I think we try to extrapolate the data too far. Obviously he won't hit 100 HRs if he strikes out 400 times. Within a certain range, though, it seems that his approach changing to make more contact is costing him power. This shouldn't surprise anyone, think about when you played baseball, how hard you might hit something if you were trying not to strike out (many of us had coaches that were not cool with strikeouts). It's not very far. My guess is that Adam's "no striking out" adjustment is to his swing and not his pitch selection. He should avoid striking out by hitting the correct pitch and watching the incorrect ones. My eye tells me that he is swinging at the same amount or worse amount of pitches he shouldn't, but alters his swing to try to touch them instead of missing them like he used to.

Trayce has all the makings of a fast riser, given his talent level. He might be the kind of guy that was just that one click away from surging to the MLB. It seems to have taken longer than we hoped to get that click, but this year has been great, especially the second half.
-
The only threats to guys' confidence is possible poor play -- and most won't be too affected by that. Hawkins will probably be in A+ to start next year and the I love the fact that he could be in AA at 19 years old by the end of next year. Sounds like there is no need to rush though. I'm very excited for Trayce too, he is mega-talented. I have to say that our organizational depth in the OF looks pretty good right now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) I don't care how fiscally irresponsible it would be, Mark Buehrle coming back to the Sox would make me masturbate and give us a much better chance of winning a World Series title this year. Also, Jake's gone this offseason anyway, so 2013 would look better, too. I will return!

The broadcasts this year are better than they have been in years.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) I wish I could cuss. Does anyone here remember the near-revolution when Soxtalk added swearing filters?

I like Stone, but he's put on a God level just because he's even-keeled and speaks in absolutes. He kills me by frequently calling pitches incorrectly. The best thing he does is hit you with some dry humor when you're not ready for it and the next best thing he does is narrate some of the things that Hawk would be too pissed to say. Gimme some Darrin Jackson, he ended up being a great match for Hawk by the end of his run. Now DJ is stinking up our radio broadcast, the only redeeming quality of which is the frequent awkward back and forth between Farmer and DJ

I think Hawk is a huge fan of instant replay and in general likes things like the expansion of the playoffs, etc. It would be wildly unprofessional for a broadcaster that travels with the team to say much of anything about PEDs. You can't really say anything about it without feeling compelled to talk about WHO and since he actually goes face to face with pro baseball players, he probably would rather ignore the subject until it affects our own team. He also rocks that iPad

Don't stop now boys!

Vin Scully has a great voice, but he is as boring as hell. Hawk lacks the vocal talent of many broadcasters (though his voice is more than adequate) but he can actually make a game interesting. For the casual fan, he is an absolute must. My girlfriend hates when the Sox play on national TV because she loves Hawk's broadcasting. He brings excitement to a boring sport, it's hard to do. For many diehards, it'd be even harder to imagine Sox baseball without him. I can at least understand a little bit how someone who watches every Sox game could be bothered, even if I feel the exact opposite. For Sox fans, I think it is a case of familiarity breeds contempt. For non-Sox fans, I'd be a little confused if they did like him. It only makes sense if you feel as emotional as he does.

Signing Flynn to that deal is like us signing Teahen to the deal we signed him to. It stinks, you have to give him a shot, but it won't truly bog you down. Just can't have a bunch of deals like that. Scrap heap acquisitions can ease all those ills.
-
Like I said, if Adam tries to make more contact he hits fewer home runs. He has a home run swing and a contact swing and they don't blend together well. Those strikeouts get to your head though, so I understand that he is trying to make some more contact. How many warning track flies have you seen from him lately compared to the first half? I have to wonder if some of the difference in Dunn's numbers is related to having better hitters around him than ever before.

Grabbing Buehrle would probably be the least negative effect a big acquisition could have on the clubhouse. The opposing possibility would be the media circus that would follow Dice-K here.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 12:11 AM) I haven't heard him use some of those in a while. Bolingbrook bounce, Matt Abattacola etc. He's added Thornton Woods Hop

Since "it's all good" always rears its head during the best of times, I've learned to love it. Kind of like when something is so bad, it's good. As I said about "appreciate the game" before the season, we will all appropriate it as awesome when we win it all.

I found The Hangover to be almost overwhelmingly quotable. It wasn't an amazing movie, but oh so very quotable. I did enjoy it though, but if not for the screenwriter and/or the improv of the actors, it may have flopped.

Those guys at MotownSports REALLY hate the White Sox. Like, a lot more than we hate the Tigers.

I think Tyler Flowers could be a very decent everyday catcher. I'm not about to dump AJ, though.

It's been all too clear for a while that he's been pitching hurt.
