QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) Aren't they actually the ESPN Thursday nite game of teh week? That could be why as well. They were on ESPN2 tonight.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Why does everyone think Detroit sucks? They have a very, very good offense, a strong 5 man rotation, and some good arms in the bullpen. How can you say the Tigers are playing out of their minds, when we're the team with about 5 guys hitting well above their career averages? Outside of Shelton, no one has really hit above their norms for the Tigers so far. I still think they'll start to fade 12 days from now. Yesterday I just through a number out there which happend to be 13. Thirteen days from yesterday they Tigers start up a series against the Yankees, I had no idea they were playing the Yakees 12 days from now, that can not be a coincidence. So I'm going with it.

The Sox are like 18-2 when I post in a game thread the last 3 or 4 times I have not posted in one they have lost. I did not post in this thread until now, from now on I'll do my best to post in the game thread before the the start of play.

I'm pretty sure the Sox suck, doesn't really matter what the date is, this team will not being making the playoffs.

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) why dont you just wipe his ass too while your at it For the record, I take offense to people bashing my threads. you dont like them, GET THE f*** OUT. I seriously started it, so I can start conversation, how it wont last for the tigers. . Dont get offended that I pointed the tigers were in 1st for a brief hour. We can't claim we were 1st wire-to-wire like we did last year. Thats what happens when you live, breath sox everyday. I get too into it and these little things piss me off. Then I start a thread.. and I have 13 year olds like Kalapse (and his ass wipers) with nothing better to do but put my thread down. screw you all Hey f*** head, do you remeber that series at the beginning of the f***ing year where they Sox took on the Cleveland Indians at the Cell? I do belive that was the first series of the season and the Indians took the final 2 games of that series propelling the Indians and Tigers past the Sox. So if you were going to start this thread perhaps you could have done it a month ago and not looked like a total jackass. The Tigers being in 1st for a few hours means absolutely nothing, until the Sox play their game, nothing counts. All that matters is where yoiu are in the standing by the end of the day. Why don't you go draw a bath and this time maybe you can avoid drowning the people who live below you.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) So when is this Tiger fade supposed to start that so many on here have claimed? Up 4-1 already today. It is now only 12 days out.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Balta, Im sure if the articles said "Cuba has bad records and not even the players know their own age" no one would mind. But the articles imply that the players are purposefully deceiving their owners and the public, trying to make them out to be the bad guys. Well, some players do do that. Others will steal birth certificates from relatives inorder to decieve owners of teams. At one time Ervin Santana was named Johan Santana, it turned out he was using a relative's birth certficate. Also, with Juan Cruz it turned out that he was actually a few years older than he said he was. It's not like players don't do this but I do agree with you the unsubstantiated claims on some players is just ridiculous. Just because Albert Pujols is the best player in baseball at the age of 26 doesn't mean that he's actually 32.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) How does anyone deserve their life being put in danger, when they have never been caught doing anything wrong? The only evidence against Bonds is illegally obtained grand jury records. Do you think that the person who leaked the grand jury records should be hit by a fastball in the head? I think you're totally missing the point here, Bonds is mean and he obviously cheated, he deserves to die.

haha, that would send the Sox from one of the best defensive teams in the league to the middle of the pack and send the OF defense into the crapper. Also the pitchers would begin to suffer with the decrease in defense. So in the end if the Sox did this they would not make the playoffs.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) Chris Getz and Valido could be our table setters. Or a player who is not yet with the organization or a player within the organization who has yet to emmerge as an elite prospect within our system. It's just so damn tough to project things like this when you're looking 3-4 years down the road.

I guess the one thing that bothers me in the end is that people want a guy to be severly injured and/or dead because he took some drugs to better his performance at his job (though this may be considered immoral and now illegal) and is a surly person. If you wanted to you could stop watching/caring about baseball tomorrow and noone would really give a s***, the game does not affect you directly, it is a game played for entertainment purposes. Yet in the end people still want some guy that they don't know, who is working at a job that does not directly affect them to be severly injured because you "cheated". That is what does not make sense to me.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) True, heads22, but at some point, if he expects to be a big league player contributing to the world champions' lineup, he needs a .350 or .400 month to make up for his s*** first month and a half. .350 - .400 is not going to happen, remember Uribe's amazing September last year? He ended up hitting .304 for the month. We'll be lucky if we get one month out of him where he hits .300 seeing how Rowand did that twice last year (.320 being the high).

