QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) Imo, that's not just the icing, it's the cake + the icing + the sprinkles + the bitter birthday clown + the pony + the presents + ... Wow. How does that come into his head, anyway? "Hey sugar tits" might be the funniest part.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) You have got to be fishing spiffting me. The cusswords should be allowed this one time. My god, the guy is Paul Konerko, the heart and soul of the team. Give me a fishing break. ALL players go in slumps, including Paulie. What filters? And greg, if you want a fishing break, go ahead, we won't hold it against you. Just post about your catch in SLaM.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Since his name has been brought up here, seems worth mentioning that Sal Fasano was picked up by the Yanks for a minor leaguer. Kelly Stinnett dfa. I noticed Fasano had to trim the Fu Man Chu but got to keep his mustache. I didn't know the Yankees allowed facial hair of any kind?

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Uribe's not the greatest shortstop out there but Soriano made a lot of errors at 2nd base, I couldn't imagine how many he'd make at shortshop. He meant he wanted to upgrade the position, not use Soriano to upgrade the position.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) If we banned arm chair managing/GMing from the site there would basically be no point in even comming here. Yeah, and it seems we've been slow as of late as it is.

I have never been a big Mel Gibson fan. Even though Braveheart is one of the all-time greatest movies.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) I would say what he did from 01-03 is pretty close to dominating, especially when you can throw over 220+IP for those 3 seasons and average over 200 K's for those seasons. Not saying he's going to get back to that, but it shows what he's capable of when he's on and doing everything right. As far as I know, the big inning has always been his problem. Just moreso this year, with no dominating starts in between.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) Oh, ok. Yes, of course. His offense has been spectacular this year. Have you seen how many times runners have advanced an extra base on him this year? It's happened quite a lot. He doesn't seem to get to the ball fast enough, or he doesn't come up firing when he gets there. And he's extremely slow out in RF this year. Have you seen how many times runners have chosen not to attempt an extra base on him this year as well? Of course, nimble is not something I would ever call him.

QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) No Sox fan who wants to win is upset we didn't keep Frank. In a perfect world, he would have retired a White Sox. It still feels funny seeing him in another uni.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) In Cuba. The MLB is a whole different ballgame. This is Contreras from 2004 and the 1st half of 2005; 2004 (NYY) - 8-5, 5.64 ERA, 82K's, 42BB's. 2004 (CHW) - 5-4, 5.30 ERA, 68K's, 42BB's. 2005 (1st half CHW) - 4-5, 4.26 ERA, 72K's, 48BB's. And Vazquez put up 3 sub 4ERA's for the Expos from 2001 to 2003. Ever since he left them, he hasn't been the same. But he's got the potential to that get back to those type of numbers, if he uses his stuff better and makes the right decisions on the mound. Vazquez still hasn't ever dominated. Returning to mediocrity would be a nice step, but he's never achieved anything near his limitless potential, which is one of the sadnesses of sport.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) To pick up his option. We'd be insane not to, considering what he could get on the open market. Jermaine sucks. He can't throw out runners remember?

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:17 AM) His OBP alone makes him very appealing. Just think of how many extra RBI opportunities Gooch, Thome, and Paulie would get with him leading off. The contract is really his only issue. It would take a lot of adjusting for me to just get used to looking at him. He's really an extremely ugly man.

QUOTE(Yoda @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) It was a big stretch in the off-season to say that Big Frank would hit 30 HR's for this year. Look at him now. I would say that getting 30 HR's out of your DH is something, especially when it comes from a player that hasn't done that in a while because of health issues. I don't know how SoxTalk feels about this, but no matter what I'm glad we didn't keep Frank, we just don't have a place for him on this team.

QUOTE(zaw @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) verlander- he's not being ridden at all; gimme a break. the guy is easin his way through all these games. he's a stud; he's the next randy johnson (oops, no, make that bonderman) (cripes that guy in minn (damn their luck).) cheers This may be one of the dumbest posts I have ever seen. How about we make an Anti-QOTM thread? To keep track of utter stupidity on this website.

A non-home run hitter would love to play in this park. A lot of ground for outfielders to cover = extra base hits and singles.

QUOTE(Sam @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) The Sox have a team option on Dye for $6 mil next year. EDIT: Damn you Jake...

QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) If I recall, Dye's a FA after this year. I think he's done in Chicago. ( Plz correct me if I'm wrong on the contract.) We have him through 07 via a team option for 6M.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) No. The Diamondbacks got to keep all of the money the Yankees sent them. We got something like $3 million from the D-Backs in that deal, but that's it. Per MLB4U:

You guys have to be fishing kidding me with this pessimistic bullspiff. We won, it wasn't pretty, but who cares? The pen picked a good day to have a bad day. You can continue with your pessimistic nature the next time we lose. Please, for me and yourself as well, try to enjoy a god damn couple days of winning.

You guys are nuts about Dye's arm. Almost every game is somehow changed because runners won't advance on Dye. There's a lot time where no one could throw out the baserunner and they still don't advance. Dye is really a gamechanger in RF, just because of how much they respect his arm and don't give him opportunities to throw runners out.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Both aren't coming up unless both are starting. And there's one spot for two guys, unless a move is made. Sweeney isn't getting called up to be a fourth outfielder. For some reason I'd rather see Sweeney in LF next season and maybe Fields in a different uniform. I'd rather let Sweeney pan out and get some value for Fields than watch Sweeney in AAA again because a 3B stole his spot.

At this point in time, Soriano is the only player I really want to pursue. There's no other position I feel needs to be upgraded.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) A Garcia for Crisp trade would be one of my favorite transactions ever by the White Sox. He didn't mean Garcia. He meant Haeger. But I agree, I would love a Garcia for Crisp trade.
