  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) I hope you werent referring to my post. Mine was a stretch as I said. But at this point he may be one of our only chances. It was referring to anyone who meets the criteria I mentioned in my previous post "a group of people who seem to think Ozuna is a known commodity" if that includes you then so be it, if not then don't worry about it.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) Fair enough. I would be equally happy seeing Mack/Erstad out there covering LF, and Ozuna backing up 3B, maybe 2B, and doing more PH/PR duties than he had previously. I think if Ozzie is serious about using the tools he has, then Pablo needs more PH attempts against LHP in 2007, as well as more PR duties. That gives you a little more speed (targeted to situations) without sacrificing defense. Agreed especially since this lineup is going to be lacking speed wise and Pablo is your only real speed guy off the bench.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) You used the word "certainty" twice. I used the words "likely" and "may". None of this is ever an exact science, much as some of the stat-heads may think it is. Pablo may or may not be able to get there. But I do think that, if you want a lead-off hitter for 2007 that is in the organization and has some speed (to make Oz happy), I think Ozuna, or an Ozuna-Mack platoon, may be the best option in LF until Pods' return. And may be that even after his return. That post wasn't entirely meant for you but just as a post to a group of people who seem to think Ozuna is a known commodity when he's far from it. I agree with you though as of right now an Ozuna/Mack platoon is probably the best offensive option this team has, I still don't want Pablo out in LF because he is terrible but he and Mack should, in theory, be able to produce at a much higher level than Erstad alone would be able to reach. I'd love to see Mackowiak start in LF and leadoff against righties and Erstad start in LF with Iguchi leading off against lefties. Then whenever Pablo gets into the starting lineup as an infielder have him take over leadoff duties.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) Looking at the whole picture, offense and defense, I agree that Ozuna would likely be better than 2006 Pods. He may even be close to 2005 Pods, if given more reps in LF. Just don't ever put Ozuna in CF, and make sure it's BA playing CF next to him. In order to match Podsednik's production from 2005 Pablo would have to drastically improve his batter's eye and patience this offseason because from what we've seen out of him over the past 2 seasons he can't take a walk to save his life, atleast Podsednik was able to do draw a few walks in '05. We also really don't know what kind of hitter Pablo is, he's a 32 year old with 500 career ABs and one above average offensive season under his belt, he appears to be a pretty good slap hitter but I don't see how anyone can say with any certainty that he can be counted on to hit .280 in a 350-450+ AB season next year simply because his body of work is not substantial enough to be making claims with any certainty.
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) yeah i feel like he can learn 3 or 4 plays, just as wrinkles to break out. i think we will see it in teh future, i do realize hes a dope and cant learn teh playbook, but he should be able to manage a screen or reverse just like you said Sure he could be used on reverses, end arounds or any other mindless plays that sounds realistic but to expect much else out of him could be a pipe dream, the guy seems to know one thing and that's run as fast as you can towards the other end zone. He's basically the black Forest Gump.
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Todd Helton might be an exception this ST. Yeah, he really seems to be forcing the Rockies' hand so he could be moved in a significant deal some time during March but in generally you just don't see deals involving high quality or even multiple players getting done this close to the start of the season.
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) However, I agree with the trade ideas talk...jeebus, it's February. Pretty much every roster is set and there's about a 5% chance of a big trade for any team occurring, let alone 3 by the White Sox themselves. Exactly, right now most teams are about 10 days from Spring Training, rosters are being finalized and GMs are shifting to in house scouting, figuring out how they're going to for their 25 man roster through the 40+ players they have with them in Florida/Arizona. You really don't see many significant trades during ST historically, it just doesn't happen.
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) I also am extremely disappointed in Lovie and Turner for not incorporating Hester into offense this year. They used him one time against TB and tried to throw a quick slant that didnt work, and that was it. The guy is simply a special, special player and his ability in the open field is unparalleled. They really blew an opportunity to at least use him to draw attention away from teh defense, and I am disappointed in that. I agree with most everything you say in your post except this part, I don't fault them at all for not using him on offense, I don't mean to be crass but the guy is borderline retarded, he can barely say his own name let alone learn an offense. Even with that said he'll likely be used on the offensive side of the ball just because he's too damn explosive to not take full advantage of those skills. If they really pound the playbook into his head this season and Training Camp next year he could maybe pick up enough to where he wouldn't be a liability out there. But I can not blame them for keeping him away from the offense in his first year as a pro.
