game all together. This is game 9 of a long fricken season...maybe just maybe Ozzie knows what he is doing, You mean the same way he kept Garland in forever in the first game, and a 6 run Sox lead turned into a 4 run loss? I'd hope Ozzie is confident enough in Garland's stuff that he knows he'll have plenty of more opportunities for the win in his 30+ other starts.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Single to left. Pods overran the ball, leaving it behind and allowing the hitter go to second. He's quite the well-rounded player, isn't he?
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) I have a bad feeling that Ozzie leaving Garland out there to long is going to burn us. Yep....it's called momentum. That 5th inning gave the Tigers hope in this game.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) 10-8. Is that going to be un-earned? What happened?
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) If he proved he can compete at the major league level, why the eff would you pull him with an 8 run lead? I never said pull him with an 8 run lead. I think when it got to be 10-6, that's when he should have been pulled. The thing is, there shouldn't be any reason to argue. It's simply awful that Garland has been able to coast with these two huge leads he's had so far this year.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) So you give up on a guy after 1 1/2 starts? ? This is Ozzie's style: here's the ball, you get yourself in a mess, you're gonna have to pitch out of it, I'm not bailing your ass out, now go get it done, I'll be in the dugout, see you in the 9th. Garland's not some rookie. He proved last year that he can compete at the MLB level. However, you're doing your team a disservice by keeping him in the game when it's obvious that he has nothing in the tank TODAY!
