It was a b****y statement, but honestly I believe her when she says that she forgot LB was a teacher & librarian, I don't think she was saying that teaching is not a real job. Why? Just b/c noone in a political campaign, no matter how brain dead, would dare say that teaching is a non-job. Although all their students do. "Those who can't do..."

Hey, I love Foulke, but... If he throws it behind Edmonds, is that a strike too? -

What a crappy game. I wish I had taped some of those LCS games...except ALCS game 3 obviously. The batting practice ends when? -

If that were his position, he would not make an exception for rape and incest at all; instead he'd want a time limit or test of some sort (ie, a test for a heartbeat). So if that is his belief, it's still inconsistent. -

As you wish. From 2000, Bush states that he supports an exemption (from http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0002/15/lkl.00.html): MCCAIN: George, do you believe in the exemption in abortion, case of abortion, for rape, incest and life of the mother? BUSH: Yes, I do. I do. MCCAIN: Then, you know, it's interesting, you were talking about printed material that's mailed out. Here's one that says that George W. Bush supports the pro-life plank. The pro-life plank... BUSH: I do. MCCAIN: Yes. So in other words... BUSH: Yes... MCCAIN: ... your position is that you believe there's an exemption for rape, incest and the life of the mother, but you want the platform that you're supposed to be leading to have no exemption. BUSH: Yes, but... MCCAIN: Help me out there, will you? BUSH: I will, I will. MCCAIN: Thank you. BUSH: The platform talks about -- it doesn't talk about what specifically should be in the constitutional amendment. That's... MCCAIN: It doesn't have... BUSH: No... MCCAIN: ... the exemptions in it. BUSH: Please let me finish, John. MCCAIN: And you know that very well. BUSH: John, let me finish, let me finish. The platform speaks about a constitutional amendment. It doesn't refer to how that constitutional amendment ought to be defined. It does not... MCCAIN: If you read... BUSH: John... MCCAIN: ... the platform, it has no exceptions. BUSH: John, I think we need to keep the platform the way it is. This is a pro-life party. We need to... MCCAIN: Then, you were... BUSH: May I finish, please? MCCAIN: ... contradictory... BUSH: May I finish, please? MCCAIN: ... you were contradictory in... KING: All right. BUSH: Please. We need to be a pro-life party. We need to say, "life is precious" and that's what our platform refers to. And that's why we need to leave it the same. Now, I fully recognize good people can disagree on this issue. But the fundamental question amongst the Republicans is which one of us has got the capacity to lead our nation to understand the value of life; those of living, those yet unborn, and those elderly in America who are subject to physician-assisted suicides, for example? -

Believing that abortion is permissable in cases of rape or incest is inconsistent. If life begins at conception, then it begins when rape is involved, too. -

Hey! Where is Al Leiter, aka The Man Who Made Tim McCarver Tolerable? -
I think you're wrong there -- the first time I saw the movie (a few years ago now) I loved it. It was a little shocking when it came out (zombies eating body parts, on screen), and it still shocked me. I definitely wasn't bored. But maybe I'm just naive. Also, I think the b&w is better than color here. As you can guess, I think the final grade is too low. Anything below an A- I can't understand. It's a true classic from a b-film.

What a great bunt by Edmonds. Not only did he hit it right -- he squared around at the perfect moment. Great technique, and I'm not even a big fan of the bunt. -

That was a REALLY nice play by Walker. I didn't think he had that that still. Ortiz hits a hr. (Why did that look foul on the camera?) Pitching wins championships...but when everyone's pitching is questionable, pound the crap out of the ball. Then Millar bombs it off the Monster. Cards starting pitching is their Achilles' heel. -
Just watching the introductions, and I realized -- really Ellis Burks should be counted as homegrown. The Red Sox drafted him, then developed him, before he left for a spell. It doesn't really change what you're saying, of course.
-
Couldn't you just see this coming last week? First sign that it's a negotiating ploy is making an announcement that it's not a negotiating ploy. For those in the know, why are all the Rice pitchers unsigned? Do they all have the same agent? Just seems like a strange coincidence.
-
Then let him say so. He continues to totally avoid the issue. It's an election -- state your position, man.
-
Ask why W does not address the fact that his Social Security plan will necessarily gut the whole system. Then talk to me about ridiculous plans.
-
Laura Bush is useless. THK is useless. But Ketchup seems to be a real b****. Personally, I hate her. But W is either a pure liar or incompetent. There's not reason 1 I'd vote for him again, even if he married John McCain.

qwerty, why would the Cards match up better against the Red Sox? It looks the other way to me, at least Houston has Clemens and Oswalt against that Red Sox lineup. What a crud ab by Ausmus. I want to Cards to win, but man, swing!

Which Player Will Be Talked About The Most

How do we know what Willie can do? Willie barely hit against lhp this year, only 72 abs (and he was much better in the 2nd half of the season). Even in his major league career he's only had something like 100-150 abs against lefties. Is that enough to evaluate him? Now, I have no idea if Willie has always had trouble w/ lefties. If in the minors he went .200/.250/.250 consistently, okay. Otherwise, I still don't think we know what we have in him. EDIT: And regarding the initial question, all signs are that we'll be talking about Vizquel. -
So, would I take Omar Vizquel for free? Yeah, sure, I'm not saying he's not worth a roster spot. If nothing else, he can be damn funny. But from the interest he's (apparently) attracting, it seems likely he'll get more than bargain-basement money. Vizquel is famous for his fielding, but he's much slower in the field nowadays. His hitting had a renaissance this year, but it's been quite erratic in the last 4 years. I think the Sox could get better value.
-
Oh, c'mon, I don't recall anyone making those comparisons. The real problem is that Omar is not the type of hitter that Omar was, nor the type of fielder. One good year after 3 so-so (at best) years is not worth $3 mil a year.

New Yorkers? The caption says he was injured outside Fenway. -
Hey, I think I'll answer the poll now...
-
Good call, Flash! Red Sox pitchers, everyone up tomorrow. Schilling saying that he was done after 7. I kind of wanted him to leave in the middle of the inning (although I didn't want him to get in trouble) -- I wanted to see if the Yankees fans gave him an ovation.
-
But this way he can get picked off, or thrown out on a fc or dp. Hr, one run, nothing more to do. It wouldn't take me too long to choose between the 2.
-
What??? A walk might score, a hr gets you a run straight away. A hr is always, always, always, always worse than anything else.