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) Oh stop it already. This s***bag is as guilty as hell and you know it. It has nothing to do with him being guilty, I know he was on the cream and the clear and probably HGH too and probably still is. I'm just saying that you have no idea who else is guilty of this sort of thing. You have no clue who is on what.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) I don't give a s*** how nice, or not nice in his case, he is. I dont want a f***ing cheater like him breaking any records. The fact that he's a racist, arrogant asshole does make it even easier, if that was possible, to hate him. You have no idea who is and is not on steroids, HGH, any other drug or cheating in other ways, seriously for all you know Mark Buehrle, Jim Thome and Albert Pujols are all on some sort of performance enhancing substance.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Not so much, tiger. While it wasn't to the head, my reaction to Pierzynski being beaned was "I love it." I love the beanball. I think it's an important part of baseball. If a Sox hitter is hit, by all means. That's a side of baseball, and a valuable one. Hit someone right back. Or charge the mound. ::shrug:: So what happened to JT Snow a few Spring Trainings ago was alright? Beanballs can end careers and cause severe injury, if you fracture your skull somehow I don't think you'll be charging the f***ing mound.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Kalapse, you should have started this thread before the game if that's your complaint. By this statement, you wouldn't have been satisfied unless Garland had gone 8 only surendering 1. And even then his ERA is still above 5!! He had a bad start to the season. Therefore your "he's got an inflated ERA" argument will work as long as he throws normally. he has to throw a number of shutouts in a row before you finally put that on the shelf. Garland has shown the ability over his career to have influence over the balls in play. That is, most pitchers allow a fairly uniform .300 average on balls in play. They have no control over it. It often fluctuates year to year, but career marks will hover around .300. Entering this season, Garland had a career mark of .275. He has some influence on balls in play. His sinker/changeup combo yields a greater number of weak groundouts than the average pitcher. He got away from throwin those two pitches early this season. He entered tonight's game with a BABIP of .331. It's not going to stay that high. Garland's career high was about .284. As long as he continues to throw the sinker/change, like tonight, he will continue toward his career norm of .275 BABIP and his ERA will come down. That combined with his improved walk rate, will result in him being an above average pitcher, when all is said an done. or you could just go back to complaining about his high ERA. It's not just his ERA, honestly I just through that out there because it's high and was something that he really couldn't dispute. Garland has always been a pretty good pitcher except at the end of last season he began to falter and was not as effective as he was in the past. His poor pitching luckily did not carry over to the postseason but he was incredibly hittable in April of this season. My problem with Garland has nothing to do with stats, it has to do with him making bad pitches and getting hit like he never was in the past. In all likelyhood he will settle down and begin to pitch better but that doesn't mean that his poor pitching to start this season should be ignored.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I would like nothing better than to see that miserable f*** writhing in agony on the turf. Becasue he's mean? So if he took steroids and was a super nice guy, say made you a cake or some s***, then you'd like him? Who gives a s*** how nice he is? You don't have to talk to the f***ing guy.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Bonds is a meany so we should throw at his head and take the risk of ending his career. Don't you realize, he's not just mean, he's a cheater too!!
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) You don't start worrying in May is all I'm saying. He's 3-2. He's not an Elarton-like 0-5. 3-2 is a team stat, his ERA is still over 6, that's what I'm looking at.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) If he's never played of and nobody is talking about him being moved to of, how are you so sure he will be in lf in 08?? It's a hunch, if he continues to hit like this and Owens continues to suck, the situation will be absolutley perfect for Fields to head out to LF.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) I'm not talking about a free pass to be bad. The guy is 3-2 and yes he's been pretty s***ty, but not so s***ty as to not give him a break for a while. I think some people just hate Garland and always will. Not saying you are one of them, but he'll be Judy to some, forever. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) To set things straight, as pointed above the past between Springer and Bonds hasnt been to good as Nokona noted, Springer obviously has no liking for Bonds, you all saw the clip on espn he was definitely aiming for Bonds and will get fined for it because he hit him. The fans standing up and giving an ovation is just their own opinion, there are those that respect him and those that dont. Hitting a player shouldnt be tolerated but yes it is apart of the game. Lots of people hate Bonds, just the other day someone was telling me how Bonds agent Anderson is in prison and Bonds told him to give the drug to other players (Sheff and so on). Yet when I ask him if Bonds broke the record would he be mad he said no, everyone wants to see it happen, unfortunately for some it is inevitable and others it is a gift to see such a feat, drugs or no drugs as you can see right now Bonds doesnt always hit home runs. Personally its a shame to see all this hatred towards him, hes a good player and a statue will be built for him as the owner of the giants had noted in the TV show Bonds on Bonds for those who dont watch it. Anderson was his personal trainer not agent.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) What is Fields' history? Has he always been a third baseman? It doesn't always work out trying to screw with a guy and move him around. If he's the real deal, obviously he or Joe will be traded. Field has always been a 3B as was Carlos Lee, Mark Tiexeirra and Jim Thome. A player can be successfully moved to a new position, it happens quite often. It's really not "obvious" that one will be traded especially considering how I believe he'll be playing LF for the Sox in '08.
