Hunter had a ninth-inning at-bat after the collision, but figured it was very unlikely he would get beaned in retaliation with reliever Mike Jackson on the mound for the Sox.
The two were good friends as teammates in Minnesota in 2002.
"I probably would have cracked up laughing, because he's like my boy, you know," Hunter said when asked what his reaction would have been if Jackson had thrown at him.
Jackson, by contrast, became upset when asked about the topic.
"If fans think I should have hit him, you tell them to come get on the mound," Jackson told one reporter.
