    Whatcha drinkin'?

Not beer, but a yummy snack
  2. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) The timing of this is really strange. It's not even a week before their first game. Besides the whole luxury tax thing, it's drastically altering a title contender with no time for the new guys to work their way into the lineup before the season. I'm shocked. It honestly makes no sense to me, especially for the Thunder. Unless those "draft considerations" are somehow upper 1st rounders, they got fleeced. With that said, I don't feel like Houston really wins big because their team still isn't that good.
  3. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Nobody chooses the Bulls, don't get your hopes up ;0 he's going to LA Too many salary commitments next year for LA
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA The Rockets send Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future draft considerations to the Thunder for Harden, sources tell Y! Sports. I can't believe either team would want to do that. Are the Rockets going to pay Harden? Will Harden do it? This has to make it more likely that Harden could choose the Bulls as a FA?
  5. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) James Harden to Rockets. wtf?????????????
  6. We hired a coach who specializes in defense who had previously coached for a team that played no defense. This team was also in a conference that doesn't recruit players that are anything like what Illinois recruits. I don't know what we could have expected.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) I think whichever side wins it is going to be by a bigger margin than anyone predicted because people are lying in polls. There is so much attention to polls I can see people making crap up just for fun. It's all accounted for in the math

    Job Hunt Thread

I'd hire greg for a variety of things. I think he'd be very trainable for a variety of things and I'd imagine he'd be very loyal to my company. I would ban him from any company social gatherings if they involve watching White Sox baseball, though

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) There's an interesting documentary called Beer Wars that explains a lot about the beer industry. You can watch it instantly on netflix. I've heard of that too. If you've watched it and want to hear a critique check this out. It is actually a critique from the pro-craft side, so it may clear things up even further about the state of the beer industry. I wish this guy's blog was still active.

    Whatcha drinkin'?

Interesting article for those interesting in the business of beer. This kind of thing generally motivates me to stay away from AB InBev -- remember that now it isn't as obvious as a "Budweiser" label. The Plot to Destroy America's Beer
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 11:08 PM) bro stick with Matlock. you ain't no actuary or stats guy.

    Whatcha drinkin'?

QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) That's a great scotch ale. Also, highly recommend Oscar Blues Old Chub (which I believe is now available in Chicago). I'll check that out. Drinking some more Yazoo tonight, Dos Perros (a Brown Ale) and possibly some more from my sampler from them. Good brewer from Nashville, for sure. I'll probably be low on things to sample that are out of the ordinary for a while since I won't be in IL for another month. Had a Sam Adams Octoberfest with dinner tonight at Outback. I really like that beer. Tried my friend's Foster's, not such a big fan of that brew
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) I remember when Schu was moved out for Kenny, there was a transition period where Schuler still took the fall for some of the deals that took place. I would imagine this is a way of trying not to totally dump on Hahn and make things too much harder than they already are. I have wondered if this is what is going on as well. Hahn can build his resume in a kind of risk-free environment
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) we'll see. As it has been documented before, Nate Silver missed pretty badly in 2010 and if he's wrong again in 2012 he will be considered a low tier statistical prognosticator. if he is right, he will be a genius again. just need to wait and see now. Someone already posted on this and I bet he has written on it as well. There's a reason for the level of uncertainty he attaches to things, for one. If he gives 60% certainty to a set of election results, he should only be correct on 60% of them. As a statistician, he would tell you that if he was consistently more correct than his certainty rating, that would reflect some kind of flaw in his model. Of the other aggregators in this election season, he has been consistently less optimistic about an Obama win.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) LMAO Mr Optimistic all the sudden has a heart pang of pessimism. Do tell, what is this information that is available to you? The same information that is available to everyone else. That KW has been a GM for more than a decade and has won many more trades than he has lost. I have no reason to believe that a completely inexperienced Rick Hahn will be effective at the myriad of things that go into working out a trade. The stuff today has made it completely unclear to me who has control. It does seem that to some extent JR probably wants to get further away from personnel decisions and is probably going to give KW some of the veto power that JR once held.
  16. More posts from Joxer Daly is what we need, indeed.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) hey man, i want Romney to lose. but Romney does clearly have momentum. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2...o-have-stopped/
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) According to Drudge this morning, Obama and Romney are each at 49% in Wisconsin. Polling averages have Obama up 3-4%
  19. I have no desire for Rick Hahn to make trades based on the information I have available to me. Kenny has been doing that for a long time and honestly has a pretty damn good track record. I have a feeling Hahn has been the brainchild behind free agent acquisitions for a while now. We'll probably not be sure what's going on from here on out.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) I mentioned this before, but why would Hahn take a job if he isn't the one making the moves? He's always on the lists of top GM candidates, so why not take a job elsewhere where you have more control if Kenny is just gonna be in charge? Seems pointless to take the Sox job if that's the case. $$$$$
  21. ...and why do we assume this has any meaning whatsoever? Kenny is still his boss, this is going to be like Theo and his little friend until I hear something different. My guess is they'll be unclear about it so that if things go well, it helps Hahn get a real job and if things go poorly, KW can take the blame.

    Whatcha drinkin'?

I just had some Founders Dirty Bastard for the first time... Delicious. Complex, stronger than I'm used to (big wimp), but not offensive at all. I will probably get a four-pack of this over the holiday.
  23. I just saw a new "This is SportsCenter" commercial on ESPN, starring John Clayton as living in his parents' house while he works. Hilariousness
  24. President Obama keeps his seat, winning the popular vote by a mere .9% However, he will win IA, OH, CO (in addition to easier wins IMO such as WI, MI, PA, NV) and have a fairly comfortable electoral college victory.
