  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 02:23 AM) According to Phil Rogers, the Sox are offering AJ one year $4 million. They obviously don't particularly care if he comes back. From my understanding there is some reason to doubt this offer is true. But, if it is it most likely is just a starting point. If you gave Jake Peavy the kind of money he got for basically one good year with tghe Sox then I would not argue that AJ deserves a raise. I am thinking more like $6M - $8M a year
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) It would be really, really nice if we had a LH hitting backup to pair with him, but that's not AJ. You're not making AJ a backup at this point in his career Exactly! AJP is not and will not be the back up if signed
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) For my two cents, the money could be better spent elsewhere. If the Sox can't find a fit, and still have money left, then I am OK with bringing AJ back. I understand your position. I wonder if we aren't waiting to see who remains in the FA market after some of the bigger names get signed? There might be some real talent and bargains left out there that can upgrade a team and help them contend and you don't break the bank. I see another good relief pitcher being needed and bench strength
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 01:42 AM) That is about a $14 million difference there. Are you willing to get Bourn AND give away players to make up his salary, because that is what it would take in reality. De Aza did a fine job and even though upgrading at CF might be possible it isn't without a high cost in players and especially money IMO.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) That's a pretty big assumption, which I am not willing to fully accept at this time. AJ is a 35 year old catcher, who has had the heaviest catching workload in all of baseball for a while now. He is also coming off of a career year, that might require a pretty big contract to bring back. Add to that we have a half of a million dollar catcher on the roster, who at very least, seems to be much better defensively and throwing, already... This probably isn't the best usage of funds for the White Sox. I do not disagree that there is a struggle with bring back AJP or play the cheaper yet talented Flowers. I am leaning towards bringing back AJ. The lefty bat, durability, the proven history and the leadership he brings are all positives. I just think it boils down to do you want to win and I think AJP is a winner and makes this team one
  6. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 07:28 AM) Joe.Crede. Now we are making sense here. Even if Bomber is drunk I love me that there Joe Crede
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:23 PM) So we can expect 190 innings from Danks next year. If we do that's a good thing
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I don't think he could have pitched through it. There were questions about Danks not taking the next step in his development before the surgery. I have a hard time believing the surgery will vault him to the next level. At this point no one is wrong so let's assume it's a 50/50 split OK ;) But, the reports on his progress have been good. I tend to believe he will come back and pitch very well. Who would have thought Jake P was going to rebound like he did? I don't think the surgery Danks had was as bad as Jake's.
  9. No Sox action on the trade front and very little in the way of rumor news. Rick Hahn must really travel under the radar
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) I doubt very much that Danks comes back as good as he was before the surgery. Maybe so. But, I never fully understood just what the surgery was all about. Was it really really bad or to correct an issue that certainly bugged Danks but could have been pitched through? Anyway we all know that shoulder/arm surgeries for pitchers are serious business and you just don't know how they will respond. Where is Mark Buerhle when you need him? Oh yeah Toronto!
  11. Reading reports on sites such as ESPN and MLB Trade Rumors leads me to believe we will not see AJ back as much as I want to see him return. Judging by the contract Youk got from the Yankmees and the one Russell Martin got I would think AJ has been elevated to a spot where the Sox can't compete finnacially. Sox supposedly had interest in bringing Youk and AJ both back but at their price and not the market rate.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) The only drawback about winning a World Series is having people bring up the idea of bringing back "heroes" forever. I don't think anyone is suggesting this at all. You are bringing in someone to strengthen the bench. LA fans may hate Uribe but when he was here the players ssaw him a sa great team player. If we don't ever consider signing Juan Uribe I am fine with that too.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) You could always bring him to camp on a minor league deal, with an agreement for a million or two if he makes the team. Not a bad idea. The one thing about Uribe is that he would be a role player and whether he hits a lot or not I am betting he is still very solid with the glove.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) Yeah, the Sox should use history to show them that 23 year olds that put up a 96 suck. We had to put up with Maggs all those years when his first full season 94 should have clued the Sox in he was no good, and Ventura's 83 his first full season was obviously a sign of things to come. I do sometimes have a hard time figuring out how some folks decide who is good and who is bad on this team. I think Mr Dick Allen has a better take on things for sure
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) I was joking... Maybe so but Nick can play the game. He just ticks you off with his attitude and facial expressions, etc
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) I adore AJ, but it's time to move along and get this rebuild under way. But, I have never heard them say we were rebuilding
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Viciedo blows. Trade him to anyone who will pay now. I don't think Viciedo blows
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) We could always bring back Nick Swisher... Are the reports true that Swisher exited Chicago becasue Ozzie didn't like his showboat attitude?
  19. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 03:55 AM) Flowers need sunlight to bloom. Say no to AJ, it's time to close that book. Problem is most games are played at night under the artificial lights. You do use artificial light to grow some stuff but I am not sure it helps you play better
  20. QUOTE (forrestg @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 04:20 AM) How cheap is damn cheap. I am not a fan of his when it comes to throwing out base stealer but without that man we would be in the same predicament as the Cubs still waiting for a world series championship. We as sox fans have to pay a little respect to him. The allegiance of Aj to the managers, management, players fans should not be understated. Watching him in spring training with Ozzie etc will make you value him more. I would not be surpised if he does resign with the sox and whatever he receives I won't complain because he desrves it and it is not coming out of my pocket. I like this
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 12:27 AM) FWIW, I liked Youk. He was a big improvement and I was satisfied with his performance. Made the season more fun. I liked Youklis too, but not $12M worth. Good for him though.
  22. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) I read where Philly talked about trading Dominic Brown for Alfonso Soriano. I'd take Brown on the Sox. I've been saying Brown +, for Rios. Rios>than Soriano and thus is >Brown
  23. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 10:25 PM) I really don't care if flowers hits like Ron karkovice if he calls a good game and plays good D AJ did a much better job this past season in holding runners because our pitchers finally did a better job. Other than he k's too much and probably won't hit for much of an average I have nothing against Tyler Flowers. We may very well be starting the season with him behind the plate, but I think AJP makes us a better team
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) If the White Sox are sitting on a $100 million salary limit, then 2/$10 is a lot to commit to AJ. Might do it, but would try to draw it out and see what other options are available, particularly if the team has any confidence at all in Flowers sitting there. The Rangers have HGeovannyH Soto and 27 year old Luis Martinez sitting there, they currently have a salary sitting just over $100 million in commitments, and they started the season over $120 million last year while still having room to talk about adding Cliff Lee. Hahn said there is no salary crunch remember? The Rangers can squak all they want but in my opinion they want Hamilton back and will pay
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) Compared to what I thought he'd get at the start of the year, if the Rangers can get AJ for 2/$10, I have no idea why they wouldn't. Or if we can!
