July 28, 200421 yr From the Southtown Home boys Hunter had a ninth-inning at-bat after the collision, but figured it was very unlikely he would get beaned in retaliation with reliever Mike Jackson on the mound for the Sox. The two were good friends as teammates in Minnesota in 2002. "I probably would have cracked up laughing, because he's like my boy, you know," Hunter said when asked what his reaction would have been if Jackson had thrown at him. Jackson, by contrast, became upset when asked about the topic. "If fans think I should have hit him, you tell them to come get on the mound," Jackson told one reporter.
July 28, 200421 yr This whole thing is irrelevant. Most intentional HBP are called by the manger, i think. Ozzie didn't call for it. If he did, and Jackson didn't hit him, he would have been released on the spot, you can almost guarantee it.
July 28, 200421 yr I would love to have an explanation of what this guy is still in a Sox uniform. He can't pitch for crap the last few months and he is putting friendships with the rival team above his teammates.

July 28, 200421 yr Yeah what the hell, he is good for nothing... -Can't get outs -Won't defend teamates in a rivalry
July 28, 200421 yr I guess there's a lot we don't know because we aren't in the clubhouse. The manager is not gonna run the team based on what we the fans want him or his players to do. For that, I respect the manager although I don't agree with his approach in this case. One thing I do know, and this is just an observation, all these little tidbits about Jackson being homeboys with Twins players are not endearing Sox players to the casual White Sox fan. Most White Sox fans I've met since the mid 1960's want a scrappy, hard nosed team that will initiate things and certainly won't take crap from the other team lying down.

How is Jackson putting Hunter first..?

July 28, 200421 yr Good friends, think about your good friends. I wouldn't throw a baseball at my good friend's head, never. I'd get him in the leg or at most back. Don't get me wrong, I would have hit him, but you have to be kidding if you bring this s*** up. I want Jackson gone as much as the next guy, but you can't honestly believe Jackson isn't out there to try to win and perform well.

I'd throw at anyone if i was on an MLB team and my manager told me to do so.

July 28, 200421 yr Where..? I don't have the time to scour the links within the threads here, but he has said he wouldn't throw at him. I know he didn't say "if Ozzie asks he wouldn't," he just said he wouldn't. I wouldn't like it if I was a player and my teammate said this (that's just referring to the quote in the first post here). But I am not a player and my opinion (and that is all it is) doesn't really matter in this.
