Zoom...I'd hate to see your evaluation of the Sox players then. Perralta is having a terrific offensive season for the Indians, and will likely keep getting better. Who would have thought that this year, Sizemore and Perralta would just destroy Rowand and Uribe in terms of offensive production?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) This is not KW's fault at all in my view. Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing him put on a uniform and manage the rest of the way. He can't be any worse than the moron we have in the dugout right now. BRAVO!!!

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) Don't make the Indians out to be this ungodly good team with a superb manager. They're where they are right now because they traded off the bulk of their veterans while they were still decent and have been brutal since 2000. In breaking up their team, they somehow convinced Montreal to give up most of their farm system for Bartolo Colon, managed to get Hafner and I think Hafner for almost nothing and I believe they drafted Sabathia. They managed to have like all of their prospects pan out over that stretch (with the exception of Brandon Phillips). No matter how good your scouting in that takes some luck. Plus, they decided to give a decent sum of money to Juan Gonzalez, and I'll eat an Indians hat if Millwood pitches this well for the rest of his contract. So it's just luck that a lot of their young guys have panned out? Sometimes, you have to give credit where it's due. They risked a few years of losing and poor attendance to reload the entire organization. They're in great position to have about 5 years of World Series caliber teams.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Dye is at his peak value right now. Alot of Gm's will repeat what you just said. Even though this is matching his career year, and he hasnt been this good in quite awhile, we assume this is how he will be. The fact that he hasnt been injured and has played this many games, is a smoke screen in his injury filled career. This is why i think we should unload him. What are we going to get for Dye? We almost definitely wouldn't get back a hitter better than him. Here's an idea this offseason: no trades in which we get a lesser hitter in exchange for a more proven hitter.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Alot of people may have a knee jerk reaction to this idea. But after awhile I thought it actually made some sense. I think we need to get a little younger at this point and see if our home grown talent can support our young pitching staff. Trade Dye put anderson in the OF. Keep Borchard as additional OF help. Use that money to grab a BP arm or possibly help in Kong's replacement. Getting rid of Carl, Kong's, Dye's and maybe Franks salary, oh and El Duque really frees up some serious payroll and maybe makes us younger and a little more hungry and ready for the long run? If you trade Dye, and have an outfield of Pods, Rowand, and Anderson, you're just asking for an even worse offense next season. Dye has a very solid contract for next season, and he's basically a lock to hit between 25 and 30 homers. Don't forget he's also a solid veteran who you'll never hear a single bad word about. I'd much rather get rid of Pods or Rowand.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) decent relief, which will be possibly restructured next year. Decent starting pitching. Bad defense, good power, but they are subject to slumping much like our old team. So soon we forget how terrible they were. They got hotter than any team I have ever seen, but thats always a funny thing. They have the best overall relief in the American League. Last I looked, while the Sox bullpen keeps blowing late leads, Wickman and company keep getting the job done. Also, to stay hot for as long as they have, it requires more than luck....it's talent! Their starting pitching is very solid, especially with C.C. improving from his awful start.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) R u kidding, the Sexson hit was a desperate slap to cover the outside corner and it happened to stay fair!! Why dont you be a darling and adopt the Rally Crede!!! Everyone is doin it!!! Slap? That was a rocket as all Sexson had to do was drop the barrel of the bat on the heater. This is the type of stuff that Jenks will perfect over time. I'm too lazy to adopt the Rally Crede....just as I'm too lazy to start fireozzieguillen.com.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) the sox had holes coming into the season. Every team with a payroll less than $100 has holes. But he's done a good job getting the right kind of players [mostly through Ozzie's prodding and style of play] I'd say this current Indians team doesn't have very many holes. Good speed, good power, good average, deep starting pitching, great relief.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Yet most hitters havent touched it!!! Most hitters haven't touched his high fastball or his good slider/curve. He's been hurt this season if he hangs his curve or when he gets his fastball down and over the plate (Boone, Sexson).
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Give Boone credit, it was a 99 MPH fastball that not many guys in the league catch up with even they know its coming and he smoked it, I wouldnt say it was a hiccup by jenks but rather a great piece of hitting by Boone! Most MLB hitters can drop the barrel on a low fastball, no matter what the speed is. Especially on a pitch with very little movement, that was as big of a meatball as Jenks could have thrown with his fastball.
-
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) which puts him in pretty good company with white sox general managers say for oh, the past 45 or 50 years or so. You mean 50 years of worthless seasons? Super....I can't wait for the next glorious 50 years!

