YASNY is right. Valentin is a decent 3Bman and even the critical pres reports said that Jose did more than an adequate job at third. Uribe may also play 3B since he is the super sub replacing Tony G. I am sure he will get time at 3B, 2B and SS this Spring.
-
Sure Rex, it is newsworthy, but it is only because it's Frank Thomas that makes it so. My guess is that Frank may like the effect his not responding to every little criticism is causing these writers. There will be things to cover between Frank, Ozzie and KW come reporting time. I just don't see it as a major problem. Do you?
-
Good story. This is what you like to hear and see from pitchers battling for those open spots. You lso like to see that they have had some recent success. Carlos castillo and Frank Campos may bring a fire with them and the other pitchers in the mix might actually catch a little of their desire also.
-
Paul had a great second half and is back on track. Spring training is a week or two too long anyway so reporting on time is all we need. Paul, Frank, Maggs, Carlos, et al, will be working hard and playing the game the right way for Ozzie. I hope we don't have to hear that all year long.

Agreed! All off-season all you heard from the Big Hurt was.. well.. nothing. The ony report I ever read was the interview with Rowand where he said that Frank was happy. The only negatives I have seen on the Big Hurt issue have come from the media. Frank has never officially said anything so they make something up to fuel the fires. Nothing we have heard from these talk radio guys has ever come to fruition has it? I think Frank is ready to play baseball and will be on time to Tucson and will lead with his bat.

Thanks for your sandy grainy picture. Now what was it you had to say again? Oh, yeah! I agree with you. There is no reason we can't win this thing.

That's ok, we have Jose Uribe, Robert Person...Woops!

Peter Gammons says Yanks could go after Buehrle
elrockinMT replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Yankees have nothing the Sox need in the way of possible prospects. I can't see KW and JR trading Buerhle to the Yankees or anyone else for that matter for anything but prospects. To let MB go to another team would mean the Sox management would be in a rebuilding phase. Some writers have suggested that the Sox farm system has not produced any impact players lately. Crede in '03? So if that is tru why trade MB to the Yankees who have less? Nonsensical comments from gammons again. Forget it I say! -
Have a tall cold one on me!

QUOTE (aboz56 @ Feb 16 2004, 11:05 AM) Here's a question for everyone... If George doesn't win this year with A Rod, what does he do next? Sign Pedro after this season and some others? Steff: Geez Aboz.. aren't we depressed enough about this year..? The answer is yes, yes he will. We are depressed, just as Steff says, but I got this hunch that "The Boss" doesn't care what any baseball fan, other than the Yankees, thinks or feels. He will open that checkbook up next off season and buy some more top players. The Yankees don't need a minor league system as long as Steinbrenner keeps handing out those blank checks he is famous for. How long can it last for the Yanks and baseball is the question that needs to be answered, however, if you look at the history of the game, the Yankees have dominated the majority of seasons. Granted there was no free agency stuff to deal with back in the Golden Age, but it seems they did what was needed to win and put togther a competitive team. Can they be beat in 2004? I think so because anything can happen, but acquiring A-Rod with a contract structured the way it seems to be worked out measn the Yanks still have flexibility to go out and get someone else if needed.

That's why he is an expert baseball analyst. I wonder why the so called media experts didn't catch theis one earlier?
-
Just about enough of Georgie and his Yank-me's to make a baseball fan :puke Of course we are all jealous is all. You must give the guy credit though he want's to win and builds a winner anyway he can.
-
We have lost with 24 other players too don't forget plus a manager and team owner. Our failing to make it to the championship is not the fault of the Big Hurt. Remember the guy is a 2 time MVP and we have had success behind Frank in 93-94 and '00.

Was kind of wondering that myself. Hope we get a positive answer. Following th games via CBS sportsline and/or MLB isn't the same as actually being able to tune in and follow it live.

Will possible A-Rod trade help White Sox?
elrockinMT replied to Mr. Showtime's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think at this point a Maggs for Garciapara trade doesn't really do it for the Sox. To much time has passed and things have happened with the other teams and the players of interest. I want Maggs and the rest of the big names we have been hearing kicked around to stay with the Sox. -
Eggggxxxactly! Other than Maddux I don't know of anyone that would be plus over who we have competing right now.
-
Yes, it is possible that KW is "stupid" based on some previous trades, but remember Steff he said he would make no trade unless it improved the Sox. One can only hope that he has matured as a GM and will not do something like the Big Hurt even up for Perez. I even extend that to Konerko even up for Perez because Paulie at least has a better history of production leaving out late 2002 and early 2003.
-
He might be a good writer, but it doesn't mean that Tim K knows anything we haven't already heard. He is just putting into print the rumor that's been out there. I think the story as written raises doubts that it will ever happen. Once again, we all in unison exclaim that a Perez-Thomas even up trade is nonsense and the Sox better see more in the way of top prospects added for FT or for the matter Konerko.

Questions surround the Royals starting rotation
elrockinMT replied to aboz56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the one thing we can all agree on at this point is that every team in the AL Central has questions and concerns. Just have to see how things shake out before opening day. -
It's better not to do a trade with LA if we give up any of our prospects. I think we should just go with who we have anyway and hit the ground running.

Puhhh_leassee. Or, however, you spell that word.

Starting Pitcher Wins Predictions
elrockinMT replied to hogan873's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think we are being very generous to Schoenenweis too. If we think he can win 12 games this season we may all need counseling. My best guesstimate is 8-10 wins tops and he may not even make the starting rotation. Person is a medical experiment in progress and healthy may only win 6-8 games. What we need is Greg Maddux in the rotation and pray that one or more of our rookies comes through. Maybe my pessimism will be rewarded with a surprise effort by the above two end starters. -
I heard a rumor too....

BrandoFan Posted on Feb 10 2004, 06:01 PM QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 10 2004, 09:37 AM) I can't help but think the Sox and Dodgers are going to do something. Their needs match our overabundances and vice versa. I'm not about to predict what that something turns out to be, but it seems to be a strong possibility. Allow me re-iterate: If Frank-for-Perez goes through, that's a few hundred dollars less of revenue for the White Sox. I might just convice a few other Sox fans to curtail their in-park spending as well. And by "might" I mean "will". Kenny, if you're reading this....STOP THE MADNESS! I agree with both POSTS. Somehting might happen betwen the Bums and the Sox, but let's quit this crazy talk about the Big Hurt going to LA. Now Konerko going there might be a possibility, but it better be more for the Sox than just even up.

The Ken Griffey Jr trade rumor was floated here before. A source in Cincy said that baseball people there would be very, very surprised to see the Sox willing to take on Jr.'s contract. Ken Grifey is an interesting ballplayer to have on your team, but a big contract and prone to injuries makes you wonder if he would be worth the risk. As far as Billy Koch is concerned I didn't like the trade for Foulke either, but Billy is a competitor and maybe he can rebound. Konerko will rebound as he showed during the second half. I think this is just a rumor to get people talking and that's all.
