NY Rumors about Vazquez
Have you seen this reported? B/c I don't see why LA would do this without getting Garland, they really could use a starter.

Was Carlos a Salary Dump?
If players like Carlos are so common, then we should be able to pick up someone just as good on the cheap. What fas available now could step in and replace everything Carlos does for a fraction of the price? If there are any, then resigning Timo was even dumber than it looks.

NY Rumors about Vazquez
FWIW, on the ESPN radio update, they mentioned Garland as being part of the deal. And I think beck pointed out, it doesn't make much sense for the Dodgers if they don't get a starter. First damn thing I heard on waking up. Thank goodness for Saturday morning cartoons.

*Official* Clement to Boston
Do you really count a guy who was left unprotected in the rule 5 draft?
-
*Official* Clement to Boston
Not his agent. No way he signs quickly just b/c we seem to be in a rush. It might take his agent by surprise just b/c someone's waking him up, when he knows he'll have a $21 mil/3 yr deal in the morning. If I'm Perez's agent, I'm going to bed early, holding my calls, and having bacon and pancakes instead of cereal tomorrow morning. It's a good night for Odalis.

*Official* Clement to Boston
How is it sneaking in when everyone realizes he's the last good sp in the fa market? All eyes are on Odalis now.

*Official* Clement to Boston
I'm NOT happy about what KW's doing, but I don't agree w/ that. The very reason we're in this mess is that our minor leagues can't seem to produce one starter with the ability to post a consistent 5.5 era. The future's always important, and we've got to take our farm system more seriously and expect more production there.

*Official* Clement to Boston
No joke, I hope the Mets do that. I could watch Conan for a week and not laugh as much as that!

*Official* Clement to Boston
How funny would that be, Kazmir for a reliever!

*Official* Clement to Boston
Eh, Radar etc. Gotta try. What's done is done. (Kenny's not quite done, but he doesn't have forever....)

*Official* Clement to Boston
If anything good comes out of this, it's the fact that Perez was expected to go lower than Clement. If everyone hews to that, maybe Perez becomes more affordable. Doubt it happens, but we need something....

Jose Valentin = Dodger
Okay, okay... He was still, btw, better than Timo in every respect. That stadium in LA won't help him, so I won't say his numbers will compare to his best w/ the Sox. But I think he has .320+ obp and .450+ slg. His fielding, I'm sceptical about the claim that he'll adapt. Despite what Cheat says, I think Jose's tools (sorry, stats people) aren't as useful at third. He's got bad hands, but good range and a strong arm. It seems to me that hands is a more important skill at 3b, and a strong arm less important, than at ss, b/c the ball gets on you so quick. (I don't have evidence to back this up, so I'm open to argument on that.) So I think his fielding will be justly criticized. Good enough?

Jose Valentin = Dodger
I'm not sad that Valentin is gone, but I'm betting he has a much better year in 2005. (And there aren't many people who think your way, Wsf56, but I don't think you're the only one. Btw, for all y'all squinting at the screen, fingers poised on the "y", yeah I used 'em right, so buzz off.) My pet theory is that he worked on the wrong thing in his walk year. Remember last winter and in st he was focusing on hitting lhp better than he has in the past. He succeeded at that -- compare his stats vs lhp in 2004 to his stats in 2003 and 2002. But his hitting vs rhp suffered, and b/c everyone hits more rhp anyway, his overall numbers slumped badly. Hopefully, one more year of work, or (more likely) just accepting that he'll always suck against lhp will get him back on track. Best of luck, Jose.

Timo Perez Signs One Year Deal
I just have a much higher opinion of Everett than most posters here. Last year he had a bad season, he usually gets on base at a much better clip, and I don't know why he wouldn't return to form. He has some power from the left side of the plate, something the Sox need. I like Gload too. But if signing Timo means we move one or the other (which I doubt, but we'll see), then I'd say the signing was a much worse move than it looks. I agree that the $1 mil alone, if this is our end-of-the-bench player, is not anything to cry over. It doesn't help the team, though.

Timo Perez Signs One Year Deal
No, Escobar could do that just as well. What am I saying? -- Better.

Timo Perez Signs One Year Deal
Now compare Timo's post-ASB splits to either Everett or Gload, .246/.285/.338. Why? I want to see Gload play too, but IMO he doesn't get those #s again. If he does, there's no way the Sox could justify not playing him everyday.

Timo Perez Signs One Year Deal
The first part I think you're right, the second part I hope you're right. Frank is still such a flat-out tremendous hitter, I don't understand it when people want to get rid of him. But I'm not convinced KW or the Sox feel that way.

Timo Perez Signs One Year Deal
Just be grateful it's not actually the multiyear deal the Southtown was talking about. Still a waste though.

Right you are, Mr Jennings.- Pedro Talking Shit
Shows you can build as many youth centers as a town will hold and still be the biggest ass in the majors. (One of, anyway.) It's sad -- despite the monster talent, Pedro has become a joke. I dunno if the South Park team could write a better parody.- Another reason to get pissed off
One of my favorite lines....- IF Possibilites
Sorry, but could someone get me up to speed on Belliard? After the Lawton trade, Cleveland's GM said that one of the motivations for that trade was the ability to resign Belliard. Then they signed Herknaknkdekz, but that was only 2 days after the trade. Why the change of heart w/ only one day in between the moves?- Why should I be excited about Odalis?
I didn't think so, but I just wanted to be sure. One of your posts started w/ 'Right, what I'm arguing...' (or something like that), so, just checking. If this is your last break, get to work on getting rid of that hangover. - Our Education President
