QUOTE (SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) Forgive me if this has been posted, but I just read this from Keith Law at ESPN: The worst pick of the day belongs to the White Sox, who took GM Kenny Williams' son in the fifth round. Kenny Williams Jr. is a senior at Wichita State who doesn't even play every day and who was ruled academically ineligible for the 2007 season. He's a good athlete and at least a 55 runner, but he's 22 years old, played in 12 games in total prior to 2008, and wasn't on most teams' draft boards, although two or three other teams appeared to have had him inside the 10th round. It is hard to imagine that he would have been their 5th-round pick if his name was Kenny Smith, but the White Sox liked Kenny Jr.'s athleticism, something that was relatively scarce in this draft's pool of college position players. Kinda makes you proud to be a Sox Fan, huh? He never should of been considered at all!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) This isn't a shocker. It sounds like the Sox had probably negotiated with him already and were prepared to sign him, assuming he was there. Usually those pre-draft deals are indications that a guy probalby isn't quite graded out to go that early but the club likes him more than other guys on there prospect list. This pick isn't one that excites me. I don't like corner infielders that don't have power. He is supposed to be a pretty solid athlete and could turn into a 2nd baseman where his lack of power wouldn't be an issue. I just think this selection as well as the KW jr one were very very poor picks. I agree 100%

Can we have a slow down every 3 days of a trade Konerko thread. He is 10/5 and going nowhere!

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Outfielder Kenny Williams Jr., the son of the former big leaguer and current White Sox general manager, has barely played since being diagnosed with mononucleosis in early May. He also didn't see much action in his first three seasons in college, sitting on the bench for two years at Arizona and redshirting in 2007 after being academically ineligible following his transfer to Wichita State. An athletic 6-foot-2, 198-pounder who has been drafted twice—including by the Rockies in the 32nd round last year—Williams did shake off the rust in 2008. He's a switch-hitter with a quick bat, though he has yet to develop much power or plate discipline. His best tool is his speed, which he uses well on the bases and in the outfield. This is nuts how the f*** can they justify this to the fans and b**** about previous scouting directors. How could he even be considered he is god awful. This is really bulls*** to ALL Sox fans!

What a terrible draft after round 1. KW kid give me a f***ing break he is not even a 25th round worthy selection and Sox wonder why there farm system is so f***ing poor. Guiilen kid last year who is f***in terrible now Williams lets just let the Sox support both the families for life.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Like who are you thinking of? Melville? No way we'd sign him. I know Melville is a pipe dream, but there was too many to list that fit the bill better than what we drafted IMO!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) Now I dont watch or follow a ton of College baseball, what is the significance of being a "friday night" pitcher vs a saturday night pitcher Teams #1 Starters always open a series hence Friday Night Pitcher.
-
I was hoping with no 2nd round pick, Sox would combine money and make a statement on a player in the 3rd round for a farm system that is in dire need of young talent. SOS for the White Sox draft never going outside the box!
-
The old draft motto of draft the cheapest most signable guy is alive and well with the NEW scouting department leadership.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) Yes, this kid might as well just stop playing, he's got to be crappy. Right Mark Buehrle? He is not 3rd round worthy simple point.
-
Nice to see the Sox scouting department still sucks round 3 pick is a complete waste! Way to take charge KW!
-
I like the pick, Cabrera days are numbered in a Sox uniform and SS of future is needed!
-
I like it Wass was horrid every time he threw and Loaiza is cheap protection for the rest of 2008 in long relief or a fill in starter!
-
Put PK on the DL!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) They were playing no doubles...another thing Anderson should have known. With Gathright out there, he got to the fence very quickly. Oh well, not going to be mad at Anderson for at least trying. Anderson screwed that up nicely!

I grow tired of KW not taking any responsibility for things that do not work on his watch!
