  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) He has made this team, made up of average offensive players, and put them in a position to have the best record in the AL. To me, that is not even close to fireable, and mentioning it is downright ignorant. IF this team blows a 15 game lead with 2 months left, then either KW or Ozzie will be let go. Will KW try to fire Ozzie first before he becomes the scapegoat? It could become a battle between two very strong personalities. However, I hope it never gets to that, and this team makes the playoffs.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Yes, because only really good ballplayers are managers...... When he made the same decisions in the first half of the season, his moves were called genius, whats the difference now? I don't think anyone was about ready to call Ozzie a genius. I wasn't saying it, but there were some strong posters on here saying that they feared Ozzie's decisions were really going to hurt us in crucial games (when the playoffs were thought to be a lock). And for all the love the players are supposed to have for Ozzie, it doesn't seem like they're all getting along too well right now. My hope is he goes to Florida, an the Sox bring in Pinella, Torre, or Steve Stone.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) If you still insist Ozzie is responsible for Garland's turnaround, then tell me what did he do to Marte? It took one game for Guillen to start screwing over Marte, and he's never been the same since. Those two have never clicked, and I'm guessing Marte will have a stellar season next year somewhere else. I just hope we get good value for him.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Good for your opinion. I trust Ozzie's judgement in that situation. I think there may have been better options. But ozzie knows more about baseball than you do. he has played longer, knows the team better, and goes on that. In fact, if he chose to pinch hit Garland in that situation, he would still know more about baseball than you. I hate that freaking argument. It's the same as the one "if you know so much, then why aren't you managing?" Well, Ozzie had the athletic ability to be a baseball player in the majors, and 99 pct of the world didn't. If he has so much baseball knowledge, then why are other people that played the game completely baffled by the decisions he's making? Ozzie is a cheerleader, but he's the worst in-game manager you'll ever see. With the team slumping, we needed his guidance to rally this team down the stretch. Are you satisfied with how he's been managing the last month or so?
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Frankly, if this argument was about last night, he was the last person I would want in that situation. He is a notorius first ball swinger, and with the bases loaded, you want to at least try and work the count. I want a guy to come up and get a hit. Blum was our 5th best option in that situation last night. The guy has never been a very good ph.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) PODS? Your first half MVP?? Everyone was slurping this guy until this slide. Who is your lead off hitter than you are bring in then? I love how quickly everyone can turn on this team, when you were all singing their praises as the best white sox team ever in the first half. Boy, I'd hate to be your friends, one time I would let you down and you would abandon me. It has less to do with Pods play, and more to do with Rowand. For the sake of our offense, there should only be one of them in the outfield. Since Rowand is light years better than Pods on defense at a premium position, that's why a lot of people want Pods gone.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Gload hasn't proved much to me *AT THE MAJOR LEAGUE* level. Lights out at AAA doesn't mean crap. Again, I'm not one of the Friends of Gload on this site, but he had a pretty damn good year last season with the Sox.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing. It gives you a shot where all you have to do is win one game. A lot better position than not clinching anything.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Was Mr. Clutch then going to play 3B? Who gives a s***, we could have brought Blum in for defensive reasons after that AB.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Maybe we should just try and get our old team back and see how that fares? If you had this year's pitching with the previous season's offenses, you'd have a team capable of winning the World Series.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) It wouldn't be a "Guillen Sucks" thread without mention of the great Ross Gload now would it? I'm the last person to jump on the Gload bandwagon. However, when this team was slumping so bad with the bats, and he was hitting so well in the minors, he should have been brought back. He proved enough last year to warrant the chance to help this offense. However, that's not that big of an issue for me. Gload had 5 games left in a White Sox jersey, and he'll be out of the organization then.
  12. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Maybe we should change this to a fire Harold Baines thread. What the hell is a bench coach for if not to tell the manager when he has left his brain in the clubhouse, or to remind him that Marte sucks with runners on base? How about hiring a bench coach with some managerial experience, so Oz can stop listening to his gut all the time and managing like a ROOKIE. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but he needs someone who has done it to bounce ideas off of once in a while. BTW, Walker and Baines talked Ozzie in to letting AJP bat on Monday. Ozzie wanted to have Ozuna bat, but those two guys told them that AJP had had success against Walker in the past.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) I think you're reading way too much into it. I agree that's likely very true. I just found it interesting that in two different articles I read, it seemed like the manager and general manager had different goals. And as for the favoritism by Ozzie for certain players....I think that's something that's just better off not being discussed.
  14. Konerko is a much better value for 10 million than Thome would. Konerko is better in the field, and he's so much more dependable than Thome.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:35 AM) If the Sox take his entire monster contract, he can be had for less probably. Not a chance in hell they'll take that full contract.
  16. What in the hell is going on with this organization? Someone needs to give these guys a course in public relations, because besides for choking on the field, they're sure saying all the wrong things off the field also. Just shut up and win!
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:32 AM) Jim Thome anyone? He will be healthier next year most likely and can be had cheaply, I bet. Phillies will pay 1/3 of his contract, but want big time talent in return.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:29 AM) Pods is 6 for 20 since july 23rd. He sucks. It's like 6 for 24 if you inclue pick offs.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) Yeah I as talking about how they've played in the 2nd half, you wouldn't expect them to do it for a full season, but it's not suprising what they've done in the 2nd half with their schedule, and the way their offense and pitching has been going. I'm just thankful they totally underachieved during the first part of the season. Who knows how far out we'd be if they played anywhere close to their abilities. I don't think there's any argument about which team has more talent.
  20. I feel bad for every GM in baseball that had to deal with bad contracts from the 2004 to the 2005 season.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) Funny how it all starts with the Batting Coach with you lol. He's been on Walker's ass all season, and he's been dead on with a lot of what he says. This team has done an awful job of making adjustments. Hell, Borchard made an adjustment during his AB tonight. That's something I rarely see from any of our starters. When so many hitters are having subpar seasons, you have to realize that you start with the person who's supposed to help them.
  22. To add to the theory that KW and Ozzie don't get along now: In the paper tomorrow, Ozzie has given the ok to have the champagne celebration if the Sox clinch a Wild Card spot. However, KW basically said he wouldn't celebrate that, and still wants the AL Central.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) Please, we werw ALL was talkign about how great a job Pods does at taking pitches and disrupting pitchers on the basepaths and how he effects the pitches Gooch gets and how tought he was vs leftys.... It's a 162 game season. What the hell happened to him then? I'm not talking about just on the bases. He never works the pitcher anymore at the plate.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:43 AM) What does Pods do that's awfully special then if it doesn't show up on the stats? Since all the girls love to see his face, he decides to just strike out looking a ton so the bat doesn't get in the way of the view that they get at the game?
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 04:42 AM) Scott Podsednik OBP in 2005 - .353 Willie Harris OBP in 2004 - .343 Pods lack of power, BA/RISP, OPS in a corner position, where power is VITAL, doesn't make up for his stolen base ability. Don't forget just awful defense. He's as lazy as Carlos Lee was in the outfield. As someone mentioned the other day, he never charges the ball in an effort to throw the runner out.
