Peter Gammons says Yanks could go after Buehrle

Why Peter cause he is Left-Handed??

The Sox have him until 2006...Jesus, what a moron

Still, those who dismiss the Yankee rotation because of the exiles of Andy Pettitte, Roger Clemens and David Wells may vastly underestimate Mike Mussina, Kevin Brown and Javier Vazquez, or the importance of having Paul Quantrill and Tom Gordon leading into Rivera. It is also February, which gives Cashman 5½ months to go get Jarrod Washburn, Odalis Perez, Al Leiter, Mark Buehrle ...

Pretty much he is going to insert any lefthanded pitcher into his rumors.

There's no way Mark will be out of Chicago this season.

I view him, Marte and Lee as the untouchables on this team for this season.

Minor league wise I'd go with Honel and Reed as the only untouchables along with possibly Sweeney and Anderson.

Sweeney and Anderson cant be traded anyways until July

Funny.. when Mark was signed the first thing out of half the folks here was "do you think they signed Mark to trade him away...?"

I assume he means if we are out of contention.

In this division, you could be 10 games under .500 and still be 3 games back of first.

The other thing that doesn't make sense is that the Yankees have very little left to trade... I think the Sox might have been intersted in Soriano, but he's gone and it seems like the Yankees very thin farm system is going to take another hit to complete the A-Rod trade.

If MB puts up his average season for the first half, and with his reasonable long term contract, I don't think the Yankees could offer a reasonable package for him

$$, $$, and more $$.

I know that Good King George has endless amounts of money, but that's what makes the MB contract great for the Sox, it's not really a financial burden, espicially since it's one of the few contracts on the books after 2004.

If MB is trade bait I just think that other teams could give more than NY can player wise

thats great for the fans, but jerry wants the $$$

The Yankees have nothing the Sox need in the way of possible prospects. I can't see KW and JR trading Buerhle to the Yankees or anyone else for that matter for anything but prospects. To let MB go to another team would mean the Sox management would be in a rebuilding phase. Some writers have suggested that the Sox farm system has not produced any impact players lately. Crede in '03? So if that is tru why trade MB to the Yankees who have less? Nonsensical comments from gammons again. Forget it I say!

Correctamundo!! There is no way we trade him without getting a couple of good young prospects in return. I don't care how much money we get in return for him. He is relatively cheap and only 24. It is a ridiculous things Gammons stated. The Yankees have nothing to offer. Their minor league system is bare. There is nothing. They have nothing to trade what so ever. If KW only got money in return for Buehrle then what would happen to our fan base? This is just a ridiculous statement by Gammons.

Can you give me a time when JR has traded away a player and only received money in return. I am not talking about an average or piece of crap player. I mean a player of Buehrle's caliber. Please give me an example. I am sure there is some sort of example, but I am just drawing a blank. Thank you.

We basically traded Jack McDowell away for nothing to the Yankees. Granted he didn't do much after the trade but it still pissed a lot of people off. I don't think we got money in return but it was a payroll dump.

Really? Hmm, must have blocked that out. Didn't he already start declining the year before we let him go? I remember I wasn't all that upset about losing him.

He was 10-9 in 94 but still had an ERA of 3.73 coming off of consecutive 20 win seasons. McDowell was never a guy with a really low ERA so I can't imagine that was to great of a concern. He went on to win 15 games for the Yanks in '95.

Thank you whitesoxfan99. I know JR hates paying pitchers and giving them long contracts. I knew there had to be some kind of an example out there.

No problem. I also forgot to mention that McDowell averaged over 7 innings a start for the Sox in 94 as well as in his previous three years as well, the guy was a gamer.

Yeah I remember that about him. The man was a bulldog, never gave in. He was definately a winner. I also remember him being an emotional kind of guy. He seemed like a leader when he was out there. Like the other players fed off of him.

Yeah, he was my favorite player at that time and I was pretty upset when he got traded seeing as how I was only 9 and didn't quite understand the economics of baseball yet.

Every time that guy speaks he lowers the IQ of his audience. He's a f***ing tool who poses as an objective commentator while in actuality he's a cheerleader for the Red Sox and Yankees.

Speaking of Black Jack, do any of the posters remember in 91 when Mark Whiten charged McDowell on the mound? Whiten really cleaned Black Jack's clock.

He was on Up Close with Roy Firestone later in the week with Jim McMahon type sunglasses.

McDowell was one of my fav Sox players from that period. I used to make a point to go to Comiskey when he was pitching cause I knew I was in for a treat. AHHH the memories.

maybe if ARod doesnt work out in NY we could trade Buehrle for ARod and we would be solid at SS

I remember that and I also remember in '93 when Robin Ventura tried to charge the mound on Nolar Ryan and got put in the headlock and punched about 10 times before being separated. That was priceless.

Give me Valentin over that loser anyday.