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) For people thinking that KW should be fired after the season, barring a White Sox collapse.... We fire KW. The end. What exactly does that solve? Nothing, cause we would have the same awful manager that would have no clue how to handle his pitchers.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) The crowd was awesome about this last night. They really recognized every potential game changing situation, and made noise at that juncture. Keep it up!!! They made the atmosphere feel like it was a playoff game. I was proud of my fellow Sox fans last night.

What did Cotts and Politte do to Ozzie? I guess Viz and Marte deserve the spot over those guys!

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) If you think the sky is falling, why stay? Get the heck out! Please do us all a favor. Such a whiner!!! Milkman has been consistent in his non belief in this team all season. He's not saying anything now that he hasn't believed in. Unlike some of the people who are like "f*** IT, WE SUCK, BLAH BLAH BLAH", Milkman is a good baseball man who supports his beliefs.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) When you're winning...it's amazing how good your chemistry seems. When you're losing...well...that chemistry that was working so well? Yeah, bye bye. Yeah, you never hear of a winning team with bad chemistry, and vice versa.

Whatever the Sox do in the offseason, they need more lefty hitters (seems like we've been saying this for years). All you have to do is pitch a righty with a good slider, and you have an excellent chance at a quality start against the Sox.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) If Jenks, AJP and anyone who is calling pitches can't figure out a high fastball when you throw 100 mph is an effective pitch doesn't deserve to be on the field. You can throw 85 mph and get fastballs by people upstairs. I don't feel as if our catchers have done a very good job over the last few months calling pitches in crucial situations. Of course, that has a lot to do with our pitchers just not executing. However, when I see Hermanson allow a game tying homer to Cuddyer, and Hermanson questions why he threw an inside slider, I just don't get the feeling that there's a great chemistry between the pitcher and our catchers now like there was earlier in the year.

Does anyone actually believe we'll get into a bidding war for Giles, an aging player when we have some big time prospects in the minors? Highly doubtful. Also, I'm pretty sure that Giles wants to play for the Braves, and that the White Sox were not a team he wanted to get traded to a few seasons ago. I'd guess that the chances the Sox sign either Giles or Furcal is extremely, extremely remote.
-
FWIW, I have no problems with Brantley. The whole Brantley/Ozzie feud started when Brantley correctly criticized Ozzie's horrible mismanagement of his bullpen in that Angels game. Ozzie didn't take kindly to be first and second guessed, and they never put the incident behind him. I could care less about what ESPN says about the Sox. You're insane if you think any media outlet will say anything good about the Southside Collapse.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) I went yesterday and the place WAS rocking. That being said, the players suck for b****ing about attendance when we were there all year and they have pissed this thing away. It is in our hands. Cleveland can't gain ground if we win. They need us to lose. Go out and do your job. They've lost 7 games in the standings in less than two weeks since the attendance b****ing. Nothing like being focused on what's really important.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Is there any evidence that KW is actually still alive? I haven't heard a peep out of the guy in months. Read the article. Doesn't exactly seem like KW is very confident right now. I usually don't like Mariotti's articles, as you can tell he's always on his high horse. However, his last two articles about the Sox have been excellent.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) The pieces are there for that to happen. Aaron Rowand could be moved. So could Orlando Hernandez or Jose Contreras. Damaso Marte will probably be moved. So KW will be active on the trade market this off-season no doubt. In terms of a lot of money, besides Konerko, it only really needs to be an upgrade at third, DH and another lefty reliever perhaps. It will cost a lot of money to upgrade at 3b. I still have the two highest guys on my wish list this offseason as Adam Dunn or Hank Blalock.
-
KW sure seems confident

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Yep, I think Jenks Heat said it perfectly. We've won over 90 games. We should be adding the final piece or two to try and win a world series, not a re-building process. We already went through that a few years ago, and believe or not, we HAVE made progress this season. A lot of money will have to be spent to upgrade this team significantly in the offseason. The Sox are nearing a time where they have a lot of young guys on the cusp of making the big leagues. I'd really like to see a guy like Anderson get a chance to prove what he can do before he's 26 or 27 and a year away from free agency.
