  1. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) From one bad game, people are ready to hang the kid? He had like minimal amount of starts in AA or single A? He has to develop. Just relax. Get used to it
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) "Jared Mitchell was great at Auburn...I don't know I don't watch college football so I'm just guessing." Is this the same guy from LSU?
  3. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 04:01 AM) Time to make this harder. Pick your ultimate favorite White Sox player. #1, Numero uno. Only one choice, one player. No ties. Like the Academy Awards, you all made some great nominees and now pick your winner. Managers and coaches are in play. This is hard. My ultimate favorite White Sox player is Ozzie Guillen. Like his humor, craziness, unpredictability..but at the same time he loves the game and respects it. Brutally honest even if I don't always agree with his opinion. Getting us to the promise land in 2005. And of course enjoyed watching him play defense at SS. What a character. Whew, that was hard. So many other White Sox players that I had to turn my back on. haha! That is hard- one player- but I go back to my first involvement with baseball as a kid and 1959 and Nelson Fox. My first baseball glove was the Nelson Fox model.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) How can you put Ron Hansen and not Peters or Horlen? Hansen was a horrible baseball player. I did include Horlen and Peters on my original list. Hansen was not horrible and in fact was a Twins killer. I always remember the Twins announcers crying in their beer when Hansen came to bat in close games gainst those Twinkies. Ron Hansen and Tim Cullen were involved in trades for themselves did you know that? Cullen was with the Senators and he and Hansen were traded for each other and then during the season traded back for each other if that wording makes sense
  5. It's amazing how you can leave guys off that you remember playing and liked. I liked Ron Hansen a lot as a player, Harold Baines and can't forget Harold Perry- the milkman delivers again. So many good ones
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) Luke Appling.....The guy could hit. I remember
  7. 1. The Big Hurt 2. Nellie Fox 3. Joel Horlen 4. Gary Peters 5. Dick Allen 6. Joe Crede 7. Hoyt Wilhelm 8. Smokey Burgess 9. Luis Aparicio 10. Walt "No Neck" Williams 11. Ozzie Guillen 12. Carlton Fisk 13. Wilbur Wood 14. Tommie Agee 15. Pete Ward 16. Paul Konerko 17. Mark Buerhle 18. Scott Fletcher 19. Jim Landis (my first Sox baseball card) 20. Robin Ventura
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Don't make the mistake of taking September and trying to project it for an entire year. You hope for the best from Morel. But, you are right and folks should remember the Josh Fields thing
  9. We will hear a lot of this. What else can anyone say?
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,5029017.story I disagree not making the playoffs is not successful IMO and too have the Captain say it makes it worse! I don't see why some see it as a negative. It is the truth yet he isn't saying they already gave up. Realistically our cvhances may not be that great, but time and the production of a few past non performers will tell
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) I don't think it is. He's pitched a total of 290 innings, period, with no high school or college background beforehand. He's barely reached double-A ball, only 22 innings at that level. He only threw 130 innings last year, and that was a jump up from 80 the year beforehand, so 150 total would still be being careful, and that's a full AA season. I really can't see any situation, no matter how much he dominates, where I'm going to want him seeing the bigs this year. If he rips up AA ball in the first half and then gets promoted and then rips up AAA for another 2 months, he's going to be right at what should be his innings limit, where actually having him make a start or two seems excessively risky and overkill. You sure would hate to get into a situation where we rush another prospect and he suffers for two or three years trying to learn at the big league level
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) I'm probably alone, but if Peavy wants to talk about being a leader and making 30 starts, truck him out there opening day and let him set the tone. We don't really have a true #1 anyway and you are only a #1 starters once maybe twice during the year. Even Jake says J Danks is the opening day starter. If Peavy is the #3 guy he may be in line for that ESPN Sunday night game start
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:40 AM) I loathe Hawk. He's an embarrassing clown of a hack. I can't wait for the day he's gone. There are some that feel that way for sure. But, not everyone
  14. QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 11:50 PM) Hawk can be annoying as hell but there are some announcing crews that are absolutely boring. And any tandem with Steve Stone can't be last unless his partner has the voice of Gilbert Gottfried. There are some real annoying ones out there for sure and I don't think Hawk and Stone are that bad. They are company men for sure and try and make the best light of some bad stuff, but they aren't on the bottom
  15. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 11:13 PM) Next they'll be comparing bathrooms from stadium to stadium. At least the Cell should score higher than Wrigley. But, maybe they'd give Wrigley points for being "old school" and "rustic". Plus Cubs fans can pee on each other
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 02:15 AM) I don't care if we're going to suck this year. I miss White Sox baseball. Spoken like atrue Sox fan. I applaud you and I am with you
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Eh, this one annoys me less than the continual attempts to move Viciedo around the IF or turn him into a platoon bat. Probably better to make such a move to LF early in his career. Maybe?
  18. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) He was drafted as an IF and came up as one in the minors. SS was supposed to be his strongest position He even played 1B last year and wasn't to darn bad there either
  19. QUOTE (The Only Swede @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) The spring training schedule separately for $20 so I was pretty upset when I found out it was included in the full season package. Anyhow, with our service provider removing ESPN (apparently no one but me watches baseball), MLB.TV is my only baseball option nowadays. A LOT of money though! That's plain crazy that they removed ESPN
  20. I changed to Dish TV in late 2011 expecting to see some Chicago stuff as they had CSN-Chjicago. But after three months it wasn't in the channel selection anymore. What gives? Lots of PPV type sports chanels though
  21. QUOTE (OldSmoky2 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) Lol... just got the MLB.TV offer: "Watch over 150 spring training games LIVE." But when you check out their schedule, there are 22 Angels games, 20 Phillies games, 20 Yankees games, 17 Dodgers games, 16 Red Sox games and just 9 White Sox games. Poor Twins fans (no, I don't say that often) get only 5 games. It turns out it's not just a spring training offer - there wouldn't be much reason for someone who doesn't live on the coasts to buy it at all if that were the case. Rather it's a pitch to get people to buy the MLB.TV regular season packages, which of course doesn't include White Sox games if you live in Chicago. Nah, think I'll pass. That bias is rampant in ESPN coverage too. There it is usually the Yankees or Boston. But, we get the first ESPN Sunday night game as we face the Rangers. By the way - I loved Smoky Burgesss
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) 86 might be a reach, but I fully expect them to outdo their expectations and then disappoint in 2013. Why 2013? Losing more of the regular players maybe?
  23. 1/2 of a win? This team is better than what we were led to believe obviously
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) 1.) The story I read had Cooper going to Kenny way earlier than the Oz thing blew up. I thought Cooper came across very creepy in that story I read, kind of like the snitch character in the Longest Yard. 2.) I don't know. I get mad when my favorites get criticized in a way I see that is unfair. I've stood up for others who have drawn the wrath on here, like Dye, Wise, CQ, Garland, Pierre, Jenks. 3.) The Oz-KW thing wasn't going to work any longer obviously. I happen to blame KW as much or more than Oz though. I don't think I would argue with you on your take of things. It is your opinion and I don't like it when my favorite players get picked on either and you named some. I don';t think the Ozzie and KW thing was working and probably stopped in 2010. One more year was a mistake. But, I blame both KW and Ozzie for it. They just react differently when things are going badly. But, the story is one I am not sure about. It came for Joe C and may or may not have been written with fairness in mind. I just wasn't sure how to take that article about Cooper going to the boss.
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:52 PM) I doubt Ventura has one problem in the clubhouse. The players know Chairman Reinsdorf isn't going to let him go under any circumstance. He is just getting started so why would he be let go?
