2012-2013 NFL Thread
I doubt he broke the rules, but it clearly looks like he went with the tackling method most likely to injure rather than most likely to tackle the QB. Luckily for him, he's so immensely talented that he pretty much always gets you down no matter how he goes after you. Also, Jay Cutler is easily the toughest son of a b**** we've had behind center since I've started watching the Bears. I do recall a delirious Chris Chandler trying to take snaps at one point, though

2012 NLCS: Cardinals vs Giants
Matheny more or less throws Kozma under the bus, saying that the game turned on that non-play. Makes a half-hearted effort to explain that the ball had funny spin. Seeing the replay, I don't blame Kozma at all. He hit the ball three times. A good infielder breaks during the swing in most cases, if not at the moment of contact. By the third contact, you're f***ed if it's not at where you're going.

BTW, Briggs is playing the best ball of his career right now. Possibly Tillman as well, and he's STILL not the best CB on the team.

The Debates!
I will give Romney to credit for one thing: even when he's getting beat, he never shows it in his demeanor. Despite literally offering no substance, he remained confident and calculated...so as to give the illusion that he was talking substantively. When it comes to foreign policy, especially in this age, it is just a tremendous advantage to have been President already. There's no other way to prepare or even know exactly what's going on.

Peavy hires Berry as agent
I wouldn't expect the Sox to add anyone in the rotation, especially if we bring back Peavy or Floyd. It would really shock me given our depth if we tried to make another splash in the rotation.

Who are you rooting for in 2012 MLB Playoffs?
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2012 -> 07:20 PM) The more I have to deal with Cardinals fans on Facebook, the more I am hoping that the Giants complete the comeback. They have won the 2nd most WS titles in history, yet Cardinals fans act like they are some bad luck franchise that has dealt with so much adversity. Gimme a break. A Cards/Tigers WS would be brutal. This go Giants

Early voting starts today in IL & WI
If you live in IL, you can consider your vote worthless Likewise with the vast majority of states. I know you could theoretically start a movement large enough to make your collective votes shift things, but let's get real. That's not happening. If and when we get rid of the electoral college, politics will change forever, for the better. My vote will count as much as some middle aged guy in Ohio.

Early voting starts today in IL & WI
I voted in IL a week ago I'm pretty sure it was basically as if I mailed them an absentee ballot, except I just filled it out and gave it to them in person.

Obamanation Re-election MegaThread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) I thought he actually did pretty decently in 2010? http://www.pacificnorthwestcoastbias.com/g...on-predictions/ Yeah he did fairly well, depending on the standard with which you measure. Maybe that rate of accuracy doesn't feel accurate, because it is of course not absolutely certain. As a Political Science student (by no means an expert, I don't even like this aspect of the field), I love his methods and his willingness to share them. He doesn't make the smart guy mistake of over-complicating everything and you see over-complication screwing a lot of pollsters, especially the wildly inconsistent ones like Gallup.

All my beer snob buddies love IPA's, but the ones I've had are just okay for me. Very strong stuff

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) I've been hitting up a lot of local options such as the Highland Black Mocha Stout, the Foothills Octoberfest, and I tried the pale ale at a local brewery (Saw Works) last night. Thankfully, things are getting better in TN as far as brewing and selection. Of course, having Asheville so close also helps! I'm going to see if those things have made the trek across the state! Today is and ...and maybe more

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) Rodriguez, Jones and Dunn all have something in common that everyone should be weary of... Long swing + Age + Loss of bat speed = sharp decline. Those guys who made up for their swing with bat speed usually have a sharp decline. These players have nothing in common

I think kyyle's post is a pretty balanced look at weed. It isn't the boogeyman, but there are some potentially big downsides too.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 11:04 PM) I've been trying as many Oktoberfests as I can. So far, Schlafly is my favorite this year. I have also found out that I don't mind an occasional pumpkin beer, oddly enough, I cannot stand the Schlafly Pumpkin. Schlafly is hit and miss for me. Favorite Oktoberfest? I haven't had too many. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 12:40 AM) Yazoo hefeweizen out of Nashville. I will try that out, I'm in Memphis so I should support brewers trying to survive in TN where alcohol sales are fairly restricted.

Relationship Advice Thread
If my end goal is getting drunk, I'm going to be having shots and/or mixed drinks. I'm all about efficiency. I don't like to get drunk very often, though. I really have never had a hangover issue before, usually can hardly tell. A few times I've woken up the next morning still drunk, but never really hungover with headaches, puking, etc. I will never drink beer with the intention of getting drunk. I don't like the cheap stuff and while I might get my buzz on after having a few, I drink beer because I like it. I'm not a fan of being under the influence of much at all, sans the occasional heavy dose of caffeine and related stimulants.

QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) HA! I just bumped the Finer Things thread for a Alaskan Smoked Porter. Sorry. Oh, and Destihl is absolutely amazing. Their sours are very impressive. Son of a b****! lol, couldn't find that thread for the life of me. I'll let the masses decide if this shall be integrated into the old or whether we need a new.

Whatcha drinkin'?
I could have sworn we had a beer lovers' thread around here at some point, but for the life of me I cannot find it. I am somewhat new to beer, but I'd love to get some ST conversation of craft beers as well as any ol' beers that people like. I honestly used to hate beer, but someone finally told me that not liking Bud/Natty/Miller light beers was not enough experience to judge the potential of beers. I spent a little more time and care trying things and now I have a full blown hobby, though I admit I haven't gone hard after the IPAs and other high IBU beers for the most part yet. Seems like I'll really be a connoisseur once I fully embrace the hoppiest of beers. Anyways, what are you guys drinking? What's your favorite stuff? What's on your want list? What did you just buy? What's your cellar look like? We did a wonderful knightni poll in 2010, look here for results: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80260 I've been enjoying wheat beers, particularly hefeweizen style, since I had hefeweizen at Destihl Brewpub in Bloomington-Normal. If you're ever in Central IL, check out the Destihl locations -- great house brews, pretty damn good foods too. You can buy 4 oz samples for $1-2 each if you want to try out a variety of things and you can take a growler of something home with you. Destihl's Strawberry Blonde medaled at this year's GABF -- I found it delicious as well. My true favorite hefeweizen is: I found out they're owned by AB InBev, so I like to mix in this as well:
