Padres "focused on Fields"
I'm not thrilled at all with Linebrink. Can someone enlighten me as to why he is valued so high? I really know little about him other than his numbers are far from flashy and he is 29 years old.

Coco Crisp offered to the Sox?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Buster Olney did not say it was a starting pitcher, for all we know they called about Cotts, Thornton, MacDougal, Jenks or McCarthy. Ahh spiff. I keep forgetting about that. I would give up Cotts for him, even though I love Neal. Other than that, I'm undecided on McCarthy (but I'm pretty sure KW would want more if he was to give up McCarthy) and as far as I'm concerned MacDougal Jenks and Thornton are untouchable. And I want them all locked up. We will have the best bullpen in the league for years to come with those 3 on the back end. QUOTE(champ @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) By who, the dumbspiffs that cloud the airwaves on the radio everyday? No one has ever said that those guys are on the market, besides the NY Daily News, who was just dreaming about getting another pitcher because they know that team won't be worth a damn once the playoffs roll around. With all the media speculation surrounding Vazquez and Garcia, I am inclined to think GMs will be apt to at least call and see the availability of those two if they are at all interested in their services.

Coco Crisp offered to the Sox?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Whoever said it was Garcia/Vazquez? More of an assumption, considering it's likely known around the league that those two can be had. Garland has no-trade of course. I doubt he gets many inquiries on Buehrle and Contreras. Although I suppose they could have been meaning McCarthy. That would make the deal quite interesting, and tempting. It'd be a tough call. That's why I'm glad I don't sit in the big office.

Coco Crisp offered to the Sox?
Why exactly don't you like this deal? I feel he's a better hitter than Podsednik, is only making 2.75 million(and he just signed a 3-year extension worth 15.5M thru the 2009 season - he receives a 1M signing bonus and salaries of 3.5M in 2007, 4.75M in 2008 and 5.75M in 2009), is 26 years old, is a better defender than Podsednik, and it gives us the opportunity to dump the salary of a Vazquez/Garcia as well as move Mac into the rotation. This seems like it'd be a pretty good all around deal to me.

I have an idea for pitching....
So where did my post on this topic go?

Cheers to Ross Gload
That is absolutely phenomenal. And had to do wonders for clubhouse morale.

Strip Poker Championship
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) So that's why ESPN's not covering it... They just don't know they're covering it yet. You know if they catch wind of this there will at least be a mention on a few programs.

Superstitions. Which one will you employ to stop the losing?
I wore my Washington Nats hat all day today. And what do you know? Win. Maybe we get Soriano too?

Thomas Jones out on the PUP
How do you pull a hamstring at a physical? Come on now. At least we'll know what Benson's made out of after all this. I've actually heard a lot of good things about him lately, which is encouraging considering the questions about his character.

Sox Fall, Again, in ESPN Power Rankings
QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) but i still think that in this present moment the white sox are overrated. Since the Sox are the Sox, they want to be in a position where if we go on a tear this week they don't look like reactionary idiots. We at SoxTalk don't care if we look that way.

Sox Fall, Again, in ESPN Power Rankings
QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Power Rankings aren't based off the season, it's based on their recent performance. With that said, how in the heck are they ranked 6? I would say it's a mixture of the two, with the most emphasis placed on recent performance. But you also can't lose 20 spots or even 10 in one week as so many seem to be calling for. It's not a fair analysis.

Sox Fall, Again, in ESPN Power Rankings
Gotta get on a streak of one. They just have to think of it like getting on a streak of one every single day. Then all 1000 statisticians at SoxTalk can put all the 1 streaks together and talk about the winning streaks.

7/28/2006 White Sox v. Orioles
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) If there's anything left of "Big Game" Freddy Garcia, if that pitcher we saw last year isn't totally dead, then today's the day we'll see it. Winning a must-win game in the middle of a slump against a pitcher who's been dominant lately...that's what Garcia was good at last year. Too much weed on the off day = bad Frederick. No weed on off day/ass chewing by Oz = good Freddy

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
This team needs something to get us on the winning track. If that thing is Soriano, then so be it, sell the farm Kenny and break the bank for this guy.

Sox Fall, Again, in ESPN Power Rankings
They are with me in the feeling that you have to put some stock in the 57 wins before the all-star break, and that ring almost everyone in the dugout wears.

Floyd Landis tests positive for testosterone
The thing is - his testosterone levels were actually low. It's just that his epitestosterone levels were incredibly low, which made his T to E ratio almost 11 to 1, which some say can be explained by the cortizone shots he was taking. I honestly don't know what can lower epitestosterone, but I'm told that cortizone blocks epitestosterone production. It seems that if his testosterone levels were actually low relative to the typical man, he was at a disadvantage even though the ratio was off.

only $100 reward?!!
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 07:13 AM) I'm sure that was the guy's strategy too. Great minds think alike you know. The only difference is I would never lose something worth 20 grand in the first place.

Scientists Ok Gore's Movie for Accuracy
Has anyone caught the Manbearpig South Park episode with Al Gore? It was somewhat funny although they make it sound like he made up global warming. Really can't stand the guy tho. QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) (Yeah, that's right, I said polar bear extinction is sadder than losing NYC) How about we speed up this "global warming" stuff? It eliminates half our wildcard competition! QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Just got back from the movie. It's really good and entertaining. Al Gore is so different in this than he was in 2000 (had he been this relaxed and charming then, he would have won in a landslide). Anyway, the movie was really well done and thought provoking, I do recommend it. Who needs charm when you invented the internet?

N Sync member comes out of the closet
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Are you serious? He was dating her? Wow what a waste of a beautiful girl, she can come see me if she really wants, haha. Damn, I can't sing but I'll make her scream.

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
QUOTE(loltrain @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) I don't remember Dombrowski ever saying Sanchez wouldn't be traded, he's always been the big name brought up in all of our trade rumors. Seriously, how would we possibly aquire Soriano, Abreu, or Lee without giving him up, regardless of whether Chicago is involved? Obviously we aren't trading anyone important on the major league team or Maybin, so that leaves Sanchez as our only real big time prospect. Give them Maggs, Zumaya, Verlander, and Bonderman. Please?

Trader Ken
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) What? Are you serious? KW didn't do that, just FYI. Yes, although it's an interesting document he has there, it's not complete and has the obvious error with the Schueler Todd Ritchie trade.

No More Trades?
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) What the hell did he expect Thome, Pauly, and Jermaine to tell him? "We suck. We need more." I don't know if Big Jimmy can string that many words together.

Ozzie? Has he lost this team?
QUOTE(Damen @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) I don't know if he's lost the team, but he's lost me. Not that that's important. OH NO!

Buehrle
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) I think there are some things to be worried about: 1. His strikeout rate this season is an extremely low 4.03 K/9. That is considerably lower than any other season of his major league career. The last two seasons it was 6.05 and 5.67 respectively. 2. He has become extremely hittable. Opposing batters are hitting .306 against him. That is much, much worse than any other season in his career. The last two seasons it was .271 and .262 respecitvely. His OPS against is .828. His previous high was .738. If you're giving up a lot of hits and can't strike guys out, you're going to fail big time. This isn't just a slump, it is a horrible season. Maybe it is the huge number of innings and pitches he's thrown over the past 6 years, but he has definitely become a different pitcher this year. The numbers just confirm what we already know, he's getting hammered. What isn't apparent is exactly what the problem is, or if there are just a series of problems. Obviously location has been a problem, and poor breaking pitches.
