Konerko may go play for Team USA
Cool, I hope he does. I wish this took precedence over the MLB teams.

I fear Ohio State more than Indiana and I say that as a fan of a team that has beaten them both. I probably fear Michigan the most, though.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) It seemed more descriptive rather than normative. I agree. I could guess the leanings of the person telling it, but they were deliberate to not suggest particular policy prescriptions. Obviously, we all know that cutting taxes for the wealthy will fix that distribution.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) This could be almost as bad as far as how long it takes to return to throwing. The "groin" strains can last a while for pitchers as they really need to abduct the hip when they step toward the plate during the pitch. The muscle is really thick (insert joke here) which means it can bleed alot and take a while to heal. And it hurts like a b**** to get soft tissue work done on the adductor...

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) This is called bad math, bad science, and straight up manipulation. I spend $50 a week and eat 2500 to 3000 cal a day. All healthy foods. It said specifically that all the foods were of low calorie density. If you're buying organic, whole food products with very low calorie density...things could add up but it wouldn't be very fun to eat either.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Just gonna point out that you don't seem to have any idea how our welfare system works or any concept of the size and expense of the bureaucracy that would need to be created for these crazy ideas for your "public slaves." Other than Duke's stated desire to act like this: what purpose does his proposals serve? It certainly won't make the system any more efficient or cheaper, instead increasing it by at least an order of magnitude.

Bad coaching at the end, they can't look that s***ty on two straight inbound plays. That was terrible.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) Wow. So I didn't read your article but I wonder if there's something else genetically that allowed her to fight it off? If so, this poor kid's going to have genetics testing for life. The logic seems to be that it was treated very aggressively before it had a chance to spread -- normally, it would re-emerge after lying dormant despite the drugs...but in this case, it never got a chance to spread to those corners of the body where it could "hide." It doesn't appear to be very applicable to those who contract it via sex/drugs, yet, unless perhaps you treat aggressively the moment you come into contact with it.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) You could be right but I don't think so. I think it's 2015 at the earliest as a regular. I could see him as a Sept call up next year but not starting the season. Our OF looks like it will be fairly crowded until that season anyway, plus there are a few guys in the OF in our system that are farther along and might get themselves spots before then as well.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) I'd rather there be no welfare at all. Honestly, just none... that's unfortunately impossible nowadays so I have to tone myself down a little. Way I see it welfare is having an individuals life subsidized by the state, and by state I really mean taxpayers. Taxpayers deserve to be updated on their investments and have every single possible guarantee possible to information that facilitates that process. What does that mean? (1) Welfare recipients must use one debit card for all transactions made with taxpayer dollars. This debit card cannot be used to withdraw cash. All cash purchases must be accompanied by a matching receipt and reported. (2) That information is then made public to the taxpayers, so we know exactly where, when and how our money is being spent. (3) Taxpayers can file complaints against what they see as waste and within a week a judge must make a ruling on whether the complaints are legitimate. If the judge rules that they are indeed valid the welfare recipient is cut off from funds permanently. (4) Once a month all welfare recipients must attend a public forum to answer questions from taxpayers about their efforts to get off welfare. Failure to attend is automatic grounds for removal from the welfare system. (5) Purchases of more than $500, changing of address, conceiving a child* and trips outside the resident state by a welfare recipient must be pre-approved by a judge. (6) Mandatory drug testing *if rejected the baby does not need to be aborted, but will be put up for adoption immediately upon birth. I know this will create a little bureaucracy, but the damage it does to the welfare system will offset that cost and then some. Before you say its a breach of someone's rights, if you're on welfare you've given up all of your rights except the right to life and cruel and unusual punishment. You've become government property and should be treated as such, if you dont like it get off welfare. I feel like you would be against restricting freedoms, but this essentially slavery. "Do things right and we'll let you go free!"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) Searching for Sugar Man has to be not only the best documentary of 2012, it's probably the best overall movie/entertainment of the year. Amazing story. Too strange to be true. I had watched War Witch and 5 Broken Cameras (another excellent documentary), but I've never seen one quite like Sugar Man....and, with all the controversy over Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln and Argo playing around with the truth and events being compressed, made up or overly dramatized, well, nobody could make up the Rodriguez story if they tried for 100 years. I'd argue that The Invisible War was more deserving for doing what the best documentaries do: affect change. The Invisible War leads to policy changes, even before opening
