  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) If Donnie Veal wasn't God's gift to LOOGYS, then I might agree that Ventura had no other better options. Very well may not have been available. I feel like when I've said this in the past though, that player immediately starts warming up
  2. I'm not completely sipping the Tigers kool-aid, but the perk of having several big star players on your team is they can carry you. The problem with having s*** surrounding them is that these few players are the sole determinant of your success. We've been getting beat by their studs and that stinks...we've got that cool "6 guys with 20 HR" and overall more balanced approach that has helped us string together a very nice season. Unfortunately there just isn't a guy or guys to put the team on their backs for us. This is really kind of why it sucks to not have Dunn around because he alone could change a series like this with just a couple swings of the bat in the way that basically no one else on our team is likely to.
  3. If we're seeing the return of PK there may yet be a positive to this game
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) Where the f*** was Veal? Septimo has shown that he's terrible in close games. Not only will they lose tonight, but now they have to use an inferior starter this weekend instead of Santiago. Must have needed a breather. Septimo has been effective since the return off the DL but it never should have come to that. Santiago is plenty stretched out and I am not in favor of putting a middling RHP just to face Miguel Cabrera who is basically going to hurt you no matter what you do. Let Hector (who can be effective against RH batters and has the stuff to get them out consistently) take his chances against Cabrera and then have him try his luck against Prince with the L/L matchup.
  5. Lots of baseball left, boys. Including a game vs this same team featuring our best starter!
  6. Still sticking with my "should have left Hector in" theory
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) The formula to win this division is to beat your division, beat the poor teams, and then to play 500 against the better teams, we have done fine against the better teams, however have dropped a ridiculous amount of games to the NL, the Royals, and the Tigers. We play 500 against just that group and this race is over. I've actually liked the way we've played most of our potential playoff opponents minus the Tigers. We can run with the Yanks and Rangers head-to-head, it seems
  8. Catch the ball AJ
  9. Should have just left Hector in.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Since when did Omogrosso become a reliever the Sox rely on? I'm not a big fan of trying to play matchups with Cabrera. He will hit all of your pitchers.
  11. Give me Veal/Septimo
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) Well luckily we play quite a bit of games against each other to see who is better.....ooppsss It's worth asking whether head-to-head is a valid way to measure it. A team may not be good in general, but the individual matchup of two teams allows the generally worse team to be better head-to-head. Is it more important that you can beat a wide variety of teams or that you beat a particular, good one?
  13. I say just leave Santiago in there until the score changes.
  14. Hudson what a play!!
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) Amazing how this offense is unable to generate a single run We have one run!
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Injuries have decimated the White Sox. Besides the obvious ones like Danks and Dunn, you have guys like Konerko who's been mediocre since June and even De Aza seems to have hit the wall now. Just think about this...Wise is batting 3rd for the White Sox while Miguel Cabrera bats 3rd for the Tigers. Youk is also not healthy by most accounts. Gordon Beckham also has mental health concerns (green?) Also, if AJ had caught that offspeed on 1-2 he'd have been rung up
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) So that's why there was only ever one of him playing at a time. LOL As far as the breakdown, I'd have to think that every team's season can basically be broken down like this. Maybe not.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Exactly NOT the inning we wanted, so far. Scherzer will be able to go 7 now, in all likelihood. How many pitches will old man Leyland let him throw?
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Except she has idea what she's doing. DO NOT DISRESPECT THE KUSTOK
  20. I miss the part of the year when PK came through with the asininely soft clutch single at basically every opportunity
  21. Brunette Kustok doppleganger
  22. If Hector can ever win the battle with the base on balls, he'll be elite. He's still someone that I like more as a starter than reliever. He's clearly a guy that needs a nice, long warmup and needs to find a rhythm to start hitting the zone consistently. We don't want that one "mulligan" batter for him to walk out of the pen, but over the course of a start we can deal with him putting his own men on to recalibrate now and then.
  23. Completely fooled his ass and he still got the RBI
  24. Luckily, Santiago has owned Cabrera in high leverage situations in the past
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) So great, does this mean Liriano starts this weekend? On 2 days rest, this seems absolutely ridiculous to use Santiago. Looks like we're going at this with a playoff mindset -- win these games and worry about the rest later.
