Adam Dunn - Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Winner
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It was pleasing to see the 41 homers with the RBI's and lots of walks, but it was all tempered with a million strike outs and a BA of .204. I think Adam Dunn is an asset to the Sox but hopefully he can cut down on the K's and hit for more average in 2013. Maybe a .250 BA? -
Sox organizational meetings this weekend

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan White Sox organization meetings this weekend, followed by GM meetings in Palm Springs. AJ, third base, rotation among topics of conversation Be interesting to see if we the fans get any info after the meetings concerning team priorities -
The Royals picked up Ervin Santana from the Angels

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) Because having a 2B and 3B who can't hit is somehow better than a 3B and 2B who can't hit? You are much to critiical

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) I think this is where we see having six starters pay off. I have to imagine the Sox make a deal involving either FLoyd, Santiago, or Quintana to bring back a real live third baseman. Pitching is the name of the game. We saw that we needed all our starters last season. I don't see a trade. I see Youk back or we do some tinkering with our own players. Carlso Sanchez and Gordon Beckham switching positions

QUOTE (Wedge @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) I'm concerned this means that AJ isn't coming back. That's two pretty big holes at 3B and catcher, which are really hard spots to fill. http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/20...t-catchers.html Napoli and Martin might be upgrades from AJ, but those dudes are gonna get paid. After that, I don't like much of what's out there. Does the organization think Flowers is an everyday catcher? The signing of Peavy at the price reported may give us a bit of flexibility

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 11:56 PM) keithlaw @keithlaw Hell yes. RT @bill_virgl: @keithlaw 29 x 2 for Peavy.. Would you have done that? Seems like a lot given his age and injury history He is only like 31 or 32 years old I think
-
My hope is that with another year behind him and the injury he had that makes him stronger and he throws harder and longer. He wants to show the Sox he still has it and thanks for sticking with him. I agree with the move. Plus, if in fact Floyd has corrected his flaw and continues to stay on top of it, then 2013 can be a big year for Gavin. Pitching is the name of the game

Beckham has played gold glove caliber at secondbase. He will hit. My suggestion is this: The Sox have moved their infielders around to other positions. Beckam went from SS to 3B and did pretty good in his one season there. He has gone to 2B and done even better. Ramirez has moved around and is gold glove caliber at SS. Carlos Sanchez has been touted as a major league ready 2B or SS but is checking things out at 3B even though the club feels he is better up the middle. I suggest we move Beckam back to 3B, keep Ramirez at SS and bring in Sanchez at 2B. Viciedo moved from 3B to RF to LF. Keep him there.

Manager Jim Leyland to be back with Tigers in '13 -
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) He's as good as gone, and it will be a sad day. Keeping him is worth the money. No one around seems to be one play ahead in the game like AJ. I like a guy who gets mad when he don't get a hit, gives you good at bats when it is needed, and can be counted on to play every day. Sorry, but Flowers does not have those intangibles, and we take another step back at a vital position without AJ. I agree with you on this. AJP brings a lot to the table. I hope we make an honest effort to resign him. I am guessing he will be in demand though. Everyone calling for these FA's of ours to sign for the cheap or give the Sox a hometown discount... why would they?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) The main reason I hate Twins, Tigers and Indians "fans" - many of them live in Chicago, because they abandoned their cities years ago. They attend games at The Cell to root for "THEIR TEAMS". You know, the ones who play for the cities they abandoned to come live in a real one. I loved seeing the various 40 year old female "chicagoans" with their brand spankin' new Tigers hats on the train the last two weeks. So yeah, f*** the other teams in the AL Central. And f*** fake Chicagoans. Xanax time

The main point for the Sox management to take from this is PITCHING is the name of the game plus a little timely hitting

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) You can offer arbitration, which is based upon the previous year's salary, but in order to get a draft pick in return you have to offer at least $13M, so there is no way that happens. Only player the Sox might get a draft pick for is Peavy. There is no reason not to make him a $13M offer if they don't work out a deal before the offer deadline. Who is rersponsible for more wins? Peavy or AJP?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 06:46 PM) After that Kenny made it clear that HE has always had to go to Jerry for any major move. Also realize that this is standard operating procedure for any other sports franchise out there. No GM has complete autonomy. If it involves adding payroll, they are running it by someone else. The whole idea that being a GM means you get to do whatever you want is reality only on your XBOX. It ranks up there with unicorns and Cubs World Series titles in terms of reality. This is true and is true in any major business decision or similar operation. It's good to get others input anyway usually.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin Flowers suffered hairline fracture in left hand from Perez pitch at end of season. Prob won't go to winter ball According to Hahn, Flowers recovery is normal 4 to 6 weeks so he'll easily be ready by ST He did take a pretty solid hit

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) That's a good thing, because the breath-holding record is something like 9 minutes and it's over 200,000 minutes until Opening Day. That's like a long time and can be hazardous to yoiur health

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) this. might as well renegotiate with Youk then. Truthfully I would rather keep Youkilis on the Chisox. I think he is a better team player and liked by his teammates -

I would agree that getting tghe A-Rod is an intriguing idea, but a few years past being a major impact move. I would hate to think we would satrt giving up young talent again for a player on the decline. But, I don't see the Yankees doing this. If it did I would imagine you would have a reenergized A-Rod for at leat one year. He could put up some real good numbers but would it last the term of his contract? -
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) If you're going to platoon Flowers, you need to get someone that can hit RHP. We had better be resigning Perz. I think

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Oct 7, 2012 -> 12:51 AM) The guy jumps 2 levels from A+ ball and almost helps us win a division and yet he barely avoids a B-. Excuse me while I read this headline Quintana Risks Own Life, Saves Elderly Nun From Speeding Train Sox Lefty Hoists Woman Over Shoulder At Last Instant; SoxTalk Poster greg775 Condemns Pitcher For Not Also Stopping Train I love it. I bet Greg does too. Just too funny

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) What do you guys think of the fact Rios and Viciedo drew almost the exact same number of walks? Rios had 26 walks in 605 at bats; Viciedo 28 in 505 at bats and AJP 28 in 479 at bats? I didn't realize Rios doesn't take a walk. Well, Rios had 26 and hit .304 and Dunn had what 105 + - a few and hit .204. Keep it up Alex
