Larry the Cable Guy's real name is Dan Whitney. He attended a private school in Nebraska until the age of 16. This video is of Dan Whitney, long before he realized that he would never get anywhere with his "Grandma dragging her wet ass on the carpet" routine, and long before he changed his name, look, accent, attitude and material to pander to southern audiences that didn't realize he was just insulting them. Git R' Done!

^^^ How beautiful is that?

Anyone thinking we won't make a move at all?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) BMAC is not really that huge of a bullpen arm. He isnt the most effective rightly, nor the most important arm out there. You want to move him into the rotation? Fine. That just means Riske gets more appearences, which is great. Ugh, Rike would not get more appearances, the move of McCarthy to the rotaton would be predicated on the addition of a righty setup man who could be relied upon (*cough*linbrink*cough). Brandon McCarthy is a starting pitcher and probably the 3rd or 4th best one we have right now. David Riske has proven over his past few years with Cleveland that he can not be relied upon as a setupman, that's why he generally pitches in middle relief. -
Could This Be a Solution to the Pitching Problem?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Exactly what I think, though I wouldn't cry if either one is traded. I wish they would do what someone said in trade winds. Trade Garcia for Heilman and a prospect, trade Fields for Linebrink, and then let McCarthy start while Heilman can be the swingman in the pen. That's pretty much my dream scenerio, if that were to go down I'd feel so much better about this team's chances down the stretch and in the playoffs. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I consider Ozuna in LF much worse than Mackowiak in CF, but thats just me. And Anderson is MUCH better in CF than Podsednik is in LF. I'd say the defensive downgrade between Podsednik to Ozuna is almost unnoticable compared to how huge it is to have a 3B/LF/RF in CF (it is the #1 or #2 most important defensive position.) -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Why is the lineup awful, Podsednik hasn't been doing much in this series anyways. I would rather have Ozuna in the lineup vs. Rogers than Mackowiak. I would definitely have Pierzynski in there though, even though it's a day after nite game. Pierzynski really brings the competitive juices and this is a huge game. So you don't really care about the defensive difference between Ozuna and Mackowiack? Any sort of extra offense Ozuna will be giving you in this game could very well be canceled out by pathetic defense in the left center field gap. I'm usually all for Ozuana starting over Pods but it just doesn't seem like a good idea in such a huge OF in such a huge game. -
Could This Be a Solution to the Pitching Problem?

How will this fix Garcia? For as bad as Vazquez has been, Garcia has been even worse. If the Sox are going to only replace one starter I would much rather it be Freddy, the guy has no chance of succeeding with no out pitch. Atleast Vazquez has his stuff so there's a chance he can go out there and give you 5 innings of pretty good ball. Garcia, I don't think is even capable of that. -
QUOTE(atrain081 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) That doesn't mean they can't win a series against us, Detroit, or Minnesota and ruin somebody's season. They're easily the best 4th place team in any division, errrr, maybe the Dodgers... The Mariners are scarier than the Indians and possibly the Marlins as well, they're young and fiesty and will kick your ass if given the opertunity.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) Ozzie wants to make sure our offense is Marlinized. Have he fast guy up front that creates havoc on the bases. However that guy is no longer on our team. He lost his ability to be a havoc creator when he had a hernia. Now he is a glorified singles hitter, who gets thrown out stealing about 20% of the time. So in reality replacing him with Mack is a good idea that will never get used. Kind of like replacing one of the twin duds in our rotation with bmac. 30% of the time actually.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) Good point. I don't think anybody is overlooking Minnesota. The Twins are good. So are the Tigers. So are the Sox. So should be Cleveland. The Royals are the only schmucks of the division. Cleveland blows, you can forget about them. They will not be making any sort of run this year with the current personel they're running out there.
-
If Ozzie really wants to get Mack in the pen, why can't he stick him in LF in place of Podsednik every once in awhile? Did Mack not play leadoff during spring training? The guy has an incredibly high OBP and some good speed along with excellent defense in LF coupled with his above average arm. Seems like a good fit to me. What has changed between Spring Training and now?

You all sicken me, especially Willie who's only allowed 1 post per day yet has 2 posts in this thread alone, way to go you asshat.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) To be honest, he's probably just trying to stick up for his staff. I think he realizes they're pitching like spiff. He seemed so damn adamant about it, I think he may have meant it.

"The ERA is a personal figure, personal number. You can have 5 dynamite games and then 5 horsecrap games and now that number is gonna look sqewed. What's more important? That sqewed number or that W number?" - Don Cooper, White Sox Pitching Coach Wow, just wow.

QUOTE(Steg @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) How about start stretching out McCarthy with a couple starts and moving Vasquez to the bullpen. That way you'll get at least 4 and 3 innings from both and after a couple starts McCarthy can start going 6-8 innings. This one or two inning outburst from Vasquez is getting old. 1-6 starters in the lineup with a hit would have helped too. Then you still have the horrid pitching of Garcia in the rotation and Vazquez will give you diddly poo out of the pen. Javy's major problem is his mental makeup, this will only be exacerbated out of the pen. Meaning he'd be completely useless. Other than that though, welcome.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) i really think it should be freddy, i can see vazquez getting better from here, but unless freddy hits 93-95 consistently, hes not gonna get any better I totally agree, I guess I was just trying to be diplomatic by including Javy as an equal problem to Freddy when he really isn't IMO.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) I don't know how you could exclude Mark from our sp woes. Not that it'll go on forever, but right now he's been the worst. He's definately part of the problem but I'm more or less talking about what needs to be fixed. IMO if there's a pitcher on this team whom you should have faith in through his struggles it's Buehrle. I never say this ever but it's ok with him I think, everything is going to be alright with Mark. Ick, I feel dirty. If we're going to fix the spiff starting pitching Vazquez and/or Garcia need to be replaced, that's basically what i'm getting at.

Kalapse replied to Frankensteiner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am afraid that this is probably the case. This team obviously needs a big move to shake spiff up, either in the pen (with Bmac becomming a starter) or in the rotation and I just don't see either happening. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) He's also under the impression Anderson wouldn't have caught the 6th inning blooper Mackowiak missed. Rongey is beyond pathetic, he is the epitome of what I have come to hate about Sox fans this year. Just remember everything is going to be alright because they are the Sox and everything always turns out alright.
-
At this point in time I think you can narrow down the starting pitching woes to 2 men, Javy and Freddy. Both have 1 major flaw that is the biggest factor in their suckiness. Freddy has his pathetic fastball and no out pitch and Javy has his embarrassing lack of mental fortitude. I really don't know the solution to this, if I had to do something I'd keep Javy simply because he's atleast shown flashes this year and still has his stuff. Freddy on the other hand, I have no use for anymore his lack of velocity has yet to be addressed by anyone within the organization and it pisses me off.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) he never really had plate discipline...his ability to make contact has just decreased He was atleast able to walk 61 times last year, he's only taken 23 free passes the year so he probably won't even make it to 50 couple that with his decreased batting average and you have a Vlad who is a shell of his former self.
