  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Well Pods wife is hot. There is a remote possibility that you may see her at the park. But then again I can google her images on the internet, and then watch Soriano make Pods just a remote memory of 2005.
  2. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) i wouldnt. can you really name something that pods does that contributes to this teams success? Exactly. At best, Podsednik is an average player (with average talent). On this team, he just shapes up to be a non contributor.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) Btw, how in hell can Vida Guerra's cell phone pix get on the net, while Zoo Magazine's pix are nowhere to be found? A sad commentary on...my life...but also on... This is quite disappointing.
  4. Yeah, although the owners weren't the most gracious, the man really comes out great in this deal.
  5. QUOTE(bighurt574 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) If we can get Soriano without giving up BMac I like our chances of resigning Soriano. That lets us stick with the plan of moving BMac into the rotation and shipping out a Garcia or Vazquez. Take the salary we hopefully save from moving Garcia/Vazquez and Pods (assuming he is either part of the Soriano deal or would be dealt seperately if Soriano signs an extension), that already goes a long way towards paying Soriano. Yes, this is all starting to take shape in my mind the way I imagine it might be in Kenny's. (How dare I try to assume I know what Kenny is thinking!)
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:30 AM) Texas have 4 good SP prospects in Danks, Diamond, Volquez and Hurley that we would probably be interested in. They're a good fit in terms of what we're trying to get for a SP. Although he isn't having a great year, would the Sox pursue Haigwood again if they were dealing with Texas?
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Oh... No, I cannot imagine any scenario in which the Nats give us cash... Yeah, more wishful thinking than anything else. I really don't think KW would rent him tho. We will either deal him again (which I doubt) or Kenny has the free money to extend him.
  8. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) One Championship is NEVER enough. It just makes you hungry for MORE. (Were you done after the Bulls threepeat? Wasn't the second threepeat just as grand?) That said, if we don't win again this year, I am so glad that the Sox finally won one in my lifetime. By happenstance, I was 2 years old the last time the Sox won the pennant, in 1959. Last fall, my son was 2, and the Sox not only won the pennant, but the World Series. So he knows what team to root for, even if he doesn't really understand all the nuances of baseball. And the other day, when I asked him what he wanted to be, he said: "baseball player." We're never going to lose memories like this of the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox. (After the season, I wrote a 17-page ode to the season just so I would never forget.) I also agree that it is helpful to take a break, and by all means SPEND TIME WITH YOUR KIDS! I'm off to Vermont in a couple of days to camp with my kids, and I'm not going to be anywhere near a newspaper. If I call my wife by cell-phone, I don't want to know anything that's happening with baseball. Given our 3-10 slide against our AL competitors, it is very good timing for a break. And maybe, just maybe, when I get back, not only will I be rejuvenated, but so will the SOX. GO WHITE SOX!!! BACK-TO-BACK WS TITLES!!!!! If we win while you're gone, we don't want you back.
  9. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) Yeah just like Fransico Lriano and Justin Verlander are dime a dozen. I mean the Sox probably got 10 of those type prospects. There are MANY more highly touted prospects that turn into Kip Wells than ones that turn into Fransisco Liriano.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) That is one year. His career OBP is only .346. Who cares about his rookie year. So, it is ENTIRELY true. I agree he did a good job at seeing more pitches last year, but this year? NO! Last year he did a great job at seeing more pitches and being a leadoff hitter. I don't see him doing that this year. You are getting a better average, about the same OBP, and only 4 less stolen bases. How does Podsednik possibly become the better leadoff hitter? The only categories that Pods ihas a higher number than Soriano in is triples and caught steals. That is it. There is no way that Pods has better numbers that Soriano that make him more suitable to leadoff. Your only argument is that Soriano is a great power hitter so we have to take advantage of that, however that does not make him any less suitable to hit leadoff than Pods. That is just ridiculous. Exactly what I've been trying to tell everyone.
  11. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Nah, I see us ranked 5th behind the Tigers, Yankees, Red Sox, and the Mets as of now. I believe if the playoff starts today, our White Sox team will be a whole lot different and better team! If that's true, it's not a good thing. If the Sox don't realize that almost every game has a huge impact by now they don't deserve to go to the playoffs.
  12. Can someone change my member title to Mr. Optimism? Fathom, I am the Yin to your Yang.
  13. Anyone else think KW may give them a Sweeney-Broadway (or even Fields-Sweeney-Broadway) combination to get some extra cash to help pay for an extension?
