QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) 2003 was my first season watching baseball and cheering for a team. 2004 was my first year being a diehard White Sox fan. Ok, I figured you'd have to be a fairly new MLB fan to not know of Jeff Nelson.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) Hahaha, you're new avy is hilarious. Didn't mean to offend anyone about the Nelson guy, I just have no idea who he is. This is a very serious question, did you just start watching baseball this year?
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) So, is this Nelson guy going to be effective do you think? Or just another Montero/Logan? Jeff Nelson has been one of the most successful middle relievers in the history of the game, he has what like 3 rings? You never compare Jeff to that garbage. 3 Flyouts.

Hmm, 2 very high popups induced by Javy early.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) I predict a perfect game from Javy Vazquez tonight. Go home.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) If Garland hit the FA market after last year, or even this year, how much do you think he would make? Wait, since most teams would have overpaid for him after his only real good career year that means he's earning his money?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Rock should be at 1B as one of the best and most knowledgeable base stealers of all time. He had 808 career swipes which is out of control. It really doesn't matter, a firstbase coach doesn't really do anything anyway.
-
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Are we confusing things here. Harold is at first this year. Rock was at first last year. But Harold was not at first the last few games. Harold just signed a 3-year extension, Rock did not. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...rtswhitesox-hed Yeah, I had it the other way around, Raines wanted to spend the year on the bench before he moves on.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Do many pitchers earn their salary? Its easily the most overpaid position in sports. Of course comparative to what some pitchers (AJ Burnett, etc) are starting to get these days, his salary is somewhat a bargain. It is in no way, shape or form "a bargain" I really don't give a s*** how much Burnett's overpaid ass is making that doesn't mean Garland is fairly paid for his production.
-
This is Harold's last year with the Sox as a coach, he wanted to spend the season on the field before he goes.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) You are proving to be a bandwagon jumper, congrats. I'm unimpressed with Garland and am quite frustrated with his performance thus far this year. Just wondering if you consider me to be a bandwagon jumper?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Except Hershiser isn't here anymore. Is that why he's working for BBTN?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) I'm not saying D-Train is great, but basically calling a guy who won 22 on an average team a gimmick pitcher is stupid. That's not a personal shot, as your normally a very good poster plus I don't do personal shots anyways, but that is simply silly to say a guy that had that kind of year (after being a huge reason a team that won the World Series made the playoffs in 2003). Mark Fidritch managed to go 19-9 on a .460 team in '76. He was the ultimate gimmick pitcher, I believe Dontrelle Willis fits this role. It's my opinion, I just really don't think he's all that good.

QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) What can I say...I was very young and impressionable. I highly doubt it ever comes down to a "choice" and hope that it doesn't come to the point where KW can't get past all this and says, "him or me..." if Frank wanted a position within the organization. I think that is the only way Frank wins out over Kenny...by KW walking. So let me get this straight Steff....you think reason that KW got the job was he was a minority and there was an opening for a uppermanagement position? I think it may have helped a little...but there's no way in hell that JR hires a person for a GM on the basis of race. The man had to have shown he was very capable and looking back, he was the correct choice over Evans (much to the dismay of many). I'm sure Frank "expects" a job in the orginization...why am I not surprised. Horray for continuing to put words in his mouth!

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) What do you suggest? Go out and get another Ace and pay heavily for him even though the guy probably won't even start in the playoffs? I'd like to hear your plan of action. Jon at least treads water. That's all I ask. Keep us in ballgames. You're obviously missing the point all I'm really saying is that it is ok to be worried about him because he is not treading water. You can continue to ignore my posts and say the same damn thing over and over again if you'd like but I'm pretty much done with it. For the last time, he's not keeping the team in games, he's giving up a s*** load of hits and runs in most of his outings and once the offense starts to slump, which is always does, he'll begin to lose games (since you care so damn much about W/L record). You can only ignore his poor pitching for so long.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't care how we win, as long as we win. Period. See the thing is when he's going out there every 5th day and allowing 4 to 8 runs eventually the offense is not going to come through for him. You can't just continue to go with the guy and his s*** pitching just because the offense is picking him up every damn time, he's really not putting the team in a very good position to win and once the offense starts slumping he's going to be racking up major losses.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) :rolly Please....your aware he went 22-10 with a 2.63 and 1.13 last year, as well as 7 CG's and 5 shutouts, for a .500 team last year aren't you? He's off to a terrible start, but that comment is completely stupid. 13-6, 2.54 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 236 K This is a better year than what Dontrelle Willis had last year. This pitcher is currently sucking ass in Charlotte for the White Sox assuming we havn't released his washed up ass yet, I havn't really payed a lot of attention to him after watching him suck in spring training. Just because the great D-Train has 1 very good year does not mean he's a great pitcher like you and others make him out to be. Also, your stupid f***ing comments that you're throwing into every post like this one where you call someones opinion stupid are getting very tiresome.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) No, I'm saying that while with all the b****ing and complaining, he still has a winning record and has at least 3 good games. I'll take that over going through the Jason Grilli's of the world. I admitted that his BAA is pretty bad. His WHIP is mediocre, but there are pitchers that have a lot worse ones this his. Garland is not getting payed 5th starter money and does not have the same expectations on him as a 5th starter. Just because we've had s***ty pitching in the past doesn't mean Garland can continue to get by with s*** performance after s*** performance but never lose because this team is capable of going out and putting up 6 runs for him.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) You said his WHIP is worse than Marte's. Well that would be because Marte's a reliever and Garland's a starter. Usually, if your name isn't Johan, your WHIP is going to be worse than a reliever. BAA isn't good. ERA also isn't the best stat. 3-2 shows me that he's still winning. I'm not concerned. As long as he keeps us in games against the crappy teams, that's all I ask for. I'll let Contreras do the dominating. I'm sorry this post confuses me, did you just say that the best way to evaluate Garland is by his record? So because the team is scoring runs for him when he goes out there and gives up 6 runs it's ok? Whatever you say.
-
He's really not that good, he's a pretty bad second half pitcher and now that's carrying over to the first half of the season. A crazy ass wind up can only get you so far.

QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:29 AM) Sorry...while I've always appreciated Frank's contributions to the White Sox...the guy just never "won me over" like players such as Dick Allen, Fisk, and even such as guys like AJ and Crede have right now. Not sure what it is...I don't want to come out and say it's his seemingly, "I'm a f***in selfish baby attitude"...because I don't even know him personally. All anybody really knows is what they've read of him in the newspapers and heard on tv...and I've interpreted much of it as being a selfish baby. Thought there was some interesting things in this little piece: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines A few things in here I found amusing...but the biggest was: I could actually here KW say, "Pffffffffffft...fat f***in chance..." all the way out here in Phoenix. I also like how Frank makes reference of himself growing up. BOUT f***IN TIME FRANK...you're only gonna be 38 sometime this year! So forgive me if I'm not all warm and fuzzy about Frank... thanks for your contributions to the Chicago White Sox Frank...but honestly I don't miss you in the least bit. If I was at the game...*golf claps* is the best you woulda got outta me. :rolly

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) So, I've been Joe Crede'd. When I was out looking for jobs today, one of the places I went to said I'd have to cut my hair if I got hired there. f***ing hippy. :headshake

Random player of the day: Steve Cox. One of my favorite players of all time and I have no clue why.
