  1. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) What does that translate to. I see rios and finalize lol It's basically a translation of the Kaplan tweet
  2. It would actually make a ton of sense to take back Brandon McCarthy in a D'Backs deal. He makes $10M next year and I don't think they would need him. Makes the money work.
  3. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 44s The Diamondbacks have been considering Peavy for weeks, and if they get cash adjustment, they could make a deal. Towers/Peavy history strong.
  4. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) If we're taking Kubel back it better be as a salary dump for AZ. I want value not 31 year old fat dudes. I'd be happy to have him as a salary dump, but not as a value piece
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) https://twitter.com/jperrotto/status/362265767758151680 Hmmm I'm pressing the bulls*** button on that having happened in the past 24 hours
  6. IIRC, Kap was pretty much spot on when it came to the Garza deal when it broke. He's usually not a source of rumors, though

    Where would you live?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) As for where I'd live...right now, Chicago, which is where I live. My friends are here, my family is here, my wife's family is here, jobs are here... But when I near retirement...decidedly NOT Chicago. Not necessarily a dealbreaker
  8. Question for discussion: If Peavy is traded, which do you expect? a-more impressive return than expected b-less impressive return than expected

    Where would you live?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) I get that it isn't the same for everybody, but I was raised on road trips. Between the ages of 8 and 15, my family took road trips from Northern Indiana to Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, DC (twice), Colorado and California. And that's not including the dozens of trips to both Chicago and Indy that I don't really count because those were As an adult, I've taken road trips from my various residences in the Midwest to Texas, Wyoming, New York, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi (twice), plus I did a complete loop around Lake Michigan. I could never confine myself to an island where the farthest I can get from home by car is 2 hours. I could certainly vacation there for up to a month, but living there would be out of the question. I'd rather live in Anchorage. Being the youngest in my family, my memories of road trips are of me riding in the "b**** seat" (the not actual seat in the middle of the bench backseat) with both of my brothers legs on me while they leaned against the doors and slept.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Position is factored in to WAR. Absolutely. I'm thinking perceived future value
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Worth noting how close it actually is. Sale has 3.8 WAR on the season, Machado 4.4. Then factor in position, potential to improve, Machado's non-pitcherness
  12. Jeff Passan reports that Phillies are calling up a 3B today. Young probably on the way somewhere
  13. Sale is not better than Manny Machado. Let's make that clear.

    Where would you live?

For me, not being able to take a road trip is far from a non-starter
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:42 AM) In order for the Sox to sell it to their fanbase, they would need to get Machado. True, probably. Even though I am skeptical of how beloved Sale is by the average fan. People just don't tend to fall in love with pitchers...especially when they grow such pathetic beards
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) Starting to feel like they'll get down to the last minute with Rios, and the Sox will take the best offer. That would be a nice contract to get off the books for next year. Give me Pence or give me death!
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) That's a good point, but don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible. I think Olney misquoted what was being said. Jon Heyman said that the White Sox "aren't afraid to keep Peavy" and build around him, which is more likely what we have been saying.
  18. LOL I'd take Machado in a minute, but they could never sell that to the fanbase
  19. Never would have happened with Peavy!
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) I disagree. Unless we're really, really close on something (medicals), I'd start him. I think we give up some leverage by holding him out. Starting him sends a message to other teams that we're willing to move on with him in our rotation if we don't get solid offers. Hahn's first sign of weakness, IMHO. Yeah, I found this odd with how good he had done with his pokerface
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) 5%? what does that even mean and how did you come up with that number? We'll still get Middlebrooks, they'll just cut off one of his thumbs
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:42 AM) We don't have the details, but my guess is something like this: For the rest of the regular season, If Crain pitches in 0-9 games, Sox get cash only and no player If Crain pitches in 10-19 games, Sox get player X at the end of the season If Crain pitches in 20+ games, Sox get players X and Y at the end of the season TB has to agree not to trade players X and Y to anybody else for the rest of the season. Keith Law speculated on BBTN that if he doesn't pitch or hardly pitches, we'll get 25K or something just to make it technically a trade with the commissioner's office
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:28 AM) This topic would not be complete wiith out the many who called him Crainwreck. I'm honestly shocked with how little I heard that while he was here.
  24. 163V/161Q today in Joliet. Verbal was the lower range of what I was hoping for, quantitative was at the high end. Most schools in my field don't give two s***s about GRE scores (Communications/Media Studies/Film Studies), but it's nice to have a decent enough score that it shouldn't raise any flags. Especially since I go to a small liberal arts school and thus have a non-amazing GPA (3.75), it's all about just hedging bets. My money will be made on SOP, LOR, and writing sample though. My work experience in TV probably helps too.