  14. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Blasphemy!
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) If it comse to that definately. Of course I'm hoping the next thread will be the one where we change this to announcing the deal as being OFFICIAL. Yeah, Kenny, Soxtalk's servers are begging you, get this deal over with!
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) If we were to trade Pods and some prospects for Soriano (not named Fields or Broadway), I woudn't even be too upset if we couldn't re-sign him. That way, we'd be starting fresh with a new left fielder, and I highly doubt it would be anyone from our system. It's too bad we don't have any real "toolsy" outfielders in our system, as everyone knows Bowden loves those type of guys. Fields can be thought of as a toolsy player. Seeing as he is likely athletically capable to play a few positions. I don't mind parting with Fields however, if we can keep a 100% proven impact player like Soriano long-term.
  17. I really hope this trade goes through. Moves like this can not only put the new player's production in the lineup, it can spark the entire team to perform at a higher level. Come on K-Dubs!
  18. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Who would you rather have (these are ESPN projections based upon what they have done this year)? ______G______AB_______R_______H______2B______3B______HR_____RBI______SB______BA_____OBP_____SLG _____154_____590_____113_____161______38______10_______5______63______50___0.272___0.349___0.397 _____161_____656_____120_____189______41_______3______51_____102______41___0.288___0.361___0.594 It's quite simple, anywhere in the order. We just have to figure out that contract thing, which I trust KW would do if he made that trade.
  19. At this point in time, we deserve to be losing spots. Hell, I feel a little overrated in the 4 spot.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Hopefully, except for McCarthy. If I'm in KW's seat, you hold a gun up to the 2 and ask me which one gets to live and I start putting together packages to get myself a new Center Fielder. I value McCarthy second behind Anderson. It's a close second tho. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) As would I. I'm going to ask a question. What's the difference if Pods gets on 40 more times in the year than Alf and Soriano hitting about 37 more HR's than Pods? Getting on doesn't guarentee a run, especially when you're not running like Pods used to. Hitting a HR guarentee's you a run. Not to be an ass or anything. Alf = Soriano
  21. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) The best lead off man in history, Rickey Henderson, hit many lead off homers Exactly. And while Soriano is not the consummate leadoff man, I would much rather see him there than Pods. Sure he leads off the game, but after that, it no longer matters what his spot in the order is. He will drive in Anderson and Uribe. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) If there is ACTUALLY the 3rd option - BA AND Soriano - I would jump for JOY!!! I'm pretty sure the Sox value Anderson over all other names mentioned in all the rumors. EDIT:Oh and nifty. ^^^ When I quote two posts in a row it puts them in the same post for me. Props to administration for having a great message board with user-friendly features like that.
  22. QUOTE(rowand @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) When McDougal gets our best pitching prospect and a good 2nd prospect? Just my thoughts. I definitely would not consider Lumsden our best pitching prospect, and it's not entirely agreeable to call Daniel Cortes a "good" prospect. He wasn't bad by any means, but I wouldn't call him good as of yet.
  23. Again while I'm not positive of this, it appears he meant to make a purposely extremely negative thread to emulate the one he made last year which to him seems to have triggered our turnaround. (Silly guy, it was the Rally Crede!)
  24. Some of you guys are making it sound like having power from the leadoff spot is bad. Just because the prototype leadoff hitter does not hit for power, does not mean you don't want your leadoff guy to have power. Podsednik gets on base at a slightly better clip than Soriano, has a lower BA, and of course much lower power stats while him and Soriano appear to have comparable speed. At worst Soriano is equal to Pods in LF defensively, maybe even slightly better. His arm is definitely better than Pods. But as far as a power hitting leadoff man goes, you might want to ask Robbie Alomar if you can be a good leadoff hitter and still hit for power. (Yes, Alomar did get on base at a significantly higher clip than both Alfie and Pods, but the Soriano-Alomar comparison still has relevance to this conversation.)
  25. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) After last year, I thought that I wouldn't get upset if the Sox failed to win a playoff series for the next 20 years. If the Tigers win 110 games, the Twins win 95, and the Sox "only" win 94, I'll have to tip my hat to those other teams. However, I'm absolutely livid with the way the Sox have been playing this month. I can accept a less-talented team not making the playoffs or not going far into the playoffs, but not a team with this much talent. Their under-achieving is maddening. I agree. It's not that I won't be able to do with losing. It's the fact we have so much talent, and we aren't playing up to it that is frustrating.
