Opening Day: White Sox vs. Indians, 4/2/07 (L)
southsideirish71 replied to Steve9347's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Watching the replay of the game. Watching some stupid f***ing pitches by Contreras. 0-2 on Barfield, and he throws a meatball down the outter half, which Barfield drives into the right center gap. How that pitch was near the plate on 0-2 is beyond me. And Contreras is doing that stupid side arm crap he did last year when his back was bothering him. He needs to stay 3/4s and up to keep ontop of the ball. When he is throwing sidearm, the ball sails and he pitches like this. On Logan making the team, Cowley was on Sunday morning with the Score, and he said that everything was looking great for Logan but he started walking lefties, and multiple people. And that plus his breakdown last year, had the sox brass worried if Logan was going to fall apart mentally this year. -
Happy Birthday Aboz!!!!!

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) lol, no I actually think Pablo would be a horrendous choice. He would be exposed quickly. They'll come up with someone. I hope they retain Iguchi, but there's no guarantee for anything. It's entirely possible the Sox could trade Crede for a pitcher and a 2B prospect who takes over. We'll have to see. Ding. Gooch can be picked up for a decent price. Pablo is not an everyday major leaguer.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) I hate Greg Walker... Hate is a strong word. I dont hate him, I just dont like the approach of the team. Its not just Greg, its an organizational viewpoint that has happened for the last 3 hitting coaches that were pretty much the same person. I would like to see our organization start in the minors with more line drive approach, and teaching the fundamentals of a solid swing. Work on the batters eye, what is a strike, what isnt. Situational hitting. We have too many prospects coming up with the same low and away hole in their swing. We need to start to take advantage of our talent. Stewart is a perfect example. Greg didnt really work with him, only our minor league guys did for the most part. Look at what a ST does with a good hitting coach. He won the backup spot on the Rangers. He looked like a different hitter.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Well, people are going to look at the prolific offensive teams he has coached and the fact that situationally we were the best hitting team in baseball with RISP last year. Rock were the best offensive team in baseball in the first half, and then like always we stunk donkey balls in the 2nd half. We can look at overall numbers and our great offensive start looked great, but you can look at the run differences between when we lead all of baseball in the first half and sucked in the 2nd half. 2006 pre-allstar break 1st 520 runs, post-allstar break 9th in the AL 348 runs, KC scored 361 BTW 2005 pre-allstar break 413 runs pASB 328 runs Now in 2004 we were an all or nothing team, hence why we supposedly had to ditch Valentin, Lee and the rest. But the balance looks more even in 2004, than it doesn in 2006, and 05. 2004 pre 462 post 403 runs According to White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker, taking opposing pitchers deep once again will be a crucial staple for the team's attack in 2007. For that fact playing out, Walker makes absolutely no apologies. Look at our players," said Walker, speaking on a topic that always seems to draw a little fire from the knowledgeable man in charge of the White Sox offense. "You go [Nos.] 3 through 7 [in the lineup], and even [Juan] Uribe to a certain extent, and they are big boys. To be honest, the middle of our order doesn't run real well, so what do you want them to do?

QUOTE(joeynach @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) Something Stoney was saying today during the broadcast on the radio caught my interest. Stoney was saying Iguchi's form looked pretty bad as he was in between speeds and not adjusting his swing to the pitch. Meaning Iguchi was bailing his left leg like a power hitter trying to the pull the ball and wrapping the bat in a round like motion to make contact with off speed pitches and pitches on the outer half. This is what our staff tries to do with most of our hitters. Turn them into monolithic pull power monsters. Pulling outside breaking pitches, not working counts. Bad situational hitting. This is why low and away is hard for our team to handle.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Hafner hasn't even gone yard yet, and you know that's coming before the sun sets. A comeback sure would be demoralizing for the tribe...just saying A comeback, LOL. The lift and pull crew is trying to jack dongs with every pitch. Captain Cheeseburger might go complete game if we keep up our crazy swinging crap going. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) Stay low and away... hitters aren't getting good hacks at it. Middle in is so much easier for the Indians to drive the ball. -

QUOTE(zenryan @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) yet you think Jose is a better option? oh sweet jesus. Garland sucked this ST, so did Mark outside of his last outing, and so did Vaz and the rest. So really why are you so f***ing worried about Jose pitching game one. Did you really want garland and his shoulder stiffness to start. Come on now. -

Now the pull baseball patrol will make this a 1-2-3 inning. We are down runs, and only long home runs can save us now. Lift and pull everyone. -

WTF are we calling breaking pitches on the first pitch with a kid up there. Why is Ozzie loading the bases on the kid. This is dumb. -

Here are the 8 keys to victory. 1.) DO NOT PITCH TO HAFNER. ROLL IT ON THE GROUND IF NEED BE. 2.) Get into their craptacular pen of misery. Roberto Hernandez and Joe Borowski are exciting. 3.) DO NOT PITCH TO HAFNER. I DONT CARE IF YOU ARE THE f***ING MANAGER. 4.) Our starters do not need to pitch a complete game. If you feel that they are tiring. Please by all means take them out, and that is not when they have thrown 110 pitches and have the bases loaded. 5.) YOU DONT NEED TO STEAL OR BUNT ON EVERY f***ING PLAY. 6.) Mr. Shines, meet Mr. Cora, dont do what he did last year. 7.) Contreras throw strikes. 8.) Ozzie dont get appendage happy late in the game. Keep the magic 8 ball at home. -
Soft tossing lefties with a decent breaking pitch, if they have a decent changeup then we are meat. They pitch away from contact low and away, and our hitters cannot control themselves and try to hit the ball as hard as they can which usually means that the third baseman and the SS are getting their workout on groundouts. Low and Away and let the magic happen is the formula. Last night Dye and Konerko worked over the soft tossing lefty. They hit the ball back up the middle and let the ball get back on them so they could drive it to right center. Then Kong got a pitch middle in that he could turn on and drive. This is how we should attack all lefties of this ilk. Just hit the ball the other way for a bit, until said meatball pitcher tries to get in again and then destroy him. We have the talent to do it for the most part, we have little or no patience.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) My ex-boss used Drive Savers and she got nicked for well over a grand to recover data from a $125 external firewire drive. Tex is right, you will become a backup fanatic after you drop a thousand dollars to retrieve your data. I currently use an 8G flash drive to backup most of my personal data, that cost about 60 bucks at Frys. Backups are your friend. The quickest way for an IT person to get fired, is to tell the business that they lost data and have no backups.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) So, Spring 2007. I am looking to get a new Apple MacBook for my new computer since my Dell is on its last legs. As a result, I want to get a Mac to avoid a lot of malware, etc. However, I want to wait for Leopard to come out as the OS. Anybody have any knowledge as to approximately when in spring Apple is going to release their machines with Leopard on it? Hooray Mac. Jobs is keeping the release date pretty close to to his chest. I would say by the chatter, its probably around the June timeframe with probably some new hardware released at the same time for a big splash. I will contact our Apple rep on Monday and see if I can squeeze a more definite date for you LCR.
