QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Beckham dinger on a hanging breaking ball off Bailey. Wind/weather-aided. Probably wouldn't have been gone at USCF in April/May. Give the boy a chance

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 06:39 AM) How is Morel's back holding up? Can he make the team as a backup to Keppinger? I always kind of liked Morel for his defense. Never hear anything bad about the back, but I think Gillaspie gets the nod and stays with Keppinger

Rios' WBC Game Winning HR is GREAT for the Sox
elrockinMT replied to CyAcosta41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:57 PM) Much more being made from this than intended. Yes, Rios was having a poor WBC before that one swing. Big deal -- too early for performance to count, WBC or not. Yes, that was only one swing. Yes, poor pitch (according to Rios a hanging change and not a hanging curve); and yes again, a big league hitter should crush such a pitch. All that said, being the hero in an important game (and it is an important game for some) can't help but help his psyche. And it's pretty clear that a confident Rios is a good Rios. So, yay ... along with a solid year with good mechanics behind him in 2012, this experience is another small positive in what we all hope is a solid 2013 performance for our projected #3 hitter. A good start from DeAza, Keppinger, and Rios -- as 1, 2, and 3 -- should ensure that the Adam Dunn #3 black hole never happens again! I follow your point. This is still Spring Training too regardless if it's WBC or in Arizona. Rios had a real solid year last season and I think he will do it again. -

I am glad Alex Rios was the star. I am counting on him doing that for the SOX IN 2013 -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) Huh? The first few years? If the Sox traded Sale in 2015, that's not a betrayal. It's business. Business? Ok, but some business decisions are not good ones. Anyway why would you even contemplate trading your staff ace at a young age? We need to develop our own young players and keep them. -
Opening day starter! That's special and a great honor for Chris Sale. I think the Sox have something special in this kid. But, I also respect the support given by Peavy.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) Guys it's close to $60M, quit trying to make something out of nothing here. Exactly... let's get on with baseball. You both win. Round up it's $60M and don't round up and it's $57M -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan flowers out again today w lower back stiffness. "we should be back shortly." Can we get Carlton Fisk as a back up just in case? I hope this back stuff isn't a year long issue

Sox vs baby bears ST game thread- Ides of March

Sox slap the Cubs. I loved it. Watched on TV and recorded it to watch again. You can put it on the board YES! -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) He's clearly not ready yet...but maybe having someone breathing down his neck will be what Gordon needs... Maybe. But, I think Gordon has done his own pushing of himself to get better. This could be a real good year for the Gordo

This is what I was hoping to hear and not something like being uncomfortable or couldn't get loose.

watching on MLB network. At least Tekotte had a nice triple to bring in the Sox run. Some good fielding lays and some not so good

Alexei called most underrated SS in AL

Alexei called most underrated SS in AL
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good to see this positive story about the Sox and Alexei in particular. I always thought he was under rated and could never understand the posters here that criticize the guy. Yes, he didn't really have a year with the bat HE would have liked but he admits it and works hard to improve. Defensively he is one of the best in the league -
ST: 3/10 Split Squads vs Reds/at Mariners

Split squad games mean it's becoming decision time on our subs and who goes down to the farm and who stays -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Even Sanchez's minor league numbers aren't really any better. And his offense might be a question at this time. I think he needs more seasoning at AAA
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 06:44 PM) I heard somewhere that they were trying to get 4 or 5 years for $30m. Wow that's a lot of money. I am torn about this one. On one hand I want to keep our young talent but on the other hand at what cost and is it efficent for the team and has he a proven track record. But, it is most lkely most cost effective if we want to keep Sale and he wants to stay

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 02:41 AM) OTOH SOX pitching looked good. Floyd ,Santiago, Thornton, And Jones all held Team USA regulars scoreless. Sox also substituted minor leaguer's much earlier and Snodgress gave up the last 2 Team USA runs in the 8th inning. I think this observation is an important one and applies to the other games played too. I know it is ST and all but our regular pitching staff members have looked pretty good

Trade possibility - Dewayne Wise to Yankees

QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) I would would appreciate it if you did not reply to my posts or send me any further private messages. I will afford you the same courtesy. Thanks. SSHM. What are you upset about? I thought the response was appropriate. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 01:48 AM) I think his point was that the fact that the Sox scored the 4th most runs in the AL last year might have been inflated by our home park. I understand that too but the fact remains we still play 81 games there. What changes? Anyway when you read these articles they are written fairly well but still have their own biases. For every argument there is a counter. I like the ones that say we are great and hate those that don't

Trade possibility - Dewayne Wise to Yankees
elrockinMT replied to peteward's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) Robin really seemed to like Wise as well. I can't see him going anywhere this year. Plus he fills the left handed bat role as a PH and such that we seem to need. You never say never if the right proposal came along, but I don't like to see youth stuck in back up roles as they need regular playing time to develop. Wise knows his role and how to prepare for it -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) I don't know what the deal was, but the Mitchell I saw for a few games last summer was not a guy you'd glow about. When a rookie performs well in ST it seems there is always that temptation to put him on the roster breaking camp. But, there never seems to be a full-time role for them and consequently they sit. I think Mitchell and a couple other prospects might be better off at AAA this year and I am betting 2014 and 2015 we see the changes happening using folks from our own system to fill the holes
