  1. He is the one that blew the last inning play a couple days ago too isn't he? A DP grounder with the bases loaded and it went under his glove?
  2. Possible and I would suppose this is when he rests and Uribe plays SS?
  3. QUOTE (upnorthsox @ Mar 8 2004, 01:54 PM) Yes and I gave two. That there are no lefty 3rd baseman is all about old school thinking and laziness on the part of coaching staffs and nothing to do with actually playing the position. Still waiting on an actual good reason rather. I'll help you hear by letting you know why there are no LH 3B and why sometimes "old school thinking" actually makes sense after 130 or so years. A left-hander at 3B cannot make the throws necessary to play the position. He would be throwing against his body on any play other than one going to his left. There is no way a lefty can make throws charging bunts, and he could not make throws to second fast enough to turn a DP. So if you can explain to me how that is laziness and follow it up with a reason why those things don't matter, perhaps I'll listen. It might just be easier to put down the bottle and get some rest though. Plus the fact that most lefties would be throwing a curve ball or some other junk to first base! As I said before they are left out of the right world.
  4. Jeez, I was just thinking that I would like to see Borchard make the team as the 4th OF'er. He seems to be coming around as a hitter versus a free swinger. What's your idea why Joe shouldn't be with the team? Is it simply because he might need more time in AAA? Reed should plan on AAA this year just becasue he needs to develop and prove himself and improve himself. Joe can play all 3 positions and I think would get some good playing time under Ozzie.
  5. I haven't heard anything officially about Jose going lefty exclusively. Most southpaws will agree that they are left out of the right world, but in Jose's case it might be good to hit from that side all the time. No doubt he doesn't hit well from the right side, but there have been a few ocassions he ripped it from the RH side. I think he did try going only lefty in the winter leagues though.
  6. Your idea/analysis makes sense. The Yanks can always platoon the extra players at DH. Putting Bernie back in the OF is a good choice for them. I wouldn't think the Yanks can offer the Sox enough young talent for Maggs. I am still hoping that JR and KW sign Maggs for a long term deal.
  7. ESPN broadcasting an Angles/Mariners game just reported that the Yankees announced Gary Sheffield tore ligaments in his thumb and will miss at least 3 months. What do you think old Georgie boy will do now?
  8. Smith is a rookie I believe? I don't know too much of anything about him, but he gets one out at home and then the next ball he makes an error and the D-Backs win. Well, one thing about it the pitcher threw what he needed to get the job done and a rookie got a bit excited and didn't concentrate. Anyhow that's my take on the loss. The hitters battled back and that's what is important.
  9. It is certainly nice to see that teams other than the Sox GIDP's. Good job by Adkins to keep battling.
  10. I could go back even a few more years or decades and tell you stories, but I am too embarassed now.
  11. I agree with you 100% on that one. Last year we just didn't have the fire or something. 2000 was pretty special. If you remember 1977 at all that was a year where the Sox could pound anyone. They just didn't have the pitching to hold it. We have a heckuva better staff.
  12. Another good thing to see is a team establishing in ST that they don't fear playing behind in the score. If the Sox can keep that positive outlook and battle all the time we could see some exciting ball on the Southside this year.
  13. I downloaded i-tunes, but I can't see the process to bring up a radio station. Can you help me with that info?
  14. I downloaded the player, but I am not getting any broadcast. Are you having the same problem? Couple of thoughts: Understanding it's ST and all that, but the way the Sox young pitchers came through the first 3 games I don't think Schoenenweis, Castillo, or any of the others can take things for granted. I like Wright and Rausch and maybe Shoe needs to stay in the bullpen. I know KW said he had been trying to trade for Shoe for 3 years, but he wasn't that great in the 2nd half of 03 and he isn't exactly making a real good impression here now. I guess we'll just have to see if he improves. Gload! Now that's a guy showing something positive. I think he's got the team made already. Borchard also, if he isn't hurt.
  15. Just now had the chance to log on. It is fantastic to see 26 people on this thread. I don't care if it's ST or not when a pitching staff can do what the Sox have done starting out. Got to be pleased.
  16. I believe the Sox will be 2-0 at the end of the day. I just logged on of course and have no idea what the score of this game is or the one with Colorado that we won 3-0 (OOOPPPPS!) I can't wait to see that there Russ Gload on TV. Maybe when WGN has the Sox game on the 14th he'll be in the line up. I wonder if anyone knows the ESPN ST broadcast schedule? Thet mentioned something like 10 more games or so on TV and it seems they rotate from Grapefruit to Cactus League.
  17. Something about the 9th inning and the D-Backs when they are trailing
  18. probably excited/nervous about his first major league appearance
  19. QUOTE (KevHead0881 @ Mar 5 2004, 03:03 PM) A shutout is especially good when it's done by your probable 3, 4 and 5 starters. And Rick Sutcliffe said we have no talent...What a tool! Cautiously Optimistic Agreed. OR Optimistically Cautious
  20. I' just logging on for the afternoon news. Don't care if it's just ST when a pitching staff can throw a shutout it's GGGGOOOODDDD!
  21. What makes Rick Sutcliffe even more of an uniformed donkey is the fact he was a Sox supporter last year. If I remember right he was on ESPN picking the Sox to win. Am I wrong? The basic team is still intact even though we lost Flash and Bart. The Sox have talent and can compete with anyone in the league and that includes them damn Yankees and the Red Sox.
  22. Oh well. I guess we left Sarasota for sunshine? You could have ST in Montana...
  23. Catch-22 kind of situation. Darned if you do, darned if you don't when it comes to pitching matchup decisions in the late innings. But, there were many times when JM made decisions last year to remove someone that had us scratching our heads that's for certain. You need to allow pitchers, especially the young guys, the opportunity to step up and get themselves out of a jam, or close out the game they have started, etc, but then again you don't want them out there tired and throwing junk when you have a good bullpen to go to. I would like to see some more 7-8 inning and ocassional complete games from our starters. How many times last year did our #5 starter only go 5 innings? The mindset to pitch longer and also to allow the pitchers that opportunity startds in ST and it sure seems that is happening in Tucson this year.
  24. Tell me again who we traded Ring, et al, for and why?
  25. Our Grinders will crush and chew them like so many coffee beans. Our right handed line up will feast on LH Royal wannabees. Of course on the other hand we might hear that familiar lament, "we never faced them before." I think Appier will be lucky to last 5 innings though.