  9. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) I'd move Broadway and Heath Miller to TB for Crawford or Baldelli, then we can flip BA to Florida for some pitching, maybe Olsen or Sanchez(pipedream) or a couple of power arms in their system. I'd stay away from Petit though. it would then end up being a lateral move, and if they were willing to part with Olsen or Sanchez, then maybe we could pry away Phil Humber or Mike Pelfrey and Lastings Milledge away from the Mets for Vazquez. This plan may actually improve our team. I really don't think the Steelers would go for that.
  10. 1) What format you prefer playing - Head to Head 2) Your relative level of experience - Very Experienced 3) Your league preference - I was in Leagues 1 and 5 last year so I guess those 2. 4) Whether or not you are willing to be a league commisioner - If you need a commish, I'd be happy to run a league.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) They have too many outfielders already. -- I can't predict anything for Podsednik except that he'll be our most criticized player unless Uribe comes back real out of shape but even then I don't think he'll reach the contempt of Podsednik. I'll bet he has an okay year. Seeing as how Pods has gotten a near pass from a lot of fans for last season I really don't see him being any more closely scrutinized than say Mark Buehrle, Jim Thome or Javier Vazquez. I do foresee him catching more s*** for his below average production this season he does however have the built in excuse of his offseason groin surgery and the backing of the organization.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) damn boy just asking There was no volatility in my answer.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Why is this in the white sox section and not in the general baseball? Well there's what, 4 or 5 active threads in PHT? Why not leave it here?
  14. Sadly it will be Darin Erstad. Mackowiak and Iguchi are likely better candidates but we'll be seeing a lot of Darin in the leadoff spot this season.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) i dont wish i know i am. I could come up with at least 20 people more hated than you, perhaps you piss people off with your college athletics talk but you're not nearly as hated as you think you are.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) The most hated poster on soxtalk HA! You wish.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Good read, got me up-to-snuff on some of the situation. The whole Baseball Network angle is new to me. I think it is an interesting idea, but not sure MLB could pull it off. Yeah, I think NFL Network is quality and well done, but the NFL has shown FAR greater leadership than MLB. I just think MLB's attempt at a network will turn into a cluster. If they at least show a good amount classic games, especially early 90's and 80's games it will be a huge success in my eyes. As of right now there's NOWHERE to go for classic baseball games. I'd also love replays of some of the weeks best games similar to what the NFL Network does, I don't have much use for original programming and fantasy news frankly because I don't respect the opinion of most of the analysts out there. It would be great to have place to go on TV for immediate scores on scroll and instant highlights of the day's games. If they wanted to they could make the network unbelievable but I do agree with you Uncle Bud and Co. will likely f*** it up.
  18. I love how Dick's sporting goods is now taunting me with their radio ads. They are the home for all your Bears Super Bowl celebration gear, I can now own all the s*** I saw my favorite Bears players wear as they celebrated after winning super bowl XLI. CONGRATULATIONS CHICAGO BEARS WINNERS OF SUPER BOWL XLI!! Well f*** you too Dick's.
  19. Nothing real new here but Variety came out with an article yesterday on this very subject and they do include some interesting tidbits. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111795857...yid=14&cs=1
  20. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) How good is the quality of picture with computer to TV?? Poor. It doesn't help that MLB.tv isn't very good quality either.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) Add in some of this too Windchills made it feel like 30 below zero. God I hate winter. Yeah appearantly it's 25 below with wind chill right now, I really can't take this.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) I know people don't like to blame one person for a loss but Rex was with out a doubt the main reason the Bears lost this game. The Bears defense wasn't great at all but they were keeping the Bears in the game before Rex completely gave Indy the game. I mean Rex had 3 turnovers, he was absolutely pathetic. I really wish the offensive line could have stepped up instead of playing like b****es but yeah Rex was pretty horrible. It just proves once and for all that if you get even a decent pass rush against Grossman and get in his face a little he will make some big time mistakes. Even with that though this defense is supposed to be better than that, if they tackle even a little yesterday they still would have had a chance even with Rex throwing the ball up to Colts DBs.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 07:05 AM) It was 10 BELOW zero when I left today. It's currently 11 below in Streamwood, that's 9:20 with full sun and not taking into effect wind, 11 below. This is completely out of control.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 4, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) I found the same thing, I thought I remembered reading that as one of the excuses given for not using the shotgun. Guess not I'm pretty sure it's just the way Ron Turner runs his offense, he doesn't like running the shotgun. Kreutz and Grossman have both said recently that they don't mind using it so I suppose it comes down to Turner and his system.
