The Rangers trading Alex Rodriguez? When did that rumor pop up? :fthecubs
-
Steff is exactly right on this issue. There is a thing called "leadership" involved here when you become the "manager". Maybe Ozzie does need to talk to Frank and tell him a thing or three, but you do it in private. I think Ozzie made a big foolish blunder becasue he was so excited to be picked as the manager. I hope that Frank doesn't kick the Spring Jaws behind, but you never know. I don't want Guillen and Cora thinking they are the "Second Coming" to Sox baseball. It takes a team all on the same page and working together to win. You don't piss off your super star on day one.

I still feel something is going to go down.

We are getting too testy here Sox fans. We are all family remember and it's why I like to post on this board. I wouldn't mind going into the season with the team intact, but of course a good trade that can help us is always welcome. Bottom line remains: will it help us? -
Not that it matters, but Magglio isn't hitting...
elrockinMT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I never ...cough..cough...cough..cough, said that! Really, I like Frank and I think he spends alot of time getting himself into condition and works on his hitting. I think he even uses Walt Hriniak as a coach during the winter doesn't he? -
And that's why I can't figure out what all this garbage talk is on possible trades and Neal Cotts, Joe Borchard, et al, our most promising rookies being included in trade talk. The trades are all exretremely suspect anyway and just seem to be a way for some malcontent poster or troll to get us all in a dander.

I can't believe anyone on this board has ever said anything like that..ever... Reed is most likely slated for AAA, right? He probably should be and no reason to rush him. However, it really sounds like he is the type of ballplayer that can suddenly blossom and there you are with Reed in Chitown early.

I was wondering what's up with that? Maggs in Winter Ball? But, I guess he is just trying to get a hard start on the season. Nice to see that even the big stars don't just sit back and get fat over the off season. -
You know that THEY say, "you can never have enough pitching and left handed pitching to be exact." Just hope he doesn't continue to give up a run an inning. Any sign he is working hard and improving is good news.

If you can tolerate one more rumor...
elrockinMT replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox should keep up the demand for the players they are demanding in exchange for Maggs. I would prefer we not trade Maggs at all, but in the baseball business I understand it can happen so demand value in exchange for value. My hope is the Sox will attempt to sign Maggs and be willing to make the right offer. -
Uhhh... excuse me pardner, but I don't understand dude talk. Now get along little doggie.

How can we disagree about a minor-league deal for Robert Person? Not a lot of risk there for the Sox and Person was looked on very favorably by the Phils when he was winning 15 games. He had a future until arm troubles. He is worth a chance and I think, as others do, that we will probably see more of these type of signings. I doubt we will have any trades to speak about.
-
I would be surprised if Wright is in the starting 5. My thought is a rookie either Diaz or Cotts or Rausch. Unless Danny steps up in spring training my bet is he ends up in long relief.
-
We should not make the mistake of undervauling our own players. Maggs is worth every one of the Bums we are asking for from LA.
-
$1.75M and 10 wins is $175,000 a win. Maybe we better hope for a lot of quality starts too?
-
I don't know if Borchard beats out Rowand, but my guess is Borchard stays with the club for major league experience and plays all three OF positions and DH once in a blue moon. Reed goes to AAA and is ready in '05. If we don't sign Maggs either Borchard or Reed will be up to step in his place. But, heh, it's still winter and who knows what will happen or who will be here, or not, come April 5th

Mixed feelings about this trade. I liked Miles and what was said about him being a hard nosed player and getting the most out of what he had. Rep. wasn't to good though as far as his glove. But, he was the MVP of his league so others must have seen something good. Uribe has the reputation of no hit-good field, but possibly with a lackadaisical style in line with what we saw with D Jimenez. KW was all smiles about Jimenez when he was brought to the Sox and we see the same thing about Uribe. I just hope we don't take another bite in the rear end. Miles would seem to fit in with the "grinder" mentality that Ozzie ssays he wants, but we won't know and since we now have Uribe let's just hope it pays off. Don't want to jump to negative conclussions before the guy gets a chance, but it's hard when you got bit once before.

Maybe we will get away from too much tinkering and strategizing, second guessing, left/righty statistics and just play good hard nosed baseball. Kelly Wunsch should be able to log more innings and be successful. I never have bought into to the idea that everytime you have a righty or lefty hitter you must counter with the proper reliever. Stay with who is hot and go for it. If Kelly Wunsch starts and inning and faces a lefty hitter and gets him out but the next guy is a righty I say stay with Wunsch. Everything has been so computerized it takes away the real feel for the game IMHO.

They even deny that they may still be talking about A-Rod. Very interesting... I think something must be imminent...
-
The question that needs to be answered is will he actually start or be a long reliever? If he can win 10-12 games as the 4th or 5th starter than maybe the 1.75M isn't to bad of an investment. I really see some of the younger pitchers making a push for the 4th and 5th roles in the rotation. Schoenenweis might not have what it takes.
-
Good one! I think anyone of us could come up with some interesting, plausible and totally unfounded trade rumors, if we had enough to drink and studied other rumors as hard as Otis does.
-
You might think Gammons would be all over this rumor. I haven't seen anything from him on a possible trade like this. I guess you can never say never, but the bottom line seems to be the Sox trading away more of their ever depleted resource of prospects for a one year acquisition. Once again the talk centers on signing Nomar to an extension and I still think if we can sign Nomar we can sign Magglio.

Maybe makin no moves this offseason is smart!!
elrockinMT replied to Dsavmonster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox management needs to look at winning the Pennant and World Series and not settle for the AL Central. It seems all we want to do is be competitive in the division. We shouldn't have to settle for that. -
Your reasoning makes sense, but we already have been told and have seen with the loss of 7 free agents of our own, that Reinsdorf is not going to spend any more money. I just don't see the deal making any sense at all. Magglio is a free agent in '05 and so is Nomar correct? Why do we care about national marketability versus Chicago marketability as far as signing or not signing Maggs or Nomar? If Maggs is popular here than that's a good reason to sign him and keep him in Chicago. If we can afford Nomar we can afford Maggs. I think it just boils down to who can help the club the most everyday.
-
In a post here on this board someone made reference to the Sox doing the trade to save money on salaries. However, in checking the USA Today 2003 salary index I see that Nomar gets $11M and Nixon $4M. Maggs is listed at $9M and we have been reading that that goes up to $14M in 2004 (?) and we know Jose was picked up at $5M. I don't know what Nomar and Nixon get in 2004, but even with no increase in salary I don't see the huge savings. Plus the WSI report is now the Sox giving up a high ranking prospect in the trade and the Bosox a mid range prospect. Seems we are getting the shaft to save a million dollars and lose Nomar next year to free agency. The Bosox had a team salary on about $92M at the start of '03 and the Sox were at $52M. Both down from the previous year.

Are you sure? I know a guy that once did just that on a $25 bet. He really did I tell you. I hope that KW keeps Paul Konerko. Washburn is not going to improve our team enough to let PK and his 30 homer-100 RBI- .300 batting average go. Now who else can the Angels give us along with washburn to make this good for the Sox?
