Oped on Maryland health care tax on WMT
jackie hayes replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
This appears to be an awfully stupid law. There is no guarantee that health care access will become equitable, only that they'll spend more -- they could just improve the benefits for those who have full benefits now. And what principle makes workers in smaller firms not deserving of health care benefits? (And I mean "smaller", not "small" -- 10,000 employees is a damn large threshold.) This is just grandstanding. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 03:24 AM) Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! I get to vote for myself a million times, right? That was the deal, right? Fixed.

Doesn't mind admitting that he's got nothing... Edit: Aw, s***.... What did I just open myself up to....

Doesn't understand the shift or caps lock keys.

Two things -- First, what a great start, or restart, to this series. And I wasn't even sure I'd watch the season at all. Second, it's so annoying when Fox news's lead story is about 24. When any network's lead story is about their own damn show. Wtf happened to Carol Marin? Carol, we need you!!!

When lost, always drives south.

Eh, to each his own. I thought the characters were great, especially Ennis's whole family. Michelle Williams was incredible as his wife. What's interesting is how the stigma on homosexuality is not really in the film itself, just assumed to be known, on the outskirts. Everyone in the film (at least, almost everyone) who is angry at the two of them for their affair is someone they've hurt -- someone who has every right to be angry at them. I expected at least a few preachy moments, and I was surprised when I came out of the theater that there had been zilch on that count, not one time when I thought about anything 'political', about any message.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 06:16 AM) I freaking love 24. If you guys can't find the actual episodes tell me and I'll try and type of a semi decent post explaining it. *Spoiler alert (from the 1st episode for those that may have DVR'd it but not yet watched it)* Kap, I guess I can explain the 1st 10 minutes for ya, but you didn't miss anything aside from actually seeing President Palmer's death and the killing of Almada's wife and he is badly injured in a car bombing. Since it's already spoiled, I wanna say -- The one thing that's always pissed me off is that the show relies so much on particular characters that the plot twists to get them reinvolved are absurd. President's term expired? Okay, we'll just call him an advisor but make him the de facto Pres. Tony's been in jail for F'N TREASON? Well, I don't see why he shouldn't be reinstated. Which is just a snarky way of saying, if Tony goes from critical condition to functioning agent at some point in this season, I'm gonna get pissed. The best part of this episode was showing that they are willing to kill off the regulars.

Just saw BBM, and I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Or 10 cents, as you like it. (No spoilers, unless you want to know absolutely nothing -- I don't say anything that isn't in the reviews.) It's not that it doesn't center around the problems faced by homosexuals. But the largest problem is simply that they can't possibly be together, and that's a problem shared by lots of great stories (Romeo & Juliet, Lord knows how many 1800s English novels). For that reason, I don't think the movie is "revolutionary" at all. It's one of the oldest stories anywhere, just very well done, with great characters, in a new setting. It was a great movie, much better than the 'gay chick flick' I thought it would be when I first saw the ads. It was the best I've seen this year, although I've missed a lot of the 'big' movies.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) Just wasn't the Bears year. A full year of Grossman will be nice next year. Man did the Defense crap an egg in that one. How hard is it to just cover Steve Smith and make someone else beat you? The only thing I am pissed about is how poorly the game was officiated. There were way too many non calls that went in favor of the Panthers. f*** Steve Smith and Jack Delhomme, you will be on the couch after next weekend. Not even cover him well, just cover him at all. 2 scores without anyone within 10 yards when he caught it. That's inexcusable. Then the no coverage on the chipping te... Ugly, ugly game for the secondary especially. We NEED help there immediately.

God, Grossman loves to drop way back way early. It's like he's thinking of old Madden games, just drop back far enough, then let it rip.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) It's half the distance from the spot of the fasemask foul (7 yard line) so 1st and goal at the 3 and a half. TOUCHDOWN JASON MCKIE!!!! Okay -- I thought the foul was a little closer to the goal line, I guess. Thanks for the clarification.
-
Eh, whatever. B) Edit -- To my previous post, not the td!
-
Wait, they said half the distance from the spot of the foul -- is this right?
-
Whatever the outcome, dumb dumb dumb play by Jones. Gotta take care of that ball down there.
-
You'd think...after the Broncos game...ya know...be more careful...I dunno...
-
How the hell did he hold onto that?!?! TD!!!!

Boomer -- 'We saw why they are three time champions.' Oh, Christ. They made a buttload of stupid ass mistakes. That's what I saw. The Pats are a good team, it's a shame the announcers make it so painful watching one of their games. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) I thought I heard Boomer saying so. Okay. Unless I misheard them badly, they suggested that, then rejected it. 'No, he was just running out of gas.' Whatever, doesn't matter, it's clear as day. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 03:45 AM) I heard otherwise. It was obvious he was showboatin'. I'm pretty sure they said the same. The tv announcers?
