Beckham needs to be sent down
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) I've been against this idea all the way, but I'm getting close to the point I don't want to think about Gordon Beckham for a while. If we had ANYBODY halfway decent I might agree, but I dunno if I want to see Omar out there every day or Nix/Omar at 2B when Teahen comes back. But I understand where you all are coming from finally. It's simply depressing to watch him bat and make out after out. And that bunt try was horrid. He had to be on his own there, I'd think. I don't know about the unwritten rules of baseball, but him getting a bunt single might have been a horses*** move there. I'm not mad at Beckham for that, just sad at his overall horse-s***tiness. Bob Brenley would disagree but I have zero problem with going for the bunt single down by 1 even with the no-hitter on the line, you play to win and when you suck at hitting sometimes you have to switch it up.

Beckham needs to be sent down
It's been over 200 PA since Beckham last homered. He has 8 extra-base hits in about 230 PA this season, through 230 PA last season he had 25 XBH (19 2B, 6 HR) and was hitting .308/.376/.493/.868.

Over .500 and within 5 games by the end of the month!
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) If we get to .500 and get even closer to Minny. . I wonder if KW will go hard after Fielder? I know it sounds outragous right now- but the SP has been promising. Just speaking in hypothetical terms how exactly would you pull that off without weakening said rotation?

Beckham needs to be sent down
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) But could you imagine how many more homers he'd have at the Cell? Our current 3B (well, I suppose he's on the DL) has a .262/.321/.403/.724 line over his last 1351 PA.

Beckham needs to be sent down
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) Alex has never sniffed the sucktitude over an extended stretch that Beckham has. AG would automatically become our second best player. .250/.331/.415/.746 line over the first 1360 PA of his career for A Gordon.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) Yes, he does. By my math, the Sox have about $10 million or so to spend this offseason and will have 8+ spots to fill. You offer AJ arbitration, and he takes up $7 million+ of it. By my quick math and arb guesses I'd say $92M due to 16 players. With attendance trending downward this season we could see our $100M payroll slashed as well.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Why not, he does not make that much. If he accepts, ink a two year deal. If he declines take the draft picks, put the ball in his court for PR sake. Flowers is not pushing anyone at this point. If he accepts (which he 100% would) then he's going to arbitration, not signing a 2 year deal. He makes $6.75M and would get a raise in arbitration, a 2 year deal would net him $6M total at the most.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) They will not get the return for him. I think they offer arbitration. That would make absolutely no sense. If they want him back they'll re-sign him for significantly less than he's making now as opposed to giving him $7m+ for 1 year in arbitration.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Alexei had 6 sacrifice bunts last year and has 11 in his career. (I have no idea how many attempts). He's a terrible bunter, this I know for certain.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Lefties hit .116 off of Marmol. Righties actually hit .180 against him. For his career there's a near .100 point advantage for lefties in OPS and looking at individual matchups I like Kotsay against Marmol over both Ramirez and Quentin.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Do you support my nickname of the Bust Brothers for him and Beckham? Well I hate nicknames in general and I'm not giving up on Beckham just yet but it's really tough to stay optimistic about Carlos he does nothing well, some things horribly and hasn't shown any signs of improvement, he's definitely in bust territory.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) We lose a game after winning 4 in a row and nobody can stand this team. Hilarious. Tonight was an awful offense performance but gimme a break. Gavin was the man tonight. We've scored 2 runs our last 2 games. The pitching is about the only thing to get excited about, when your offense is this bad most nights you're not going to win much.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) Kotsay should be batting for Jones now. Pierre can definitely steal against him. Agreed completely.

GREAT call by Ozzie to pinch hit Pierre. Outstanding.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) 6 groundouts, 14 flyouts so far this game for the Sox. Isn't lilly a ground ball pitcher? Complete opposite.

A whole lot went wrong on that pitchout and it still worked.

Pierre/Kotsay, Jones, Ramirez to go. Can't say I have a ton of confidence.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Come on Gordon, really? Down by a run and you suck at baseball, do whatever you have to do to get on base.

A hit in the 8th likely means Marmol in the 9th. A hitless 8th means Pierre/Kotsay, Jones, Ramirez vs Lilly.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Then you throw him that low and away offspeed pitch. Gavin's starting to lose command of his offspeed pitches, hang one and you're f***ed.

Soriano just looks scary as s*** in situations such as these, even if he is scuffling he's still intimidating.
